I propose, we should cancel our regular meetings scheduled for Dec. 25 and Jan. 1
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:08:51
Can we keep Dec. 18 and Jan. or are we all already / still on our Christmas vacation?
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:09:45
As far as I'm concerned, we can keep 18/12 and 08/01
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:10:35
Mind you, I probably won't attend 08/01 because it's the second Wednesday of the month so...

18:18:07
Well, and now we are missing mowest ping!
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:18:23
I like the survey as is
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:19:01
I don't know if I've ever said this during a meeting but I think it would be a good idea to do this every couple of years
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:19:41
Yes, I agree! We should have done that a lot earlier.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:21:29
We should also study the access statistics that we have available. It is not that detailed, but nevertheless informative. Specifically the growth or fall of Server installations / downloads.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:21:57

<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:22:26
I will try to get some statistics for our next meeting.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:23:26
!action pboy will compile statistical data on the use of the Fedora server for one of the next meetings.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:23:58
Yes, good idea
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:24:09
We should also do this regularly every 3-4 months.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:24:25
!hello
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
18:24:26
Steve Daley (mowest)
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:24:44
Welcome mowest!
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:25:08
Sorry just finished with a work task.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:25:19
Yay, mowest !
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:26:06
mowest: Did you check the survey version that Justin transcferred?
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:26:40
Looking at it now
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:27:05
OK, let's have a final look at it here!
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:27:37
Looks like the same one that I had on my private instance, and we had earlier approved. So looks good to me.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:28:01
There was discussion about adding "use cases" of router and firewall.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:29:22
I suppose we could add those to the question, but I would be surprised to learn that it is a main use of Fedora Server. There was the one individual on Matrix that stated they were using it as a firewall, but using deprecated system, which is not something we would want to work on.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:29:48
Yes, I agree with you, that's a matter or the "other" category.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:30:25
I also believe that if people are using it as a firewall or router that they could put it into the "other" category.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:30:25
We should not add this as a precoded answer.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:31:39
Okay, I agree that there is not a need to add those use cases as a "precoded" answer.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:31:50
Same
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:32:04
Okay, so survey is good to go. What else?
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:32:24
Yes, Regarded part a) proposed !agreed The current version in Fedora lime space is the final one.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:32:39
+1
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:33:11
OK, no objection, so it is
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:33:20
!agreed The current version in Fedora lime space is the final one.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:33:45
Now to part b), our information and public outreach campaign.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:34:27
mowest: could you manage to put together something for Fedora Magazine?
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:35:07
Yes, I will try to send a draft today or by tomorrow noon (my time which is EST US)
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:35:20
I will send it to the mailing list.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:35:35
👍️
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:35:58
OK, tomorow on the mailing list.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:36:17
I honestly, don't know how to go from draft to get it into Fedora Magizine though.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:36:40
I thing, we should aim to get it published on Dec 11, when the survery is open. (we want to start Dec 10)
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:37:05
@mowest I know how to do that. Did it already several times.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:37:21
Okay, sounds good.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:37:46
OK, what else? What can we prepare?
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:38:58
I thought you pinged me about some social media thing... I don't do social media so what was that, I'm unsure of my role or what was being asked of me.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:39:40
mowest: It was just a question if you know about that.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:39:59
I don't use any of the social media thingies
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:41:41
I can post on the Fedora group on Facebook, if that's something we want done
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:41:47
We have a Fedora kind of social media SIG. They produce postings on a quite regular base.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:42:10
Emmanuel Seyman: YES! Do that!
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:42:34
!action eseyman will post on the Fedora group on Facebook.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:43:31
!action eseyman will post on the Fedora group on Facebook about Fedora Server survey.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:44:11
OK, I suppose that all about this topic? And we are ready to go?
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:44:19
Yes,
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:44:37
OK, then
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:44:39
!topic 3. Ansible assisted installation and configuration of NFS service
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:44:51
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:45:41
I suppose, there is nothing new here. Emmanuel Seyman could you manage to do some testing? Unfortuinately, I couldn't.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:47:36
I've actually being waiting for John to make the last minute changes he mentioned last week
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:47:46
I don't see that those have been done.
<@eseyman:fedora.im>
18:48:19
So I'm just going to make the changes I see fit and make a pull-request on the current stuff
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:48:57
OK. Let's skip this for now.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:49:11
!topic 4. Work program and goals
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:49:25
No Issue yet, open discussion
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:50:19
I think, we need to produce something new, something tangible and useful - urgently.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:50:42
And we need to get mir attentin for Server
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:50:56
And we need to get more attention for Server
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:53:37
How urgent? If what to work on before F42, I'm thinking that a clear roadmap for getting Fedora on SBC would be nice. A clearly pointed out image for Raspberry Pi's with it clearly pointed out which versions of the Raspberry Pi's it is compatible and such would be good. This could be a combination of cleaning up the documentation, and perhaps some changes to our webpage on the main Fedora Server site.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:54:13
Yes. My idea is to create a Fedora home server for SBC/Raspberry. That would be relatively easy to do, i.e. a bootable/installable image. We already have a template for that.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:55:15
In a first step / release we "just" need to collect a useful software suite
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:56:09
Rasberry Pi's are by far the dominant SBC, and Ubuntu has an image that can be installed through the Rasberry Pi Imager program that runs on Linux and Windows. I'm sure there are reasons why we are not there, but we are missing out on a huge opportunity to expand the exposure of Fedora to new users by not being on there. Kind of similar to proposals to make Fedora more of a 1st rate citizen on WSL on Windows which would also be good.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:57:02
mowest: Agreed!
<@mowest:fedora.im>
18:57:58
I believe getting Fedora on WSL and on Raspberry Pi's will bring more attention to Fedora and possibly server. It would be nice if we had Fedora Server on WSL since the primary way that people interact with WSL on Windows is through the CLI.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
18:59:48
I don't know anything about WSL at the moment, but that would also be appealing. Could we also produce a bootable image for that?
<@pboy:fedora.im>
19:00:09
We need something "tangible" :-)
<@pboy:fedora.im>
19:01:31
I have Mac and UTM for virtualization here. That would be a similar project to WSL, I think.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
19:02:05
Well, our time is up.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
19:02:26
"tangible" is a good point.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
19:02:34
Let's continue to discuss about that next meeting.
<@mowest:fedora.im>
19:03:06
Sounds good, hopefully, I will make it next week.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
19:03:14
I would close the meeting, unless there is anything to discuss now.
<@pboy:fedora.im>
19:03:19
