15:08:18
The ticket is done; Peter has a writeup for next steps
<@pboy:fedora.im>
15:08:29
As I understood, we should provide some information, what we are doing with the docs -initiative.
<@pbokoc:fedora.im>
15:08:37
Oh, hang on actually
<@ffmancera:fedora.im>
15:08:58
If I remember correctly, after the initiative is approved a new ticket must be created to onboard the new council members (and updating the council docs) :)
<@jonatoni:fedora.im>
15:09:01
we need to update the Docs with the new initiative information
<@jonatoni:fedora.im>
15:09:13
if that's done as well, we can close the ticket

<@pbokoc:fedora.im>
15:10:59
Speaking of which, there are also tickets open to add Jef's and Miro's :) https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/council-docs/issues

15:11:39
Who usually merges those?
<@ffmancera:fedora.im>
15:12:06
Aoife or Justin probably
<@jonatoni:fedora.im>
15:13:44
we don't have a pull request yet actually 😄 with the changes
<@jspaleta:fedora.im>
15:13:46
I'm going to claim im leaving my bio ticket open to ensure we can test ticket migration to forgejo with low risk
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
15:13:53
I gave myself an todo to poke Justin about these when he's back.
<@jonatoni:fedora.im>
15:14:07
anyone in Council can merge
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
15:14:45

👋
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:17:33
(though I don't know I can answer questions like how to make the best cup of coffee)
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
15:17:52
I don't think a vote can happen here today, but voting can happen on the ticket, I believe.
<@jspaleta:fedora.im>
15:18:02
I'm standing up as exectuive sponsor and I've been syncing with nimbinatus on the pre-work leading to the proposal.
<@jspaleta:fedora.im>
15:20:12
I think this is a solid continuation along the bootc integration path. And nimbinatus is coordinating with the technical stakeholders already. I think there's buyin from the stakeholders like the Atomic desktops and CoreOS and now its just a matter of identifying obstacles and knocking them down so f44 and f45 have solid steps towards the bootc integration.
<@jspaleta:fedora.im>
15:21:34
so having nimbinatus on council will help make sure we're in a position to deal with any thing that comes up that represents an obstacle that council needs to nudge or act on.

15:26:55
I am a bit concerned that we bundle Image Mode with Konflux in this initiative
<@bookwar:fedora.im>
15:27:47
I am not against using Konflux for Image Mode initiative, I am just not sure that it is worth declaring Konflux deliverables in it, as they are implementation details, not the goal on their own in this case
<@bookwar:fedora.im>
15:28:34
(yes, I should have this comment in the discussion thread :) )
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:30:24
My main thought is this is an ideal spot to work through any issues with using Konflux in production processes, and CoreOS is already working toward getting it up. By making a documented pipeline a goal, we ensure that the resulting artifacts are using a production pipeline that's owned by a team (so it doesn't die on the vine once the initiative concludes) and the process for other parts of Fedora onboarding to Konflux is well trod, making Fedora more resilient as the project explores moving pipeline tooling in the future.
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:31:21
My understanding from the various engineers working on the Atomic Desktops and CoreOS is that Konflux is the best path forward, so they do need it for delivering OCI artifacts with bootc toolchains.
<@ffmancera:fedora.im>
15:31:53
But I believe that integrating Konflux in Fedora is not something that has been agreed yet, or am I wrong?
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:33:25
The CoreOS team has been using it, so it is being integrated currently in at least part of the project. I don't believe a decision about a specific future state has been decided, but I do think that, in general, documenting paths for changing CI/CD systems would be worthwhile. (Jef might correct me here, though.)
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:33:39
(since he's typing, and I'm just faster :p )
<@bookwar:fedora.im>
15:33:46
It is a good opportunity for Konflux to prove itself, yes, but the goal of the initiative is the Image Mode, not the Konflux. We may reach the point when we will have to choose between those two interests, and clear initive definition will help us make correct choices
<@bookwar:fedora.im>
15:33:55
It is setting the priorities
<@jspaleta:fedora.im>
15:34:08
There's konflux instance running under fedoraproject.org namespace. Its producing some outputs. The bootc based outputs feel it solves a problem for them and its available for them to attempt to use.
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:35:18
Hm. Fair. Yes, the goal is the OCI artifacts being first-class citizens for Fedora. My understanding is that Konflux is the tool that achieves that goal with the direction the various members of the current initiative have identified over the course of the past year.
<@bookwar:fedora.im>
15:35:19
It is a good opportunity for Konflux to prove itself, yes, but the goal of the initiative is the Image Mode, not the Konflux. We may reach the point when we will have to choose between those two interests, and clear initiative definition will help us make correct choices
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:36:08
I'd argue that, as worded, the success criteria indicates that a fully supported production pipeline is the need. The expectation is Konflux, but expectations can change.
<@bookwar:fedora.im>
15:38:51
I guess removing the Konflux from "A sustainable, documented Konflux pipeline for generating OCI artifacts" sentence will be good enough for me
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
15:38:51
Should we move on?
<@bookwar:fedora.im>
15:39:09
"A collection of feature requests, bug reports, and experimental results for upstream bootc and Konflux." may stay the same
