<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:10:16
aha
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:10:27
1821 ... that's a very long time ago :)
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:11:21
Back before the second French Republic
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:12:05
easy to type, my name is common enough. I just spam this everywhere, but only for the last couple years. I'd fail at personal branding.
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:14:25
Ok so is there an agenda? or can I just bring up anything?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:14:31
seems like this is it for this meeting
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:14:33
!topic Followups
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:14:51
anyone have anything to follow on from last meeting?
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:15:28
I have things for later but I think they are not really last-meeting follow ups
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:15:50
nothing happened there
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:15:59
so if it's further previous, it's fine
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:16:58
but since there's nothing, let's move on to...
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:17:02
!topic Announcements
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:17:44
I don't have anything to announce right now
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:17:54
I think Hyperscale activity has been rather quiet the last couple weeks
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:19:00
yeah we were prepping for ASG last time round
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:19:22
I guess that counts as announcements? Davide and I plugged Hyperscale there too since it's where Proposed Updates comes from
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:19:46
cool
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:19:55
I still owe people a script to find inactive contributors so we can clean up, because I want to use that procedure in Proposed Updates as well ... been tied up with doing fixes for work
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:20:26
!info Davide Cavalca and Michel Lind UTC+1 were at All Systems Go! talking about CentOS Hyperscale and Proposed Updates SIGs.
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:21:13
I've been working on Gnome 49 backport using HS systemd? https://github.com/ublue-os/bluefin-lts/issues/789 getting help from Adrian at GNOME

15:21:21
I've been working on Gnome 49 backport using HS systemd? https://github.com/ublue-os/bluefin-lts/issues/789 getting help from Adrian at GNOME
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:21:38
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:22:01
oh nice
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:22:20
hmm this makes the GNOME repo we eventually plan tricky, if we also need to use systemd
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:22:27
need the userdb stuff
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:22:44
I guess we can borrow the systemd build by tagging it, since we don't really want to have to tell people to also enable hyperscale
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:23:06
yeah we only need userdb
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:23:33
well, that can be added through EPEL's systemd-extras package, no?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:23:51
but there's the larger problem that userdb will be broken in EL10 due to missing PAM integration
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:23:51
oof maybe, I'll give that a shot
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:24:10
yes... that's what I'm working on
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:24:27
yes... that's what I'm working on. Is it a fool's errand to try?
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:24:38
oh no
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:24:53
it might be that we may have to think of an "end of the line" for GNOME updates if they wind up being very aggressive about this
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:25:00
or for EL10 make it dependent on Hyperscale
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:25:14
and for EL11 make it work with regular CentOS
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:25:33
48.4 is currently end of the line if I can't get systemd working right
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:25:52
it's also possible to mix and match
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:25:57
don't upgrade gdm and upgrade everything else
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:26:01
I swear I can't see what james posted about earlier on my Matrix. ugh
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:26:21
I acidentaly edited it away

<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:26:43
ah it just said "need userdb stuff" now so that was really confusing
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:26:54
oh good I wanted to check if you're targeting el10 or 9. 9 is probably a dead end now
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:27:20
speaking of GNOME James did you get this issue where you can shut down from GDM but you can't from a running session?
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:27:34
the demo build Conan Kudo and I used at RH Summit had that issue
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:27:45
yeah, still not sure why that happened
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:27:55
no logs so difficult to figure out, yeah
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:28:04
no, 48.3 cleared up a lot of bugs
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:28:08
no, 48.3 cleared up a lot of bugs though
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:29:01
it might be that we'll need a mixed GNOME 48/49 stack for EL10
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:29:39
I think they've ripped most of the bandaid off in prep for 50
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:29:42
we should start documenting this together, james what is your preference? hackmd is a bit annoying these days so some of us have been using cryptpad
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:30:03
shure, anywhere is fine
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:30:06
yeah we discovered for our RH Summit bringup that CentOS Stream packages were improperly half-disabling X11 :)
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:30:19
swell, DM me your email and I'll send you an invite tomorrow
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:30:47
this derails quite a lot from "announcement" haha
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:30:50
anyway, this conversation should move to #centos-hyperscale:fedoraproject.org and #centos-hyperscale-gnome:fedora.im rooms
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:31:03
are there any other announcements?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:32:14
seems not, so let's move on to...
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:32:28
!topic Tickets
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:33:48
!info Davide Cavalca and Neal Gompa (Fedora) spent some time cleaning up the tracker in preparation for eventually moving to GitLab. Davide will orchestrate the migration.
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:34:14
There's nothing else for tickets, so let's move onto...

