15:41:29
do we have anyone this cycle who wants to volunteer to be the release wrangler?
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:41:43
i.e. the items in https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/1935
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:41:59
πI can do it this cycle
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:42:21
Just a question: when are we going to have the Test Week?
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:43:10
Probably mid to late September. I think we typically do it after beta release.
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:43:17
!action: π© marmijo will be the release wrangler for Fedora 43 this cycle
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
15:43:37

<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:43:48
zodbot: how about a beer then?
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
15:44:10
spresti gave a cookie to marmijo. They now have 17 cookies, 6 of which were obtained in the Fedora 42 release cycle
<@zodbot:fedora.im>

<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:47:48
So, let's move to our topics from tracker repository.
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:48:03
!topic maintenance status of coreos/go-systemd repo
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:48:03
!link https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/1994
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:48:48
Folks from the podman team would like to take over maintenance of a Go module that we don't really maintain anymore
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:48:52
So +1 from me
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:49:19
+1 from me ποΈ
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
15:49:23
No Fedora Accounts users have the @aaradhak:matrix.org Matrix Account defined
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:49:47
+1 from me too.
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:49:52
+1 from me ποΈ
<@jbtrystram:matrix.org>
15:49:58
+1 !
<@aaradhak:matrix.org>
15:50:04
+1
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:50:08
I'm fine moving this to another org, but it appears to be more work than just moving the repo and it's fine to keep it in the coreos org.
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:50:56
Makes sense
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:51:14
+1 from me as well
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:53:47
So are we going to keep it in our org and add new mainteners from podman team?
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:54:07
So agreed "Add new maintainers to the go-systemd repo and keep it under the coreos org"
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:54:43
!agreed: Add new maintainers to the go-systemd repo and keep it under the coreos org
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:55:04
!agreed: π Add new maintainers to the go-systemd repo and keep it under the coreos org
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:55:32
Not sure if it works, anyway I will comment it in the issue to let them know.
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:56:55
!agreed Add new maintainers to the go-systemd repo and keep it under the coreos org
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:57:10
yeah. I think you didn't need the `:`
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:57:38
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:57:38
!link https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/1991
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:57:38
So, we have also this recently label added issue in fedora-coreos-tracker, from dustymabe
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
15:57:38
Consider switching EROFS live generation from -Eall-fragments to -Efragments #1991
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:58:29
The EROFS maintainer is suggesting we switch to using another option to build our EROFS images
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:58:54
I have not done any performance / size checks but it should be fine if the maintainer recommends it
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:59:05
a quick check for regressions would still be good
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:59:26
so +1 from me
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:59:33
This is where having a fairly comprehensive CI helps a lot.
<@siosm:matrix.org>
15:59:59
I don't think we check build time or runtime performance however :)
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:00:05
I'd like to make the change in EL10 too but I think the version there is older and the new options aren't recommended yet
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:01:19
The maintainer is going to open a request to bump EL10 as well. We can update our config in the rhel-coreos-config repo with a link to the tracker for updating the version. So EL10 will stay on the old options for now, while Fedora moves to the new ones.
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:04:08
sounds good to me
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:04:48
!proposed we'll use the new flag in FCOS and update EL10 once erofs-utils 1.8.10 lands there
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:05:30
ποΈ
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:05:33
sgtm
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:06:09
I think we don't have 'proposed', let's use ideainstead
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:06:19
!idea we'll use the new flag in FCOS and update EL10 once erofs-utils 1.8.10 lands there
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:07:07
+1
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:07:16
So, last topic from the tracker:
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:07:16
!link https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/1934
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:07:16
!topic tracker: Fedora 43 changes considerations
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:07:16
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:08:14
Oh I think we should have agreed on that before switching topics 'i.e agreed' but maybe idea will be enough for this time
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:09:23
Sorry about it, we can go back on that. Should we vote?
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:10:19
No worries its just an automation thing; (we did agree) just the bot doesnt know
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:11:31
no one complained so it should be fine but agree that we should have agreed to it :)
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:13:04
we are a bit short on time to review the new changes but I don't see anything major so we can table that for next time and do it async
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:13:40
Ok, should we jump directly for the open floor?
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:14:45
I would say so
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:15:08
!topic Open Floor
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:16:41
I wanted to ask about frequency of release for afterburn/ignition we have a new proivder being added and well that can be quite a influence on demand for a release. The issue is we just released 2 weeks ago
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:18:35
I guess we release as needed
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:19:01
do you feel like it's too much work to do it so soon?
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:20:44
No its not that its too much work, it just feels like it can be a time sync. Upstream is not bad its downstream that takes awhile
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:21:11
What's the new provider?
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:21:13
if we don't strictly need the changes downstream then we can skip pushing it there
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:21:20
It's a fairly small change and getting new providers supported is always nice so I would say we should do it
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:21:25
upcloud
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:21:30
https://github.com/coreos/ignition/pull/2110
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:22:27
Nice. Never heard of them
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:22:59
yeah. I'd say if we don't need the change downstream then we opt-out of doing that for releases
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:23:24
it's nice to get it into FCOS at least
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:24:26
Okay well I will plan to have another release in the next sprint :)
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:24:48
Yeah the main draw is upstream in this case for sure
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:26:38
It's kind of nice we are getting a lot of contributions
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:26:50
Thank you for working on this spresti
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
16:27:09
siosm gave a cookie to dustymabe. They now have 196 cookies, 4 of which were obtained in the Fedora 42 release cycle
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:27:11
Definitely share the load if we can find new people on the team interested in learning
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
16:27:20
siosm gave a cookie to spresti. They now have 3 cookies, 1 of which were obtained in the Fedora 42 release cycle
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:27:33
Yes! It's nice that people are participating a lot!
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
16:27:37
No Fedora Accounts users have the @ydesouza:matrix.org Matrix Account defined
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:27:43
100%
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:28:04
We are almost finishing with our time! So thank you all for being here today! Nice discussions :)
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:29:45
oh.. one more thing
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:29:57
anyone have an oracle cloud account and want to test our new docs?
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:30:20
https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-docs/pull/741
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:30:41
they just merged this morning: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-coreos/provisioning-oraclecloud/
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:30:59
but AFAIK no one other than the author has executed the CLI commands directly
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:31:25
it's based on the docs I had made which I had tested on Oracle Cloud
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:31:49
but agree it would be good to test it again
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:32:15
I still have access to an account but not so much time to do it so if someone is interested I can help
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:33:03
ok that's all I had. sorry for the late topic
<@ydesouza:matrix.org>
16:33:51
