17:04:06 <pboy> It's a lot. Let's see how far we'll get.
17:04:18 <pboy> Anything to add?
17:04:41 <pboy> OK none
17:04:44 <pboy> #topic 1. Follow up actions
17:04:46 <mowest> Big agenda already, but sometime need to organize thoughts for Fedora Podcast
17:04:54 <eseyman> that's more than enough, IMHO
17:05:06 <pboy> Nothing specific here, just the long running gag.
17:05:21 <pboy> So, let's skip
17:05:38 <pboy> #topic 2. maximum size of aarch64 Server network install image
17:05:48 <pboy> #link https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/3082
17:05:58 <pboy> #link https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/server@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/LGD2CLXH4KVHH3CMR53SGSY5RSGNN6YO/
17:06:12 <pboy> A short break for reading?
17:06:48 <mowest> I looked into aarch64 isos for Ubuntu server, and it appears they don't even make a "network install" image, they just have their single Ubuntu Server iso for aarch64 which stands at over 2GB. So I'm okay with our change.
17:08:04 <eseyman> I'll argue the size limit doesn't make sense for aarch64
17:08:09 <mowest> I agree with the desire to keep things small for areas with less connectivity, probably best to increase the iso size limit at this time for all the reasons stated in the change request.
17:09:49 <pboy> My idea is as in the discussion: enlarge aarch64 because it is technically necessary and everyone who operates abn aaerch64 server will have enough bandwith
17:10:09 <mowest> +1 for increasing, agreed
17:10:16 <pboy> And let everything else unchanged.
17:10:35 <eseyman> yes
17:10:54 <pboy> So proposed: Enlarge aarch64 net install media to 1 GB. Letting everything else as is.
17:11:06 <mowest> +1
17:11:21 <pboy> +1 for me
17:11:24 <eseyman> +1
17:11:27 <pboy> OK
17:11:44 <pboy> #agreed Enlarge aarch64 net install media to 1 GB. Letting everything else as is.
17:12:13 <pboy> WE have on our working plan to review the installation media
17:12:40 <pboy> We have a lot of bload in it. E.g. modules for OS-tree.
17:12:58 <pboy> that is absolutely useless on server installation medoium.
17:13:27 <smooge> now now.. someone somewhere must be using it sometime
17:13:54 <pboy> Yes, but on Server? :-)
17:14:15 <pboy> #topic 3. Fedora release 39 beta current state and how to continue
17:14:58 <pboy> Just a question because I missed everything last week: Do we release on thuesday next week?
17:15:41 <mowest> I have successfully installed and reattached during install to a btrfs array that acts as my /home. F39Beta is working just fine on that server. I have been using cockpit more on it, automatic updates are working on it as well.
17:16:05 <pboy> mowest ++1
17:16:06 <eseyman> Go/No-go will be decided tomorrow
17:16:23 <pboy> tomorrow. OK
17:16:41 <pboy> Are all blockers resolved., do you know?
17:17:17 <mowest> Seeing it running fine on my backup server, I will probably update to F39 on my main homelab server soon after release.
17:17:56 <pboy> I have tested the X98 VM and it is working fine.
17:17:58 <eseyman> one blocker is 'NEW'
17:18:08 <pboy> Oh,
17:18:43 <pboy> Has someone tried on Raspberry and Co?
17:18:48 <eseyman> FTR, https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/milestone/39/final/buglist
17:19:42 <mowest> This is over at Fedora Discussion https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-39-server-does-not-boot-on-raspberry-pi-4-from-microsd-card-slot/92755
17:21:00 <pboy> Thanks for the link. I think, it's still a lot.
17:22:16 <mowest> I have a RPi4 with 4GB at home, I could possibly do some tests, but haven't done a lot with Fedora on RPi because most of my RPi's are older and not supported by Fedora
17:22:33 <pboy> moest
17:22:56 <eseyman> according to the bug, this is being actively investigated
17:23:21 <pboy> mowest a pi 4 with 4 gb is fine. Please check. I'll check tomorrow my Rockchip devices.