!topic Membership
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:34:46
We have a ticket for james applying to become a member. Can you introduce yourself?
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:36:42
My name is James Reilly. I'm working on Bluefin LTS, which is a Centos-based bootc image with the kitchen sink thrown in to make a highly opinionated desktop experience. I'm also in the Atomic SIG at AlmaLinux. Used to be a Support endingeer at Element, now promoting FOSS in India

<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:37:20
welcome James!
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:37:28
were you working out of India for Element too?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:37:30
welcome :)
<@rcolebaugh:matrix.org>
15:37:50
Welcome James!
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:37:53
nope in the US, quit to move to India to study Hindi
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:38:25
neat
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:38:50
that is definitely not an outcome I expect :)
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:39:15
Element needs more people worldwide, I remember asking questions when I was also based in the US and if it's not when London is at work it's hard to get answers :)
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:39:41
note to self look at signing up to Matrix Foundation
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:39:54
yes I had to cover Australia too when I was there it was ruff
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:40:02
yes I had to cover Australia too when I was there it was rough
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:40:23
oh god
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:40:51
just attending LCA online from the US was enough to swear me off that
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:40:58
they have a conf in Starbourgh next week. sad to miss
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:41:08
they have a conf in Strasbourgh next week. sad to miss
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:41:34
anyway, anyone have any objections?
<@rcolebaugh:matrix.org>
15:41:57
None from me :)
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:42:36
none
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:42:42
I don't either
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:42:46
so welcome james
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:43:09
do we have a checklist of what needs to be done to onboard?
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:43:18
I guess since Davide is out at the moment Neal will need to do it
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:43:20
... no?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:43:28
I don't know what we do 😅
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:43:44
anyway since James wants to work on desktop related stuff I guess the flow might be more unique than usual
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:43:56
!agreed james is accepted as a member of the Hyperscale SIG. Requisite paperwork will get processed soon.
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:44:04
iirc adding to the right ACL group and probably then handholding the first few package builds :)
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:44:08
yup
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:44:27
so now let's move onto the end
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:44:33
!topic Miscellaneous
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:44:43
anything anyone wants to bring up now
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:45:08
some packaging related updates from me but I'll go next
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:45:13
need to pull up details since my VM crashed
<@rcolebaugh:matrix.org>
15:45:48
* https://gitlab.com/CentOS/Hyperscale/rpms/openssh/-/merge_requests/1
<@rcolebaugh:matrix.org>
15:45:48
I'm updating openssh, have two MRs when folks have time to review:
<@rcolebaugh:matrix.org>
15:45:48
* https://gitlab.com/CentOS/Hyperscale/rpms/openssh/-/merge_requests/2
<@rcolebaugh:matrix.org>
15:46:14
Going to update c9s to the 9.9 release in the next couple weeks too
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:46:22
ah oops are those still stuck? sorry, I started reviewing and got sidetracked
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:46:40
the PITA with these merges is without a local checkout to compare against both the stock version and the previous HS version it's hard to give it approval
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:46:56
unless Neal gets to it first I'll review tomorrow when I have access to two monitors
<@rcolebaugh:matrix.org>
15:47:25
No worries! Ahh yeah that is pretty annoying. Okay awesome, thanks!
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:48:06
related to openssh I hear the distro folks are setting up some collaboration group for getting openssh patches collated and upstreamed
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:48:13
so I'll try and get us a seat at the table
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:48:25
that's awesome
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:49:00
yeah anything that can spread the load and also help everyone speak with upstream with a single voice
<@rcolebaugh:matrix.org>
15:49:02
Excellent, that would be great!
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:50:00
from my side, I have an updated rasdaemon - there's a logging (of course) patch that upstream still doesn't have that's in the hs+fb build, otherwise on c10s it's just a slightly newer version with out of tree patches removed
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:50:36
on c9s it's now shipping the same code as on c10s so one big difference is CXL is enabled - but I think it was enabled in our previous build anyway, and I accidentally dropped it in 0.8.3-1 when merging in changes from c9s
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:51:22
and I need to look at updating perf (6.15.0 is borked when building from the standalone tarball on aarch64, haven't had time to look at 6.16.0) and packaging ynl, worst case we will just use the kernel tarball and make lookaside sad
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:53:28
anyone has anything else?
<@james:reilly.asia>
15:55:13
is systemd 258 coming?
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:55:29
ah.. hmm Daan is away today
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:55:45
I think we're jumping to 259?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:55:48
I expect soon, but Daan De Meyer is the one that knows when exactly.
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:56:07
oh yeah, it's possible we'll skip to 259
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:56:27
anyway, I think that's everything
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:56:33
though nevermind, 258 got cut 3 weeks ago
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:56:37
so that's why the CI is already doing 259
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:56:41
and I need a bio+food break between meetings
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:56:49
yeah I'll ask about that later. I also have another meeting next :)
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:56:58
thanks everyone
<@salimma:fedora.im>
15:57:00
glad you can finally make it James! timezones are a mess
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:57:00
