I'll post the agenda in 2-3 minutes.

<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:00:40
As usual, let's wait a moment for everybody to show up.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:00:40
Welcome to our weekly Server WG meeting.
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:00:40
!hi
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
18:00:41
Jocelyn Gould (korora) - she / her / hers
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:01:22
Hi Jocelyn!
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:01:34
Very active again.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:03:25
!hello
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
18:03:26
Emmanuel Seyman (eseyman) - he / him / his
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:03:38
For the record, I’m on mobile and might have typos. LOL (or be slow to respond.)
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:04:40
Yeah, these mobiles are not the ideal devices for typing. But I get the typos also done on my bog laptop keyboard. :-)
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:06:00
OK, we are 3 members, so we have our quorum and can start (until I re-read our governance paper more closely I thought we would need more than 3)

<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:07:03
Obviously not. Let's start
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:07:14
!topic 1. Follow-up actions & announcements
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:07:48
Regarding the actions, please look at https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/server-working-group/wg-minutes-2026/
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:08:11
There is nothing overwhelmingly new. Just current business.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:08:51
I have nothing to announce at the moment. The decision about the CfPs for Flock is running. So we have to wait.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:09:03
!hello
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
18:09:05
Steve Daley (mowest)
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:09:18
Hi mowest!
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:09:40
Hi, Steve
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:09:49
Anyone else with an announcement to make?
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:09:59
Hey Steve!
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:10:19
Hello, was late because I was reading Peter Boy (ServerWG, Docs): email 😁
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:10:44
Peter Boy (ServerWG, Docs): what do you call 'topics' in our repository?
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:10:47
No announcement from me
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:11:43
> what do you call 'topics' in our repository?
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:11:43
I think that's part of the next agenda topic here, isn't it?
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:11:43
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:12:08
Not sure. Let's see
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:12:20
OK, lets proceed
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:12:41
!topic 2. Reviewing our governance rules
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:12:52
Tracking ticket: https://forge.fedoraproject.org/server/tickets/issues/183
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:13:10
We should only discuss this today and make decisions later, probably next meeting.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:13:39
I made a more detailed draft proposal as a comment further down
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:14:05
I have a few nitpicks but, overall, I like the most recent proposal a lot
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:14:35
I have no feedback on the draft proposal, but am willing to listen to Emmanuel’s input
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:15:07
Emmanuel Seyman: Is your question regarding "what do you call 'topics' in our repository" referring to the proposal?
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:16:33
No, in the minutes you pointed to, you mention you haven't "created the topics in our repo" and I'm not sure what that refers to
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:17:15
Oh, i meant issues, project and milestones.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:17:26
I read the emailed draft proposal which I liked. I wondered if there is a way to send a reminder at 2 years of inactivity to see if that spurs re-engagement. I work with volunteers and often reaching out and touching base is helpful to find out if a project pain point has them stuck or discouraged or if their life circumstances now prevent them from volunteering.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:17:28
re the proposal, I'm torn between bringing people in asap and waiting to see if they're going to commit long-term
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:17:30
But I've done that today-
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:18:49
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:18:49
I'm too. I tried to re3solve that by "This is usually preceded by a (substantial) contribution".
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:18:49
> what do you call 'topics' in our repository
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:19:02
In the "Membership" section, I would remind people that you do not need to be a member of the WG to contribute
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:19:13
Wrong citate"
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:19:17
I think this would have to be done manually. (But I don’t know for sure)
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:19:45
Wrong citate"
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:19:45
I mean I'm torn between ....
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:19:55
I suspect a reminder will be more effective if it comes from a human
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:20:29
Agreed. So someone would have to keep track of this.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:21:13
Yes a human touch point is what I was thinking. At our meeting someone is designated to reach out to in active volunteer near the two year time frame.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:21:42
I think, we remind everyone with a corresponding topic on the Agenda for the meeting.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:22:35
If we could automate the tracking that would be nice like a bot to tell us last time they posted in Matrix, or on the git forge or on the mailing list.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:22:55
I used to mail to inactive people previously. Often it was not exactly a plesant task, And in most cases I got not even a short answer.
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:23:11
I’m walking into the doctors office. I’ll check my phone here in a few. I do have info for the F44 release portion of the meeting.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:23:48
Jocelyn (she/her) (Server WG: Docs): gook luck we are checking if you are available again
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:26:23
Yes reaching out to inactive volunteers is often thankless but it can give peace of mind that we tried to keep a member active, I would say reaching out once is sufficient they can always come back later after dropped and we can accept them back on the team.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:26:27
a) sending reminder to inactive members
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:26:27
right?
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:26:27
b) better detail our expectation that someone should give us some confidence that their contributions are long term.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:26:27
We have 2 items to handle:
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:26:52
Yes good summary
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:26:59
indeed
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:27:13
I agree
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:27:36
B) is tough because they often don't know what contributions they can make at the beginning.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:28:21
So, should we discuss proper additions to the draft on Matrix and let's prodeed here for now? And decide next meeting?
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:29:10
I wish I could attend ever Flock and present a session in service to Fedora Server, but that isn't realistic with the travel and expenses often involved not to mention time off of work.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:29:23
I wish I could attend every Flock and present a session in service to Fedora Server, but that isn't realistic with the travel and expenses often involved not to mention time off of work.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:29:42
re b), I think we should, when inviting people to the WG, remind them that this is a long-term commitment
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:30:07
Things should self-police relatively well
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:30:45
Peter Boy (ServerWG, Docs): and Emmanuel Seyman: agreed
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:02
