Morning, afternoon, evening folks!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:08:07
It's a decent quorum today
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:08:16
And it's our first official meeting of this term!!
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:08:40
!hi
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
12:08:41
MatH: Mat H (theprogram)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:08:54
Looks like a full quorum minus [@lbazan:fedora.im](https://matrix.to/#/@lbazan:fedora.im). We will see if we catch him once we get going.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>

12:09:10
Yep, finally!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:09:14
Anyone have anything good?
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>

Akashdeep Dhar / আকাশদীপ ধর: Akashdeep Dhar (t0xic0der) - he / him / his
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:09:45
A couple tickets got sorted this week which is nice
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:09:52
Calm and quiet here.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:09:52
None from my side.
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:10:40
Nothing from me too atm, but blending in as we speak :D
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:10:50
!info Pagure.io is officially going away at the end of month. Mindshare Committee is all moved over, but if you have any repos still over there, this is the last call!!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:10:55
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:11:21
That's literally all I got for now.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:11:40
So, we can jump into the main agenda for today, with tickets.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:11:52
yep
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:12:38
In handling other issues and PRs yesterday, I didn't get much of a chance to prepare a thoughtful meeting agenda.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:12:53
We can do tickets, we could start with the Council rep
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:12:57
/me is looking through https://forge.fedoraproject.org/mindshare/tickets/issues
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:13:08
I seconded Akash
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:13:22
And am more than happy with him to continue.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:13:34
I would be interested one day, but not this year
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:13:38
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:13:49
This looks relatively closer - in August
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:14:26
RE FROSCON, as I understand it we have a 500$ approval at this stage?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:14:47
I am thinking #131, #130, because we need to get some of our onboarding out of the way, and then #126 and #128 are new event tickets.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:14:51
Yes
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:15:06
Yep, nothing more actionable on our side - I suppose?
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:15:20
126 = French Swag.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:15:30
Oh yes, the last item of #130, especially important.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:15:32
Let's start with these, and see how far we get.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:15:32
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:15:47
Emmanual is great, lets do what we can for him. The issue is how much other than stickers we can do
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:16:04
Roger that.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:16:08
!topic Ticket #131: "Fedora Linux 44 Cycle - Fedora Council Representative Nomination"
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:16:12
129 All thing Open. A bigger request
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:16:13
One at a time, folks :D
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:16:23
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:16:34
yes please I see a lot of parallel conversation
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:17:07
I wanted to see if folks had questions about this role and what it is.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:18:05
The ticket didn't mention the responsibilities included like participating in Fedora Council meetings, repping Council activity back to the rest of the Committee, and travel for the annual Fedora Council Strategy Summit later in the year.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:18:32
I was not party to the conversation. Is it documentd?
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:18:34
+1
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:18:51
These are all important responsibilities, and the connection between Council and Mindshare is important for the health of both bodies.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:19:05
I'm not sure either
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:19:10
Not yet - but we should definitely try offlloading a lot of these contextual information to our official documentation.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:19:33
That is pretty much what I thought
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:20:45
As we only have one nomination...
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:21:00
What are the roles required there? Can I get a bit more information for it please?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:21:03
Anyways, I wanted everyone to have a chance to understand what the role is, and see if anyone else wanted to participate. If Akashdeep is the only one to raise a hand, then it's sorted, but I might also ask [@t0xic0der:fedora.im](https://matrix.to/#/@t0xic0der:fedora.im) as a two-term Council rep now to own an action item for a role page on this role, since he will have all the experience with the role now 😀
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:21:12
Sure!
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:22:14
I had that as an action item - and I was planning on having it ticketted by the end of this meeting.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:22:14
While I do have some documented work from my end, I should be able to generalize them.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:22:33
So, the general objective for this role is to be a link between Council and Mindshare. This means regular participation in both the Mindshare and Council business. The rep becomes our inside voice on the Council. It is also the duty of the representative to bring Council topics back to us and keep us informed about Council business and other things coming up there.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:23:00
This responsibility can include travel for the annual Fedora Council Strategy Summit meeting, wherever it might be next year.
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:24:33
nice - interesting so act as a mediator between two bodies and help out to get on a decision and all. Happy to do it, if Akashdeep Dhar / আকাশদীপ ধর is ok doing something else - not a pro like Akash would love to give it a shot tho, and see how I can manage these.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:24:42
Practical matters for engagement between Council and Mindshare is occasional status updates on the health of Mindshare to Council, discussing event strategy and having input on Council matters which involve outreach especially, and probably a few more things I'm forgetting.