17:23:44 <pboy> eseyman well actively investigated.
17:24:05 <pboy> Doesn't look like a solutoin fpr tomorrow
17:25:35 <pboy> At least mowest had the installation disk woking and me our VM. So I think, we checked the most important things.
17:25:46 <mowest> Looking at docs for installing Fedora on SBC, this looks complicated. Is there anyway that we can get an image that works with the RPi installer that they created. Ubuntu Server has an image that works with the RPi imager program.
17:26:20 <pboy> Fedora has a different aproach
17:26:22 <mowest> Yes, I used the Network Install of the x86 iso for my install on my homelab server.
17:26:49 <pboy> One install image, which gets adjusted to the hardware at installation time.
17:27:09 <pboy> That way we can support a range of devices
17:27:18 <pboy> with one install media
17:27:35 <pboy> Did you mean our server documentation?
17:28:16 <mowest> Yes
17:28:21 <pboy> By the way, the RPI is preconfigured.
17:28:49 <pboy> You can just copy with balena, without any adjustments.
17:29:37 <pboy> Yes, it a bit long. We should try to improve it after F39 release.
17:29:45 <mowest> Do we have a special place where the RPi images exist for Fedora server? If what you say is the case I could probably test it this week.
17:30:14 <pboy> mowest yes, it is directly on the server download page.
17:30:59 <pboy> You can take the aarch64 SBC image and transfer it to a uSD card using balena - or dd
17:31:28 <eseyman> https://www.fedoraproject.org/server/download/
17:31:53 <pboy> But after that you have to adjust the system. On the card is 6 gb HD system, at least you have to expand the storage.
17:32:34 <pboy> Well. let's see how the go/nogo meeting goes tomorrow
17:32:35 <mowest> Do you image an SD card with the "raw" or the dvd iso?
17:32:59 <pboy> With the rawQ
17:32:59 <eseyman> the raw file
17:33:09 <mowest> Thanks
17:33:18 <pboy> the iso is for quite expansive hardware
17:33:41 <mowest> I didn't know the image was preconfigured for RPi
17:33:48 <pboy> I wanted to buy one, but 3.000 Euro for the smallest system is a lot.
17:34:31 <pboy> mowest is is burried in the ARM docs. And I tried it a while ago and it worked.
17:35:02 <pboy> Do we have as Server WG a dedicated position about release in the current state?
17:35:45 <mowest> I am fine with release, but my homelab testing has been for a very limited use case.
17:36:28 <pboy> Yeah, my VM testing was for "real" servers. And it's OK
17:37:06 <pboy> OK, I'll visit the meeting tomorrow as I did last release. And I will see then.
17:37:22 <pboy> I think, we should switch
17:37:39 <pboy> #topic 4. Fedora Server on F39 release party
17:37:57 <pboy> My idea is, we should contribute as Server WG.
17:38:08 <pboy> It's a kind of large video meeting
17:38:19 <pboy> Any idea?
17:38:30 <mowest> Is there a date set?
17:38:49 <pboy> It is planned for begining of November
17:39:00 <pboy> I don't know the exact date.
17:39:18 <pboy> Usiually it is Friday afternoon / evening and Saterday
17:39:48 <pboy> And we would have about half an hour, 15 min for presentation and than discussion
17:40:50 <eseyman> I'm not a huge fan of video meetings but I'll be there if needed
17:41:01 <mowest> We could present: 1. Encourage everyone to try setting up a box 2. Point out positives of out of the box experience (ie. ssh ready, cockpit running...) 3. Great learning environment for SELinux, Podman, VM... 4. Plans to expand use on SBC's.
17:41:49 <pboy> mowest it a lot :-) yeah we should select one or two
17:42:15 <pboy> I could add: Server on rented VPS
17:42:26 <pboy> that our working plan for F40
17:43:02 <pboy> And you no 2 - I like it a lot after srtruggeling several days with Debian.
