I wanted to see if folks had questions about this role and what it is.

The ticket didn't mention the responsibilities included like participating in Fedora Council meetings, repping Council activity back to the rest of the Committee, and travel for the annual Fedora Council Strategy Summit later in the year.

Anyways, I wanted everyone to have a chance to understand what the role is, and see if anyone else wanted to participate. I had that as an action item - and I was planning on having it ticketted by the end of this meeting.

While I do have some documented work from my end, I should be able to generalize them.

So, the general objective for this role is to be a link between Council and Mindshare. This means regular participation in both the Mindshare and Council business. The rep becomes our inside voice on the Council. It is also the duty of the representative to bring Council topics back to us and keep us informed about Council business and other things coming up there.

This responsibility can include travel for the annual Fedora Council Strategy Summit meeting, wherever it might be next year.

nice - interesting so act as a mediator between two bodies and help out to get on a decision and all. Happy to do it, if Akashdeep Dhar / আকাশদীপ ধর is ok doing something else - not a pro like Akash would love to give it a shot tho, and see how I can manage these.

Practical matters for engagement between Council and Mindshare is occasional status updates on the health of Mindshare to Council, discussing event strategy and having input on Council matters which involve outreach especially, and probably a few more things I'm forgetting.

For this specific term, I do think that we should vote. But with me working with jnsamyak and MatH on the documentation, I can rest assured that I need not stand as a representative the next time.

I disagree. If I do not have a handover plan, then this role remains extremely subjective and we would remain unable to set a baseline expectation from the Council Representative on either ends.

FWIW I do not plan on stopping that work - but it is important to discern between pillar representatives versus the folks who actually do the respective work.

We have only $2k for sponsored travel for Q3, and another for Q4. ATO flights would hit Q3, hotel would hit Q4.

I guess there are two things to consider. One, do we have an event owner otherwise who understands our process and is eligible to make a Large Events request, and two, who are those local people?

I would really like to see more people from their areas attend their events, and focus on supporting people in their regions. As it would allow us to put on more events in the long run

I agree, but for events in the Large Events category, we need an actual Ambassador to handle the responsibilities and paperwork involved for an event of that size. I can see how Perry has a lot of this lived experience, but I still want to see more local folks listed here.

All Things Open is at the Raleigh Convention Center. The Red Hat office is also in Raleigh but that's not why ATO is in Raleigh. They are a local, independent community for quite some time

When a large event gives us a free booth, that is a significant cost savings in itself. Usually this sort of thing costs thousands of dollars.