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:24:58
yep that sounds about right
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:25:28
maybe akash could tell more with his expereince, any pain points?
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:25:42
other than the travel :)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:25:52
OK. If you are both interested, we can figure out a path forward.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:26:28
I might have a handover plan here. It starts with the documentation, of course, but with folks following through (or shadowing on) on my actions, this term, we can shape jnsamyak to be the choice 💪
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:26:33
not to step on shoes tho so if it is alright otherwise
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:26:56
there are plenty of things
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:27:39
I think it depends whether both of you can agree on an amenable path forward, or if we should figure out a vote.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:27:43
I dont think you should add extra thing into the role
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:27:43
MatH: Don't you get me started on the travel haha. I think the focus on local communities helps both ways with efficient spending and (rather relatively) seamless travelling at the same time.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:28:32
!info @t0xic0der and @jnsamyak both express interest in the Council role
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:28:41
For this specific term, I do think that we should vote. But with me working with jnsamyak and MatH on the documentation, I can rest assured that I need not stand as a representative the next time.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:29:35
I disagree. If I do not have a handover plan, then this role remains extremely subjective and we would remain unable to set a baseline expectation from the Council Representative on either ends.
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:30:50
yeah as i said in the call before too, let's not try to have a single point of failure - that's what i have been trying to not do at releng, and kevin with infra - docs ++
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:30:54
!info Will decide asynchronously as a ticket vote for the final appointed rep; we do not have a contingency plan for when more than one person wishes to be the rep.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:31:20
So, I think we need to come back to this later, because we should spend time on the charter bits, and the other tickets too.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:31:25
I want to review the work that I have done as a Mindshare Representative to Fedora Council in the past term and also those done by other folks too, then generalise it enough for jnsamyak to pick up (or even MatH too).
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:31:44
i hope i didnt complicate it - happy to work on docs as required
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:31:57
let's gooo!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:32:22
!topic Ticket #130: "Fedora Linux 44 Cycle - Housekeeping Activities"
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:32:25
And this would take time -- I cannot get started with the documentation right away, but right now, the progressing path would be voting on the folks who put their names forward, in my honest opinion.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:32:31
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:32:44
So, there is only one more bullet left on this list, but I think it is the biggest one of all!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:32:55
This is like, the sorting hat activity of Mindshare 😀
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:33:10
All of you are familiar with the current Mindshare Committee charter?
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:33:26
No wonder, that made me have a side chat with MatH and jnsamyak, some weeks back - just on this topic ;P
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:33:32
pretty much
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:33:35
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:34:21
There are the three main parts of the "new" charter. Regional Event Support, Recognition Service, and Digital Ambassadorship.
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:34:27
yes had a chance to look at it
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:34:45
As elected Program Administrators, you are all called upon to take leadership in one of these three areas in this term.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:35:02
I am interestes in Regional Support
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:35:04
More than one Committee member can be involved in a key area, but ideally, every part of the charter has coverage.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:35:17
I am interested in Regional Support
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:35:24
Awesome! I sort of had a hunch you might 🙂
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:35:28
Digital Ambassadorship - can take
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:35:28
Anything but the Recognition Service, for me really... 😭😭😭😭
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:35:44
Look at this globetrotter, right there! 🎉
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:36:17
happy assist regional thing for apac as my campaign goal with mat later (that akash goal to i suppose 💪)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:36:18
Which one are you interested in?