17:43:28 <mowest> Yes, it is a good time to highlight the future to encourage participation in the Server WG
17:43:31 <pboy> And SBC is a topic, a lot of people are interested in
17:44:12 <mowest> Perhaps we could encourage proper use of the #server tag on Fedora Discussion so we can surface new ideas and pain points easier.
17:44:27 <eseyman> +1 on that one
17:45:08 <pboy> OK, I think we'll put in 3 topics: out of the box, SBC and rented VPS. And I'll discuss it with the release-party-team?
17:45:21 <pboy> not all 3, but to select one
17:45:27 <pboy> one of them
17:46:13 <mowest> I think whatever one is picked you could do a plug for F40 and encourage #server tag use on Fedora Discussion
17:46:40 <pboy> mowest good idea.
17:46:51 <mowest> I have 0 experience with rented VPS so I wouldn't be a lot of help for that one, but it is a good topic.
17:47:11 <pboy> #agreed pboy will discuss with the release party team who Server will contribute.
17:47:20 <pboy> is that OK? od undo
17:47:28 <mowest> +1
17:47:48 <pboy> +1 :-)
17:48:16 <pboy> OK, next topic, I trhink
17:48:30 <pboy> #topic 5. Fedora Server WG meeting time after end of Summer Time
17:48:59 <pboy> Next weekend is end of summer time in Europe and most of the world.
17:49:09 <pboy> I'm not sure about the US
17:49:25 <pboy> Is it earlier, or late?
17:49:28 <mowest> If we could keep our meeting time at this same time after the time change, I would appreciate it. It works out as 1:00pm Eastern Standard Time in the US which is good for me.
17:50:00 <mowest> US changes on 11/5/23
17:50:16 <eseyman> no opinion
17:50:25 <pboy> mowest we now meet 17:00 UTC and would trhen meet 18:00 UTC, the the local time is unchanged.
17:51:19 <pboy> And we would start Nov. 1 (it's a Wednesday), when the US is still on summer time?
17:51:38 <mowest> Yes, we change the following Sunday
17:51:39 <pboy> or start on Nov. 15, when anyone has changed?
17:52:25 <pboy> Mowest, it's you. your time would change next meeting for one time
17:52:36 <mowest> My vote is start 11/15, but I will respect the wishes of my Europian friends.
17:52:44 <pboy> For me, both options are OK
17:53:01 <pboy> eseyman, what about you?
17:53:23 <eseyman> same
17:54:22 <pboy> OK then, Next meeting still 17:00 UTC, so we European will have it one our earlier, and then swith to 18:00 UTC.
17:55:12 <pboy> Well, I think we skip Ansible / Wildfly. I think John is still busy.
17:55:36 <pboy> #topic 7. F39/40 Work Project: Fedora Server in a virtualized runtime environment
17:55:53 <pboy> It's a big topic for 5 mins left.
17:56:46 <pboy> The next step is collecting information.
17:56:59 <mowest> I have nothing to add on this topic.
17:57:06 <pboy> Propably, the release party would be a goot occasion.
17:57:52 <pboy> OK, I think we should wait for the release party discussion. And postpone
17:58:02 <pboy> So nest topic is
17:58:13 <pboy> #topic 8. Open Floor
17:58:31 <mowest> Fedora Podcast?
17:58:56 <eseyman> FTR, lemonldap-ng has been reviewed and included in Fedora
17:59:02 <eseyman> https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/lemonldap-ng
17:59:21 <eseyman> Upstream is pretty happy about it: https://twitter.com/lemonldapng/status/1714560431509885416
18:00:06 <pboy> Oh, didn't know that piece ot software. Look great!
18:00:27 <pboy> Do you know who has packagei it?
18:01:01 <mowest> I'm signing off, thanks for a great meeting.
18:01:07 <eseyman> yes, Xavier Bachelot, a packager and contributor to upstream
18:01:32 <pboy> Oh thanks. I'll have a look at it.
18:01:39 <pboy> And give it a try
18:01:49 <pboy> Well time is up.
18:02:00 <pboy> Let's meet in 14 days again.
18:02:13 <eseyman> I have to go as well. See you in 14, guys
