15:02:24 <zodbot> jwf: jflory7 'Justin W. Flory' <jwf@redhat.com>
15:03:12 <jwf> Good morning, good afternoon, good night!
15:03:55 <bcotton> hm. it may be time to send a schedule poll again
15:04:04 <bcotton> but for now, let's proceed with those who are here!
15:04:13 <bcotton> #topic Today's agenda
15:04:13 <bcotton> #info Fun in Frankfurt
15:04:13 <bcotton> #info Open ticket review
15:04:13 <bcotton> #info Your topics here!
15:04:21 <bcotton> #topic What to do for fun in Frankfurt?
15:04:21 <bcotton> #link https://www.younited.de/teamevent-frankfurt.html
15:04:28 <bcotton> take it away, Justin W. Flory (he/him)
15:04:36 <jwf> I can help rep this one
15:04:38 <jwf> Right!
15:04:54 <jwf> So, obviously, we have some work ahead of us for our first face to face meeting as the Council in years.
15:05:05 <jwf> There is a topic on Fedora Discussion for planning our agenda.
15:05:25 <jwf> But, we will also be together again for the first time in years, and it would be nice to have some fun together!
15:05:40 <jwf> The link above has a few options shared by a local contact in Frankfurt, to give an idea for options.
15:06:12 <jwf> But generally I wanted to know what folks were interested in doing together. We could be elaborate or keep it simple. But this is all I wanted to know, if there were strong feelings or if I should just pick something that seems nice.
15:06:37 <dcantrell> I'm looking at that link
15:06:42 <jwf> There was some chatter in the Council chat about even just doing a walking tour and a nice dinner, which could be an option too.
15:06:56 <jwf> dcantrell: Yup. No rush!
15:07:20 <bcotton> personally, i'm fine with something simple, but i could go along with just about anything
15:08:31 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> > <@funnelfiasco:matrix.org> #topic What to do for fun in Frankfurt?
15:08:31 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> > #link https://www.younited.de/teamevent-frankfurt.html
15:08:31 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> An icecream flavor selection here. All great enough to be done.
15:09:37 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> My preference would be for those options that keep us outdoors.
15:10:49 <jwf> AkashdeepDhar[m7: That's useful feedback and more than likely feasible.
15:11:09 <jwf> Alternatively, we don't have to decide something right now, but I'd like to lock something in by end of this week so I have time to get something for our group.
15:11:35 <dcantrell> I don't do heights. Not getting in a hot air balloon, or bungee jumping, or rock climbing, or skydiving, or any of that type stuff. Everyone else can, I'll wait at the bar.
15:12:44 <jwf> dcantrell: Also helpful feedback!
15:12:44 <bcotton> extended outdoor activity might be a little unpleasant, climatologically speaking
15:12:45 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> There are things that are indoor-exclusive which (I think) wouldn't be much fun as compared to the outdoor ones, so I'd personally want to stay away from "Building Bridges", "Domino Effekt 2.0" etc.
15:13:06 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> Ben Cotton (he/him): Fair point.
15:13:32 <jwf> bcotton: Yeah, I was thinking that too. Something that might take us outside and periodically inside would be nice.
15:13:40 <jwf> The heat dome has left Europe now 🙂
15:13:42 <bcotton> average low is 30°F, high 40°F
15:13:57 <bcotton> of course, climatology is a poor predictor of a specific day :-)
15:14:31 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> If we have a choice of picking multiple activities, a blend of both indoor and outdoor activities should help suit all (read, most) preferences and climate conditions
15:14:34 <jwf> If there are no strong preferences for X or Y thing, I'll look at the list of options, compare prices, and book something with these requirements in mind. Of course, we could also split up into two different groups but it would be nice to do something together
15:15:21 <dcantrell> I think we should do something all together. That's sort of the point
15:15:38 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> dcantrell: Yep, exactly.
