mowest is working on a Fedora Mag article. What other advertising campaigns do we want to initiate

I owe the Server WG an apology. And especially mowest. I know I have been a blocker. To make a long story short, I was struggling a lot with burnout. I am recently taking some steps to be less burnt out. I will help pick up on the LimeSurvey work. The key info I need to know is the desired timeline to launch the survey. I can work on importing it and publishing it with support from mowest and you all.

JWF (he/him): Justin, no issue and no harm done. I can understand it fully being swamped for some time.

I just pinged mowest in DM about the LimeSurvey. I believe he can send me an exported version of the survey in his personal account.

Regarding the timeline: I think, we need 2 weeks to make all the required advertising and announcemants. But then it wuled be fine.

Then, I can upload it into the Fedora LimeSurvey and make some small configuration changes for our site.

You should pick your health over Fedora activities any day of the week

How long should the poll running? What is a good time frame?

I guess it depends how much time until you want to act on the data somehow? Do you want it in time for the next release cycle?

Sort of depends upon when the Mag article get published

60 days sounds good to me, especially if we have the end of year holidays during that timeframe

Expect that response uptake will be slow in December/early January. We could promote the survey a lot at FOSDEM in early February, since that is a major outreach time for us.

GNOME Asia is 5-6 December…

If it were published in time for GNOME Asia, we could promote it there too

It will be in Bengaluru, India and it is our major APAC outreach for the year

I know that is a little tight

But I would be happy to promote the survey at the event together with the Fedora local team for GNOME Asia

We can publish an article in FedMag on short notice. So, Dec 10 as a start would be OK with that.

'GNOME Asia' doesn't screen 'users of Fedora Server' to me, TBH

Also, I could promote the survey if it is public at the event, even if the Magazine article is not done

I can speak to it a bit and provide guidance to the local team for promoting the survey.

It might not be a huge miss for feedback.

OI suppopse, many Gnome users do use Server, too. And some may administering Servers, I guess.

But definitely, it will be good to promote at FOSDEM.

Last year at GNOME Asia, I was interested to find many people who used Linux for hosting and server use cases more than the desktop. Some attended the event because they were wanting to explore Linux for their personal hardware using GNOME

As a talk for FOSDEM? A talk proposal probably needs to be more than only a survey promotion. But we can work with the Design Team to make a poster to show at the Fedora stand.

And also talk about it in the Distributions DevRoom

I am helping run it with Sumantro, Aoife, Shaun McCance, and folks from openSUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, and AlmaLinux

So, promoting the Fedora Server WG will be possible there

We have time now to plan the promotion :)

FTR, FOSDEM 2025 will be held on 1 & 2 February

Due to illness (pneumonia), I've not made much progress the last two weeks. I have the server side and the client side installing and configuring via ansible. It assume uid & gid are the same on client and host (not too realistic of an assumption). I need to figure out usage of rpcidmap and configure it. Also need to finish documentation.

I hope you make a full recovery soon. 🙏 I am getting over the flu. Being sick bites.

I would like to bring our SBC project to a (temporary) end and start a home server spin-off for SBCs.

To create a bootable image is quite easy, according to my experiences with the KVM image.
