support for Proxmox has been discussed before, and I think it was another case of "if there's interest, we're open for others to implement it", and some tickets related to that were spun out (see https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/736#issuecomment-777221334)

one notably about "platform support tiers"

anyway, there's a PR now in afterburn for adding support for the platform: https://github.com/coreos/afterburn/pull/1023

it's being added for another distro (Flatcar) but it still helps FCOS too if other parts are eventually implemented too

at the very least, we should agree on a platform ID so that it's consistent across the two distros

their website says they have a few products. proxmox virtual environment is their platform

I guess that's what they're referring to. I used the Proxmox VE in the past as a controller for virtual machines on a local server.

The last time we discussed this:

Writing the CLHM dropin sounds simple, but requires inspecting podman/node settings. It would be an interesting experience for someone unfamiliar with this stuff. So would writing a coreos-status post

+1 would love some volunteers to drive this (an opportunity to learn)

I will note that rawhide right now is still podman 4.8.3

what we should do is verify that the steps we give people will get them all the way to podman v5 without any further steps

I assume there are probably some copr packages somewhere of podman v5 dev

specifically, testing this requires a node born on e.g. f35 and upgraded throughout

so yeah, we might be able to verify at least that a recent FCOS install can get to podman v5 with no intervention needed

I was going to bring up the general F40 changes ticket, but none of the new accepted changes have bugs assigned to them so my script breaks

I can see the new accepted changes and I think it's safe to wait a week to discuss them.
