10:13:09
Aoife Moloney: I'll check with you, anything to cover here, or onto tickets?
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:13:38
i think the council rep was raised last time with the next meeting when the committee would decide
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:13:49
so we could jump to that ticket if you want?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:13:49
I put that ticket on for discussion today πŸ™‚

<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:15:22
Any thoughts on the order?
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:15:25
Sounds good
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:15:28
I guess in numerical order makes sense?
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:16:18
Slight preference to recent tickets, first maybe?
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:16:18

<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:16:19
sounds fine to me, I just have one item for the end of the meeting for the committee rgarding the elections
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>

sounds fine to me as well. as long as we can get 'em done.

!info This is an overdue action to select our representative to the Fedora Council. The nomination period closed on Sept 3. Our goal is to hold a formal vote or confirm the nominated representative for the 12-month term.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:18:41
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>
10:18:52
that reminds me , my phone died and it has the GL 2FA code gen :(
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:18:58
So far, I just see Akashdeep Dhar as self-selected nominee.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:19:05
I am curious if anyone else is interested in this.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:19:26
I also have a slight preference for trying to open up opportunities for folks who have not been on Council to serve, and maybe bring a perspective we have not had on Council in a long time
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:19:59
I am thinking Marketing with Joseph Gayoso, Design with Emma Kidney, or even Gwmngilfen on Infra (although we definitely have some Infra perspectives on Council today).
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:20:05
But I don't want to put anyone on the spot.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:20:09
And it is a big commitment too.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:20:33
Are there any questions about this?
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:20:47
None from my end
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:21:14
Luis Bazan also is doing a lot in LATAM community building too, and we honestly have little to no visibility in LATAM at the Council since maybe a decade? But I am thinking aloud here
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:21:28
But the deadline is way past, and we need to get in gear on this too.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:22:02
Could we make a rally call for nominations to conclude in one week, and then have votes filed by the next meeting? So, ideally, we make the vote official in the next meeting.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:22:08
Any interested parties would have conveyed their interests by now is what I think.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:22:08
FWIW the nominations have been open for over a month at this point.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:22:14
I am not sure how much this role was discussed before in previous meetings.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:23:20
<@lbazan:fedora.im>
10:23:44
here
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:23:53
It wasnt discussed at all, but Im not sure what could have been said really. One personal note - whoever takes part in the council, I would prefer to see them engaged and active. So the time commitment would be the main requirement for me for this rep
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:23:53
I can concur with this, though. I am a bit ignorant because I was gone for two months. If there are no other takers, then let's just get this done.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:24:05
Agreed
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:24:12
Hey Luis Bazan!
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:24:20
Since then, we did not have any meetings so... 🀷
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:24:20
It already has been opened for a couple of weeks, about a month back.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:24:30
OK, since this has been open for many months, let's just make some votes in the ticket!
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:25:11
Im +1 to Akash, he put himself forward
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:25:25
Can I action you all to pls vote in the ticket so it is logged?
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:25:27

10:26:49
Akashdeep Dhar: We can discuss the onboarding steps as a new Council member outside of this meeting. But as a past Council member, this won't be anything new for you!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:26:58
Let's get to the more interesting and thoughtful topics for today
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:27:05
Roger.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:27:09
!topic Ticket #80: Committee Member Role Definition and Onboarding
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:27:18
!info This ticket is about clarifying our own roles. The discussion has highlighted an urgent need to define what a "Digital Ambassador" is and to set a realistic, initial scope for that program, considering team capacity. Our goal is to agree on a working definition and a "v1.0" set of initial goals.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:27:30
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:27:42
Oops, I need to go AFK for 3-4 mins