15:15:50 <bcotton> yeah, we're a good size for a single group activity
15:16:28 <jwf> I think I can work with these requirements 🙂
15:16:53 <jwf> If no other criteria, then I ask y'all to keep an eye on #fedora-council / #council:fedoraproject.org this week and I'll update there when I have something more concrete.
15:17:18 <bcotton> anything else before we move on?
15:17:24 <jwf> I don't think so.
15:17:30 <jwf> Other than, while I have your attention…
15:17:37 <jwf> Feedback and input here is most welcome: https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/planning-the-2023-council-hackfest-agenda/45719
15:18:41 <jwf> I have something else about the hackfest though, just a slight deviation from the fun activity. The Frankfurt office manager reached out to me and asked if needed any supplies or setups for the hackfest. Other than basic writing supplies, maybe some sticky notes, I can't think of much else off the top of my head
15:19:05 <jwf> This can also happen async, but let me know if we have any specific needs so I can coordinate in advance 🙂
15:19:41 <bcotton> maybe those easel notepads? makes it easier to come back to things vs a whiteboard
15:19:52 <bcotton> (assuming they have some)
15:19:56 <jwf> bcotton: Ah yeah
15:19:59 <dcantrell> yeah, I was just about to say big easel paper
15:20:02 <jwf> I can definitely ask
15:20:06 <dcantrell> but I'd also like whiteboard markers
15:20:09 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> jwf: I think of IT supplies like projectors, supplies for them etc.
15:20:09 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> But if it's a meeting room, chances are that they are already there...
15:20:13 <dcantrell> assuming the room has whiteboards
15:20:24 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> Better explicitly stated than assumed, I guess
15:22:13 <bcotton> last call for anything else…else
15:22:16 <jwf> I just made the ask 👍️
15:22:28 <jwf> bcotton: I'm satisfied! Thanks for the quick inputs here.
15:22:35 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> Just that and nothing else from my end ;)
15:23:10 <bcotton> #topic Open ticket review
15:23:10 <bcotton> #link https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/council-docs/issues?status=Open&order_key=last_updated&order=asc
15:23:37 <bcotton> I figured we'd start with the docs issues because they are often forgotten
15:23:48 <bcotton> (as evidenced by the "Modified 2 years ago") :-(
15:24:42 <jwf> Docs are good.
15:25:07 <bcotton> but! we will have someone to help with some of these through Red Hat's internal gigs program. they'll be working in the community in February to help with some of the Council docs (specifically around editions, but with space to expand the scope as time allows)
15:25:28 <bcotton> so the question here, i think is: is there anything on this list that's no longer valid or that we would want to handle separately?
15:27:29 <jwf> I still feel strongly about the four I've opened 😅
15:28:32 <bcotton> #43 is essentially the core deliverable of the internal gig
15:28:34 <jwf> None of them feel unimportant to me, per se.
15:28:41 <bcotton> so that's 25% right there!
15:29:01 <jwf> Yeah, the Editions will be soooo nice. I'm glad that we will have someone coming on to help us with that one 🙂
15:29:09 <jwf> bcotton++ for PgM'ing that one.
15:29:56 <bcotton> i have a vague recollection that we decided at some point that if people didn't provide their own biography that i could invent one for them
15:30:16 <bcotton> so i'll give bookwar a little longer to take care of #165 and then i'll do it :-)
15:31:26 <jwf> I really need to get something up for #84
15:32:09 <bcotton> you're following the grand tradition of "i'll write that soon" that I established for that ticket
15:32:58 <bcotton> ooh, looks like #113 was fxied, though
15:33:16 <bcotton> #info council-docs#113 is fixed
15:33:23 <bcotton> #link https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/council-docs/c/9af7e1058848a431ff71b744f9aa599a08518fe6?branch=main
15:33:27 <bcotton> objections to closing that?
