next week is questionable for me, it's the last day of the school term...

15:08:30
I am going to out next thursday (and next friday is a us holiday) and the following monday. ;)

<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:19:58
so, for open alerts, it's all just disk warnings atm i think
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:20:18
I think hopefully I solved (for now) those apache alerts.
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:20:23
ooh
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:20:24
nice
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
15:20:32
gwmngilfen has already given cookies to kevin during the F44 timeframe
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:20:50
i will hope to see them much lower in the top100 next week then π
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:21:32
Yeah, as far as I can tell it was hitting the max workers... and then just queuing requests until it went under the limit. I raised the limit and it seems to have helped.
<@zlopez:fedora.im>
15:21:43
I caused some alerts on staging today as I'm playing with moving IPA to RHEL10
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:21:53
np, thats why staging gets its own room
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:22:36
i've been testing some CI monitoring with Cristian Le but I don't know if we should go that way. maybe a topic for open floor, though
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:22:54
(the limit was 4k, I upped it to 6k). You can see when.
<@james:fedora.im>
15:23:01
Living in clip ;)
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:23:07
data ftw
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:23:39
i dont see much else on the top100 that isn't explainable
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:23:56
i added zabbix_agent to a bunch more hosts this week, so there was some cleanup from that
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:24:05
and i still need to do the secure hosts
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:25:26
i had a chat about how to add templates for openshift apps with @amedvedev this morning too, I have a plan for where that goes in ansible
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:25:40
(zabbix templates that is)
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:25:45
cool.
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:25:58
and next week is the great nagios / collectd cleanup I guess?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:26:20
i'll start it, certainly
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:26:37
hopefully it won't take too long, just a lot of "state:absent" and running playbooks
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:26:45
yep.
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:27:02
I guess we can retire noc02 probibly too then, I think it only has nagios on it.
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:27:19
but noc01 still does have many other things.
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:27:34
maybe. i do want to put "something" outside of rdu3 that can alert us if it thinks we're suddenly living in a buble
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:27:36
maybe. i do want to put "something" outside of rdu3 that can alert us if it thinks we're suddenly living in a bubble
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:27:45
but it can be a cron script, it doesn't need a ui
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:28:04
could go on any of our sponsored hosts I guess
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:28:30
i *think* we'd notice, but it's good depth
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:29:08
after that, on lower prio, is dashboards, service levels, and some smarter checks
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:29:50
monitoring fin, I think?

15:47:07
Let's switch to open floor then
<@zlopez:fedora.im>
15:47:18
!topic Open Floor
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:47:23
ok, so first, on monitoring
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:47:44
i've been working with Cristian Le on some Jenkins monitoring... which is nice but it targets hosts we don't control
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:48:04
that means (a) we can't help if there is an issue, and (b) there's nowhere really to put it in Ansible
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:48:37
I *think* that reduces us to basically being a conduit for Matrix notifications, and I don't know if thats something infra should offer? or offer some other way?
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:49:02
yeah, I wonder if they shouldn't have their own monitoring for that? which they can manage as they like?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:49:04
i'm curious what folks think the edges of our monitoring look like
<@james:fedora.im>
15:49:07
I think it's fine, if it goes to a channel for people who can do things?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:49:24
ok, but where do we represent that in ansible?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:50:13
right now we're putting templates in roles and then lettings hosts declare themselves and add themselves to templates. That doesn't work if there's no role and no host, we'd have to write something new?
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:50:51
I guess it would have to be on the zabbix server itself?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:51:18
well, a role there yes. you could declare a "fake" zabbix host to hold the data in the ui, but the server would have to run the role
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:51:19
or we would need to make a zabbix-other-checks01 vm and run them there?
<@james:fedora.im>
15:51:22
Yeh, if it's a lot of work for you then it seems fine to say it won't work. But creating a zabbix instance is a bunch of work too, so if it was easy to add stuff for people then it seems good to do so.
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
15:51:39
yeah, I'd agree with that...
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:51:43
i don't think we need a vm. this is http-endoint stuff
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:51:57
which, to be fair, we'll be doing for ocp apps too
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:52:29
but they *do* get a role in ansible, so it's less ... intrusive? not quite the right word, but you get my drift
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:52:57
ok, seems like we're ok with it if we can make it tidy? I'll think on it
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:53:43
any other thoughts on this one?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:54:26
ok, so quickly then
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:54:54
the pdr thing - whats the requirement? people need to open a ticket, and then other people have to discuss it privately?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:55:15
as in, the originator can't see it? or only those involved can see it?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:56:07
i'm asking because this is essentially how Discourse do their support - private categories that you can interact with either through discourse, or via an email address
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:56:32
the former won't work, you have to be in the group, and that won't work for pdr. but an email target, from your fas adress?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:56:37
would that work?
<@zlopez:fedora.im>
15:57:32
Right now the users create private ticket in pagure repository and then we process it and close it once that is done
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:57:47
the flow i'm thinking of is:
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:57:47
- the creator, plus those with access to the category, can see it
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:57:47
- that creates a topic in a private repo
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:57:47
- send a mail from your fas address to "pdr@whatever.fpo"
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:58:06
i would have to test it, but it might be enough?
<@zlopez:fedora.im>
15:58:34
Not everybody has fas alias from what I remember
<@james:fedora.im>
15:58:43
Really?
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:59:01
there might be other discourse workflows too. perhaps a form in one category that posts to another or something
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:59:12
it feels .... almost in grasp
<@zlopez:fedora.im>
15:59:13
Only people who are in group that is in fedora_contributor metagroup
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
15:59:41
i don't mean you email from an fpo address, just that you mail from the email account in your profile
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
16:00:12
anyway, we are at the hour. maybe i should post the idea to the ticket?
<@james:fedora.im>
16:00:25
Sure
<@zlopez:fedora.im>
16:00:41
That could work, but we want them to login through FAS to verify them, otherwise they could just sent e-mail to admin@fedoraproject.org
<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
16:00:57
hmm true
<@zlopez:fedora.im>
16:01:01

<@gwmngilfen:fedora.im>