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:36:26
I was hoping to swap that with Recognition Service with you.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:36:49
Having worked on Recognition Service, this last long term - I could use a change in scene too.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:37:04
You are our Fedora Badges guy, though 😄
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:37:14
But remember, more than one person can work on a given area
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:37:18
And we also have [@lbazan:fedora.im](https://matrix.to/#/@lbazan:fedora.im)
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:37:43
Plus given that I have leaned on the YouTube side too, since the last few weeks - I reckoned that it just makes sense to help represent that too.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:37:49
we can certainly work together on it
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:37:52
exactly your fortee
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:38:11
hehe
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:38:21
FWIW I do not plan on stopping that work - but it is important to discern between pillar representatives versus the folks who actually do the respective work.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:39:08
MatH being the regional event support person doesn't infer that others cannot help and so goes for the Recognition Service and Digital Ambassadorship sides too - Join in whenever interested.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:39:09
Is Luis Bazan in Europe or South America?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:39:10
So, I was wondering if folks might have any questions, but I guess you all have been expecting this conversation already and had some pre-existing interests already.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:39:14
LATAM.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:39:27
!localtime [@lbazan:fedora.im](https://matrix.to/#/@lbazan:fedora.im)
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
12:39:28
The current local time of "lbazan" is: "07:39" (timezone: America/Panama)
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:40:03
thanks to akash we had time to meet earlier post flock
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:40:12
You really need to treat me to a fancy dinner sometime. I had both MatH and jnsamyak prepped for this conversation exactly right after I came back from Flock but wasn't officially back to the desk 🤣
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:40:25
…do folks have any questions about the charter areas? Or do we feel content to assign areas and move on? These roles all come with some responsibilities, and you will have a lot of independence to advance, or not, on your part of the charter.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:41:21
I am happy with that for now, we can move on
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:41:25
Working with enthusiastic folks like yourselves is and always will be a pleasure!
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:41:25
No, thank YOU and MatH for agreeing to my set schedule that I had to convey over WhatsApp (of all the places, I know, I know...)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:41:54
To be clear, you all are owners of the charter area you choose, so the effort will be on each of you to make sure we track goals and make progress on the focus areas in this term.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:42:13
OK. Then I can document the decision and we move on to the next ticket.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:42:48
We will circle back with [@lbazan:fedora.im](https://matrix.to/#/@lbazan:fedora.im) to see what he wants to take, hopefully we can persuade him for Recognition Service, or we leave that part of the charter unfilled this term.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:43:06
Alternatively, FCA can also be a free agent for a given focus area if it's light
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:43:42
jnsamyak: no interest in the recognition service? Come on, I will show you the ropes -- along with those for the Council Representation too. Just say the word!
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:43:57
okay if you insist that much :D
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:43:58
!info @theprogram interested in Regional Event Support. @jnsamyak and @t0xic0der interested in Digital Ambassadorship. No hands yet for Recognition Service.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:44:21
!action @lbazan Follow up on Mindshare Committee chat and/or ticket to make your selection.
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:44:35
already stepping shoes with council rep ;) Justin Wheeler send recognition service on my way
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:44:40
Aha, THANK you!
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:44:40
Justin Wheeler: Wanna undo the `!info`?
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:44:41
I am certainly willing and would enjoy talking about other areas such as Recognition, but I cant take on any more officially at this stage
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:44:51
not to fill anyone shoes, but will try to do as much as I could.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:45:16
!action @jflory7 Close #130, update owners for each focus area of the charter in a follow-up Docs PR
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:45:31
What we need first is a structure before we can be homefree with the assignments.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:45:31
Not at all bud - Or at least, I do not see it that way. More help is always good.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:45:47
Sure, we can swap it around, but don't forget that me and Luis are also unassigned too :)
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:46:30
yes thanks
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:46:44
Me neither. It is for the best to limit the focuses of the pillar representatives so that we get the best work on each sides.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:46:44
Being spread across too much can only lead to worse outcomes - both in the work output and personal capacity
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:46:55
!info PSYCHE – @jnsamyak will take Recognition Service since @t0xic0der wants to take a break from last term
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:47:15
OK, I think that's all we need to cover for now.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:47:34
I'd expect y'all to have questions or asks for feedback from the Committee as you process what you have just signed up for :D
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:47:46
I think we should look at 128 All Things Open
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:47:58
I'll wait for [@lbazan:fedora.im](https://matrix.to/#/@lbazan:fedora.im) to make a selection, and then I'll put myself wherever there is least coverage
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:48:04
Sure, let's do it
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:48:09
Also, time czech ;P - Last 12 minutes left

<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:48:36

<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:48:40

12:49:07
See Justin Wheeler? We're one enthusiastic bunch!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:49:09
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:49:23
we should make a meeting agenda somewhere ( a lil structure would help, a generic one thi)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:49:44
See, if you don't change `!topic` first, then it gets bunched up into the previous topic summary and confuses the AurélienBot 😄
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:49:48
we should make a meeting agenda somewhere ( a lil structure would help, a generic one tho for future so anyone can run the meeting as host)
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:49:51
Basically it is one good regular person asking for a rather Ideally, but we are doing okay for the first of the year
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:50:04
Basically it is one good regular person asking for a rather large amount of dough
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:50:07
hehe
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:50:07
We have used issue labels and project boards, but never consistently, but we can discuss this async
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:50:29
i do it with releng but yeah later topic, let's get to ticket
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:50:33
Yeah, I'm wondering if Perry was focused on getting the proposal made first, but we need to rally more folks here.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:50:40
jnsamyak, MatH: Seriously - no harm done ;P It is rather refreshing to see folks jump into action than have the activity "pried" up from them and have them contribute "reactively"
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:50:43
I know he was asking me for names of anyone I knew in the area
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
12:50:47
We have only $2k for sponsored travel for Q3, and another for Q4. ATO flights would hit Q3, hotel would hit Q4.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:51:28
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:51:30
This ask is very heavy on flights, hotel and taxis
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
12:51:32
We will probably have really good coverage on ATO already with people already in US east
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:52:08
++
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:52:19
I guess there are two things to consider. One, do we have an event owner otherwise who understands our process and is eligible to make a Large Events request, and two, who are those local people?
