!info #188: Tracker for Fedora 41 Changes (pnemade)
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:04:11
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:05:15
As you know this time we got only 1 Change for Fedora 41, that Change has been implemented and tested successfully as well as part of our i18n test week
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:05:38
now this Change need to be documented as part of release-notes as well
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:05:45
the ticket is open already
<@kanru:wara.tw>
07:05:56
Hi
<@pwu:fedora.im>
07:06:32
Hi
<@kanru:wara.tw>
07:07:07
Anything I need to do as the change owner?
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:07:55
this ticket has the needed information https://gitlab.com/fedora/docs/fedora-linux-documentation/release-notes/-/issues/131
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:09:02
Kan-Ru Chen: So either you can submit or docs team will take release notes contents from Change page
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:10:08
anything else to discuss for this ticket?
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:11:59
I assume nothing more to discuss here.
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:12:06
!info #189: Fedora 39 Bug triaging (pnemade)
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:12:11
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:12:49
we still have some bugs open against Fedora 39 release
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:13:31
Today's count is 37 now
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:13:44
Last date to resolve them is 26th Nov
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:14:23
Are there any we should discuss?
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:14:51
well individual assignee can better access if they find it important to fix
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:15:54
well individual assignee can better assess if they find it important to fix
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:18:26
So does any assignee think they need more time to fix any of these bugs?
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:19:12
!info bug list link https://da.gd/cpMB
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:20:58
we still have one month time so try to triage them
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:21:08
Let's move to next ticket
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:22:14
!info #196: default IME for Hong Kong (F42) (petersen)
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:22:21
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:23:14
Yeah thought we should discuss this
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:24:09
mfabian: around too?
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:25:00
Yes, I think we could add ibus-cangie.
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:25:32
Probably best to install both ibus-cangie and ibus-table.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:26:05
I suppose an additional question is whether we should install by default - we don't really have hard criteria I think
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:26:24
Well not both by default anyway imo
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:27:07
I would prefer to choose one if possible
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:27:11
I think it would be nice if both were available when using a Live image.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:27:24
Hmm
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:27:40
Why?
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:28:52
Currently there is none of them on the live image, of I remember correctly, because I made a mistake in comps.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:29:23
Right earlier we didn't install by default
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:29:49
I think we have an open ticket about language criteria
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:30:07
Would it be OK to have only ibus-table on the live image and install ibus-cangie later when zh_HK is used?
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:30:24
Yes it would
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:30:30
Or vice versa
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:31:18
At least assuming it doesn't violate hypothetical criteria
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:31:21
Then I would prefer that, install ibus-cangie later and keep ibus-table the default.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:31:54
But ibus-cangjie asking for it
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:32:02
But ibus-cangjie people asking for it
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:32:28
I think we need to compare perhaps
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:33:23
We removed ibus-cangie from the default because it was crashing, I fixed the crash but upstream appeared dead when I submitted my fix. Maybe upstream has raised from the dead and is active again?
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:33:43
Seems so
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:34:07
That could be part of the conversation
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:34:50
If it is active, and most users prefer it, I would not mind making it the default.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:35:53
I think we can respond in Bugzilla - I should probably post the issue there too
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:36:11
Anyway should really be done as a Fedora Change
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:36:29
I think we can respond in Bugzilla - should probably post the issue there too
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:36:34
Yes.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:37:30
Any other thoughts?
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:38:03
fujiwara pwu: ?
<@fujiwarat:matrix.org>
07:39:23
I know the ibus-cangjie crash issue but anyone didn't report it and I assumed there aren't many users.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:39:44
There's a new version in fedora
<@fujiwarat:matrix.org>
07:40:19
It would be another issue.
<@pwu:fedora.im>
07:40:28
I think it need a Fedora Change and discussion.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:41:02
fujiwara: I mean the crash is old, but I get your point
<@pwu:fedora.im>
07:41:20
Maybe some polling in Fedora Discussion first.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:41:31
Obviously if it is still buggy we won't change
<@fujiwarat:matrix.org>
07:41:44
It would be good to keep the current status until users report any issues. I don't think it's the important issue.
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:42:05
I also wondered if there are many users because nobody seemed to complain when it was crashing.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:42:06
I think we can take a similar approach to how we handle ibus-chewing
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:42:15
I think we can take a similar approach to how we handled ibus-chewing
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:42:25
Hmm
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:42:53
So maybe it's not such a priority to install by default
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:43:38
Well a discussion would be good - I agree with pwu
<@tagoh:matrix.org>
07:43:39
There are no objective comparison even in bugzilla. they should mention what/why ibus-cangjie is better than ibus-table.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:44:26
Right we need to ask
<@mfabian:matrix.org>
07:44:54
If ibus-table has some shortcomings, I would like to know what exactly and improve it.
<@juhp:matrix.org>
07:45:40
Okay let's start the conversation
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:47:17
thanks for having this discussion
<@paragan:matrix.org>
07:47:22
let's move to next topic