10:27:44
Be right back.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:27:51
Please take a look and read through the ticket!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:29:34
A quick preview of the ticket
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:29:50
I think Emma Kidney raised a good point
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:29:57
About Digital Ambassadors being confusing
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:30:08
Sumantro Mukherjee: Could you jump in here? This was your brain child :)
<@ekidney:matrix.org>
10:30:38
I like Josephs answer! Cleared it up for me anyway πŸ™‚
<@ekidney:matrix.org>
10:30:52
If that was the original intention that is
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:31:05
Oops I didn't get that far yet
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:31:10
I should read it all heheh
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:31:15
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:32:33
Ah, I see it
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:32:36
Hmm
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:32:56
But Joseph also mentions some things about in-person activities and how that merges with digital ambassadorships
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:33:07
It feels confusing to me with the traditional role of Ambassadors, and how this all overlaps
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:34:05
On one hand, I like the idea of "decentralizing" the work of the Marketing Team through people's own brands and platforms
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:34:21
Like, anyone can make social media posts and create content Fedora, even if it is not on our official channels
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:34:26
It would be nice to have guidance for that
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:34:41
When it came to the "digital ambassadorship", I kinda thought more in the context of the activity on the platforms like Discourse, Matrix etc. that are in a way internal to the Fedora Project community
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:34:49
Reading through the rest of the charter, thoughβ€”
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:35:04
<@lbazan:fedora.im>
10:35:10
The digital ambassador is also likely based in a specific country and probably attends physical events only within their country or state, and not beyond that. maybe…
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:35:21
I'm not hearing anyone say that Regional Events and Recognition Support as difficult to understand
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:35:40
Activity of the Fedora Mindshare committee folks among, say, various subprojects or SIGs, while not being a part of them could help the governing bodies understand the health of these teams and just what they need to grow.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:35:49
Mmm, from my conversations with Sumantro Mukherjee, the vision for this pillar was external
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:36:02
I think CommOps has more of the internal focus than Mindshare should
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:36:12
Well, here is an idea.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:36:17
There are lots of ideas on the table
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:36:25
And no one person can fulfill this whole charter
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:36:32
The elected roles are as administrator roles
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:36:41
So, I think we need an "owner" for each part of the charter
<@emma:rory.gay>
10:36:43
i wonder how this pinged me
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:36:49
It would also end up creating a roadblock based on the availability of budgets (or lack thereof).
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:36:49
Umm... but how's that "Digital"? πŸ€”
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:36:56
Someone who takes the lead on each pillar of the Fedora Mindshare Committee charter
<@ekidney:matrix.org>
10:37:05
maybe they could be merged? Start as a digital ambassador and then you could progress to just an ambassador? or just have them be a subset of the other
<@emma:rory.gay>
10:37:05
oh, i checked source on that message, now it makes sense
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:37:19
Unfortunately, this is correct. The Regional Event Support pillar is more relevant for the in-person activities
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:37:59
I like this ambition. The challenge with onboarding Ambassadors for in-person events and the like, is that it takes a lot of knowledge of Fedora to be a guide and rep of the community. Bridging from digital to in-person would be easier
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:38:17
The overlaps could hence cause the confusion in what actually needs to be done.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:38:17
The likelihood of merges and clashes is likely with either Fedora Marketing (for the external focus) or Fedora Commops (for the internal focus).
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:38:18
A friendly reminder, dont let a beautiful dream get in the way of a good, functioning group :) If role definitions need to change to reflect a reality, I would say do it! The reviews were actioned so that current members can give real feedback on how these roles are structured vs how they'd be achieved by members
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:39:10
Hmm. I don't see this in our charter. It was very much a part of the vision for the old Mindshare Committee, but my long-held view is that it locks this kind of contribution into an elected body. Ergo, CommOps is more effective as a team-based contribution model for internal connections instead of a committee-based contribution model.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:39:46
Fair, we could use a change in how we do things (and also, in WHAT we do). πŸ‘οΈ
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:39:49
Yes. I agree. And I don't want to put stop energy into the mix of the wisdom and experience folks already have here.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:40:00
I know y'all are passionate people :)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:40:09
I think we need to divide and conquer on this.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:40:51
As I slowly climb back on, my #1 focus will be on being a connection to Fedora budget, and bringing more transparency into how we can vote and decide on budget for regional events
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:41:06
Yeah, in retrospect, that felt more CommOps-y than Mindshare-y with some overlaps here and there...
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:41:11
But I don't want to be the lead for any of these focus areas in the charter. Ideally, I am helping coordinate with all the leads for each part of the charter
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:41:27
I probably need to write a blog post about this. A lot of stuff is in my head.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:42:52
So, let me think aloud.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:43:14
I think Luis Bazan has a lot of passion for regional events. I think he could be a good lead, but this part of the charter is really big, and a regional perspective is useful
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:43:38
I think Emma Kidney already coordinates a lot with Marketing as our Design Team member, and there is a natural collaboration there with Emma and Joseph Gayoso:
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:43:48
I think the two of them could be excellent leads on Digital Ambassadorships
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:44:02
Akashdeep Dhar: i see you hacking on Badges, sir 😜
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:44:04
How about we have everyone responsible for their own geographical area for their regional events? (For APAC, Sumantro Mukherjee can maybe take the lead?)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:44:15
And what are Badges other Than digital recognition?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:44:30
Of course, there is more than Badges to digital recognition