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:52:26
I would really like to see more people from their areas attend their events, and focus on supporting people in their regions. As it would allow us to put on more events in the long run
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:52:27
also i see perry is also happy to co-organise remotely as mentioned
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:52:46
I'd like for the event owner here to come back and help do the rally call for participation and engagement
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:53:16
shaunm: Can we ask them to connect on this Discussion thread? This should help coalesce the efforts in organizing the community presence over there at ATO.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:53:23
<@jnsamyak:matrix.org>
12:53:31
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/All_Things_Open_2026_Event#Fedora_presence - I see only two folks here.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:53:36
I agree, but for events in the Large Events category, we need an actual Ambassador to handle the responsibilities and paperwork involved for an event of that size. I can see how Perry has a lot of this lived experience, but I still want to see more local folks listed here.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:53:36
As it is in Raleigh-Durham, NC USA, that is near Red Hat offices, right?
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
12:53:40
The ATO organizers reached out to me and Jef about having a presence again this year. Just because I organized it last year, and Jef staffed it.
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
12:54:06
yes, easy walking distance from RH tower
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:54:09
In Perry's favour, he did one of the best ever event reports I have sen for his last event
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:54:17
In Perry's favour, he did one of the best ever event reports I have seen for his last event
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:54:24
All Things Open is at the Raleigh Convention Center. The Red Hat office is also in Raleigh but that's not why ATO is in Raleigh. They are a local, independent community for quite some time
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:54:44
Yes, he always writes spectacular event reports reliably
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:55:04
This feels like a great opportunity if they will give it to us!
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
12:55:24
Absolutely not a knock on Perry. I'll take him as an event owner any day. I'm just trying to be conscious of travel expenses.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:55:31
When a large event gives us a free booth, that is a significant cost savings in itself. Usually this sort of thing costs thousands of dollars.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:55:37
Same here
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:55:38
For sure, we have to be with the budget available
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:56:02
So, anyways, it seems like we all agree that we want to see more locals here.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:56:35
We probably need to get this link solicited around a bit more
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:57:08
I propose we make this ask to Perry on the ticket, and see if he can do outreach on mailing lists and Ambassadors channels too
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:57:18
I'll have to think if we can find some other places to reach into as well
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:57:55
!agreed The Mindshare Committee was looking to see a larger event presence defined before we are asked to vote on a budget. Currently, this Large Event only has two people identified as attending.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:58:10
!halp More time and help is needed to do outreach and identify more locals to attend.
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:58:48
Note that the proposed budget is for one person, and a second would increase it a lot
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:58:52
[@theprogram:fedora.im](https://matrix.to/#/@theprogram:fedora.im): Since you are being our Regional Events lead, could I tag you for a ticket comment update there, or want me to do it?
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:59:05
I can do that now
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
12:59:10
Awesome!
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
12:59:21
Unless they are a stone-throw distance away local person
<@theprogram:fedora.im>
12:59:40
The other proposed person is Alex from Mexico
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
13:00:33
!action @theprogram Follow up on Ticket #128 to request more engagement from local attendees and for additional outreach to find more local attendees
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
13:00:58
Yes, Alex is also a long-time Ambassador with a lot of experience, but we need to balance travel cost with impact
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
13:01:08
OK, we are at the end of the hour 😅
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
13:01:13
Three of four tickets isn't bad!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
13:01:19
And we had some onboarding to do too
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
13:01:40
With that, I am going to yield us back on time. Thanks everyone for making it out and being here, even if on short notice!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
13:01:50
See y'all around the Fedora-verse 😄