OK, let's proceed for now. We are already half way through our time.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:11
!topic 3. Change of our meeting routine
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:19
No tracking ticket yet
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:31:24
FTR, I have a meeting just after this one
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:41
OK, let's hurry!
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:49
- One moderator for each topic, so that not everything falls to one person.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:49
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:49
- End a discussion / topic with a wrap up, and in possible with a !agreed or !action statement.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:49
We should adapt our meeting routine:
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:49
- If possible, one ticket for each topic
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:31:49
- On Friday or Monday a list of topics in our matrix room
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:32:30
So going an hour later is not helpful and going an hour earlier would hit high noon on East Coast when people will be off devices eating and socializing hopefully
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:32:48
Please please *PLEASE* let's give everyone in the meeting chair capabilities
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:32:59
This looks good
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:33:15
mowest: Yeah, so we should let the time as it is now.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:33:45
I can handle our meetings being an hour later but not them being an hour earlier
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:34:13
This seems good, I like the one moderator per topic is chair for topic sounds good
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:34:19
I could handle either an hour earlier or an hour later
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:34:40
Emmanuel Seyman: As Justin told me, in Matrix there is no concept of chair. But let's try:
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:35:18
!chair mowest @pboPeter Boy (ServerWG, Docs) Emmanuel Seyman Jocelyn (she/her) (Server WG: Docs)
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:35:29
Sorry I brought up time was typing before I saw meeting notes, time seems best possible
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:35:58
There is no reaction from zopbot
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:36:25
!action eseyman do something about a given subject
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:36:32
So everyone can do any of the tasks (!action. !agreed, ...)
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:36:39
Sweet $ENTITY...
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:37:07
When I thought of chair I just meant guided the topic discussion
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:37:20
I have been holding back since we moved to Matrix for no reason at all?
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:37:39
seems so. 😀
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:37:49
Well, there's good to know
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:37:54
Great if we can all do those actions we can guide our respective topics
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:37:55
I didn't know that either until 3 days ago.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:38:51
mowest: Yes, that's part of the proposal. That we pass the moderator to a member how is dealing most with the topic.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:39:32
!agreed
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:39:48
😁
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:40:16
proposal. !agreed We share the moderator task between members. Details to be determined in a meeting guide (to be written).
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:40:34
+1
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:40:50
+1
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:41:11
!agreed We will share the moderator task between members. Details to be determined in a meeting guide (to be written).
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:42:01
How will write a proposal for the meeting guide? (in a ticket as we have for governance)
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:42:20
I can do that but .....
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:42:48
We have a general Fedora meeting guide. We can take that and adjust it.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:43:27
proposed !action pboy will create a ticket with a draft meeting guide.
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:43:37
Sounds like the most efflcient approach to me
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:44:20
Just curious if it could just be a sub point of the "meeting" section in the governance guide draft.
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
18:44:52
!hi
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
18:44:53
Paul Maconi (aggraxis) - he / him / his
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:44:56
May, but let's separate them at the moment. it's complex enough
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
18:45:01
sorry for the lateness. work and all that.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:45:02
One doc that guides all the work of the WG
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:45:46
Problem is: "Governance" is a rule book, to be agreed with by FESCo. Meeting is a procedure thing.
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:45:48
mowest: one doc to rule them all!
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:46:51
Oh I see I didn't realize that governance needed to be approved by FESCo
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:47:15
OK, I think I take the action and we can proceed.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:48:00
!action. pboy will create a ticket with a meeting guide draft proposal.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:48:15
!action pboy will create a ticket with a meeting guide draft proposal.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:48:55
Well Meet Bot needs its time
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:49:06
!topic 4. Testing release F44 branched
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:49:14
No tracking ticket yet
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:49:43
Jocelyn (she/her) (Server WG: Docs): your part according to our new rules. 😀
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:53:39
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:53:39
I have not been able to test the aarch image yet.
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:53:39
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:53:39
I’ve tested it a few times now and the result is the same. We have a working qcow image now.
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:53:39
So I pulled the F44 qcow image and ran though initial setup, after that I was able to log in.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:54:10
Very good that the KVM image works.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:54:33
Unfortunately, I was complete busy today.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:55:03
What are the next steps to do?
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:55:19
We should make sure we will fill in the test table!
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
18:55:22
We're at beta freeze, right?
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
18:55:37
We should see the first beta candidate compose soon.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:55:40
I'm not sure, we just branched.
<@korora:fedora.im>
18:55:55
We have a table? Where is it
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:55:58
I have the schedule not in my head.
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
18:56:25
yeah, yesterday was beta freeze day
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:56:39
Re: Test table. There is a list, when a new testing release it available.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:57:28
> , yesterday was beta freeze day
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:57:28
oh, we are late (again)
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
18:58:10
The beta go/no go is the first week of March, but I bet they'll want us testing nightlies
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:58:48
Proposal: Joselyn and I prepare a ticket how to proceed with the testing.
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
18:59:12
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_44_Rawhide_20260127.n.0_Summary this is the current summary from the wiki. It's a wee bit stale?

<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:59:30

<@pboy:fedora.im>
19:00:15
Don't we have a beta candidate yet?
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
19:00:17
I think we'll see that update soon is really more my point. I will get my test environment prepped for the next compose
<@korora:fedora.im>
19:00:21
I’ll hunt down the tables for
<@aggraxis:fedora.im>
19:00:24
No not yet. I think we'll have one soon.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