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:44:54
But maybe you could partner with Sumantro Mukherjee or Gwmngilfen as Infra folks with an eye towards ambassadorship globally?
<@lbazan:fedora.im>
10:45:01
I agree, and if everyone is in agreement, I would be happy to take responsibility for the regional events.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:45:26
In theory, it is nice, but what happens when we have an election and the geography changes? Also, if people change the region they live in 🌚
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:45:50
I think you should find a buddy to tackle this one! This one will work with me a lot on budget too, but there is a lot to unpack on this one
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:46:09
Ah fair - We can't let Geos influence elections (or vice versa). I take it back.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:46:19
Then I think Recognition is a good focus for you, in the Mindshare charter :)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:46:49
We should absolutely take a global view towards how we organize things. But we can all do this informally through our literal geographic positions
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:47:04
Oh, and important clarification
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:47:13
Being the lead does not mean "only this person does this"
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:47:18
We are not gatekeepimg :)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:47:24
But we need someone to be accountable
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:47:38
Instead of "let's ask Justin about all the things and to do all the things" 😁
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:48:01
Last three years in a nutshell ;P
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:48:22
Emma Kidney: WDYT about Digital Ambassadorship? Is this remotely interesting to you? And maybe tag-teaming it with Joseph?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:48:36
I think you and Joseph could be amazing to think through resources to help people be effective advocates for Fedora
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:48:43
The Marketing and Design roles are super influential there
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:48:53
But if you want to ponder, you don't have to sign up now :)
<@ekidney:matrix.org>
10:48:54
yah definitely!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:49:04
I do feel strongly everyone should have some ownership on parts of our charter though
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:49:20
Amazing!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:49:46
So, let me try to do a quick recap here
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:49:46
Helps folks with get started with stuff without having to wait for stuff being told to them.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:49:46
Agreed.
<@ekidney:matrix.org>
10:49:51
are we to suggest changes to how the charter is written? Am I understanding that right?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:49:55
And unfortunately, we probably won't have time to discuss the third ticket
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:50:04
TIME CHECK - We're at the last 11 minutes, folks!
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:50:06
That's OK, I feel better if we have clear ownership on parts of our charter
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:50:18
(I know Aoife has an elections topic too)
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:50:29
I need to make a proposal to the committee, should be very quick
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:51:32
in the new structure, the 4 seats were assigned as: Top 2 voted = 1 yr term, 3 + 4 voted in = 6 month term. I dont think this actually makes much sense, so I propose the committee change this to the full 4 voted seats serve a 1 yr term
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:51:49
Great question. I would say, this is absolutely in scope! If a lead wants to revise the charter to be more realistic / actionable, then we should. However, if what is written works as is, then the lead is the person who should be the one to take on efforts in that part of the charter. Proposing new ideas, getting feedback from community, in general being the directly responsible person for that section of the Mindshare Committee charter. And importantly, repping that back to the rest of the Committee
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:52:09
Oh right. I forgot this is how we designed it.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:52:27
I like the idea of an annual election more than biannual elections
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:52:50
If you're asking for a votes, I'mma a +1 to this because this allows for folks to actually be able to "execute" what they plan and then pass it on to people, rather than planning it and passing it to others until the coming cycle.
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:54:22
The folks coming in the next cycle might have their plans and it would not be fair to have things "assigned" to them from the previous term. I like to think of the committee as a place where how people do things is very personal to them. <3
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:54:32
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:54:32
Digital Ambassadorship: Emma Kidney to take the lead, and most likely in tandem with Joseph Gayoso as our Marketing Team voice.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:54:32
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:54:32
Recognition Service: Akashdeep Dhar to take the lead here, ideally also with another Committee member. Badges and swag are important considerations here.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:54:32
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:54:32
Regional Event Support: Luis Bazan to take the lead here. Ideally, also with one other member of Mindshare Committee. This part of the charter will coordinate closely with me, especially as 2026 event season creeps upon us.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:54:32
Oh, but quick recap on ownership.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:54:48
πŸ’―πŸ’―
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:54:49
!proposal The Mindshare Committee will change their elected representatives term to a one year cycle for all four seats, rather than a split of two seats serving one year and two seats serving 6 months. This is effective immediately and the next Mindshare election will be after the F44 Release cycle where four seats will be up for election, for a one year term each
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:55:07
+1 to that
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:55:10
Please vote on that and if you are ok, Justin Wheeler feel free to stick an !agreed statement on that
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:55:15
Ask Gwmngilfen maybe to co-represent digital recognition (But yeah, ask first before assigning I guess)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:55:20
Can we also vote on this as a !proposed?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:55:41
I am on mobile now and my meeting facilitation skills are terrible for the next five minutes 😝
<@lbazan:fedora.im>

10:55:56
I think I have an action item for you πŸ˜‰

+1 to both proposals πŸ˜„
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:56:14
Given you're on a mobile phone, I'd say you did some exemplary stuff - typing all of that, so quickly.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:56:19
To both?

🫣
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:57:22
Well, it sounds like we have agreement
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:57:28
And we even covered Aoife's open floor topic
<@t0xic0der:fedora.im>
10:57:47
To reach out to him on this? Sure.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:57:48
Aoife Moloney: If you are at a keyboard, could you help me write the agreed for both proposals?
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:57:54
And then we wrap this party up :)
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
10:57:59
Oh, I have an important action for me too
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
10:57:59
