Looking at issues and docs, we don't have anything marked (or looks like it should be marked) for meeting this week.

So, moving on.

Carl George: Did you want to bring up the new directory naming scheme?

<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:07:24
I know that's now what it's called, but my mind went blank when thinking of it.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:08:11
to be clear, the directory names wouldn't be changing, but symlinks and repo redirects would
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:08:38
discussion on the thread slowed down pretty quick, no new replies in the last week
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:09:28
we haven't had any replied in there from rebuilds who define `$stream` incorrectly, but i've reached out to people from both and asked them to comment

<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:10:22
Been thinking on it from my side. Need to get a reply in soon
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:10:58
I didn't manage to get a bug in for Rocky, to match the bug opened with Alma. Sorry about that. This past week has been quite busy.
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:11:41
I meant to inform everyone in the alma TSC but I failed to do so (was traveling when carl mentioned it to me). I've just posted there so by the next meeting I should have feedback/thoughts from the alma side.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:11:51
maybe Michael L. Young is around and can comment
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:12:23
I don't think he's at ciq anymore...
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:12:46
when i reached out he said he was still involved in rocky though, despite that
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:13:18
at the very least hopefully it can ping the right people to get some traction
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>

<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:15:17
i don't want to rush this too much, but i will point out that if we are doing the epel 10 part, it would be best to do it sooner rather than later. transition wise, it would need to happen with a minor version, so either with rhel 10.3 in the fall or rhel 10.4 next spring.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:16:20
I think getting it into 10.3 would be better. That's usually the release that people start ramping up their usage.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:16:52
considering that, i want to suggest having the vote on the epel 11 part next week (aug 5th), and the epel 10 part the week after that (aug 12th). that will give us enough time to get the process laid out appropriately before 10.3 branching.
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:17:13
seems like a good timeline, and i also lean towards sooner is better than later for 10.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:17:18
Sounds like a good plan
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:17:45
that's a relief, i thought the reaction would be to slow down 😁
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:18:28
Na, I've had to explain the Z style to several people already. The more 10 get's traction, the more I'll have to explain it.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:19:46
that was a big part of what lead me to even propose this. we didn't get the private mirror complaints early on, and now we're starting to get them from relatively early adopters (by enterprise standards), and i think it will only get worse from here if we stick to the z style.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:21:24
Anything else that we want to discuss with this proposal?
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:21:53
And does anyone have any other Old Business?
<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:22:01
My only worry with the proposal is on how the endpoint names will differ with branch naming...
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:23:04
sure, but it's different now too. none of the branches have z in them.
<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:24:50
That's true too
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:25:08
there's no perfect alignment given all the constraints
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:25:43
a year ago i really liked the alignment of epel10 branch landing in epel/10 repo, but i'm not sure it's worth the other problems
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:27:27
So, for this, the epel10 branch lands in the epel10s repo ... and we don't see epel10.3 (either branch or repo) until the branching time ... I'm ok with that.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:29:13
Any other points we want to talk about before we move on?
<@tdawson:fedora.im>

<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:30:45
Does anyone have anything for Open Floor?
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:32:10
for awareness, fedora podcast interviewed me yesterday about epel in general and the epel 11 proposal specifically. i don't know what their production and release timing looks like, but if you want to check it out i would guess it will be available in the next week or two.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:33:16
Cool. I'm glad that EPEL was able to get more visibility ... as well as the the Fedora Podcast is still happening.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:33:57
yeah i think they go through bursts of activity, seeing as the hosts do it as volunteers and are busy
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:34:03
Ah cool
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:34:27
in the same vein, i'd appreciate everyone helping spread the word about the proposal to drive feedback
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:35:58
Will do.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:36:15
Anything else for Open Floor?
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:38:23
I'll take that as a no, and that everyone wants to end early.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:38:47
Thank you all for coming and the good discussions. And thank you for all you do for EPEL and it's community.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:39:09
And, just if people are curious, no I do not just cut and paste that, I really am grateful for all your work.
<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:39:11
Thx troy ^^
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:39:21
Talk to you next week, if not sooner.