15:34:14 <jwf> Seems fine to me. wcozens++
15:34:14 <zodbot> jwf: Karma for wcozens changed to 1 (for the current release cycle): https://badges.fedoraproject.org/tags/cookie/any
15:34:55 <bcotton> wcozens++
15:34:55 <zodbot> bcotton: Karma for wcozens changed to 2 (for the current release cycle): https://badges.fedoraproject.org/tags/cookie/any
15:35:04 <jwf> Although, it is _about_ to become outdated with the forthcoming migration of Ask -> Discussion
15:35:05 <bcotton> anything else we can address immediately?
15:35:16 <jwf> bcotton: I don't think so?
15:36:52 <bcotton> okay, tickettickets then
15:36:52 <bcotton> #link https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issues?status=Open&order_key=last_updated&order=asc
15:38:06 <bcotton> for #410, Fontana never replied to the concerns in the Discussion thread or the ticket ping, so I suggest closing that as stale
15:38:25 <bcotton> or deferred, or whatever i said 13 days ago
15:39:57 <jwf> Deferred seems fair to me. I don't think the Council can advance this without counter-points to what was discussed by Richard.
15:40:40 <jwf> * Deferred seems fair to me. I don't think the Council can advance this without counter-points by Richard to what was discussed.
15:41:41 <bcotton> what else can we take care of? some of these are clearly in progress or are...not really ticketable
15:41:57 <jwf> Although, I certainly would like to see the stamping-out of the use of "CLA" anywhere that appears, because what we have is most certainly not what most people think of when they think of CLAs
15:42:12 <bcotton> agreed
15:42:14 <jwf> But I don't have capacity right now to do that work :P
15:42:20 <bcotton> but #391 and #392 were waiting on our updated CoC which took approximately 30 years, but i think they're unblocked now, yeah?
15:43:20 <jwf> bcotton: Yeah… I don't see much here that needs a vote or a decision, just things that need actions.
15:43:21 <dcantrell> bcotton: I think it took longer
15:43:50 <jwf> bcotton: #391 is definitely moving and will tie into one of the proposed hackfest agenda topics, re: CoC Committee
15:44:06 <jwf> I saw movement on #392 before the holiday, but not sure where that sits exactly right now
15:47:09 <bcotton> okay. so it sounds like we should just move on for now?
15:48:06 <bcotton> does #411 rise to the level of Council Hackfest topic or is it just a "someone needs to write a draft proposal and then we vote on it"?
15:49:10 <bcotton> or does it go on the pile of "good ideas we'll never get around to"?
15:50:08 <jwf> bcotton: Important topic. But I think we need Legal input on this too?
15:50:13 <jwf> Seems relevant to this one, actually: https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/council-docs/issue/84
15:50:38 <jwf> Given that this isn't exactly a legal doc that would be written, but more an affirmation of Fedora's values and commitment to Free Software
15:51:28 <bcotton> why would we need legal input on it? it's, as you said, not a legal doc
15:51:37 <jwf> And why this is important to us (our place in the FOSS/Linux world)
15:51:53 <bcotton> (i agree that it's related to council-docs#84 though)
15:52:57 <jwf> Yeah, I sort of walk that back now that I actually read more of the past context
15:53:07 <jwf> I guess it doesn't.
15:53:09 <jwf> But I do think we could roll it into that Docs ticket. Those two tickets could be done at the same time.
15:53:34 <bcotton> makes sense. i'll cross-note that
15:53:48 * bcotton looks at the clock
15:53:56 <bcotton> anything else on open tickets?
15:54:19 <bcotton> #topic Next meeting

15:55:39 <bcotton> #topic Open floor
15:55:45 <bcotton> any last minute things?
15:56:26 <jwf> I will most likely not be at the next Council meeting.
15:56:44 <bcotton> hm. nor will I, probably (it's an e-learning day for my kids)
15:56:48 <jwf> Hopefully, I will be in Brussels.
15:57:29 <dcantrell> I'll be in Brussels
15:57:34 <dcantrell> probably? or on a plane
15:57:46 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> Ditto. On my way to Brussels.
15:57:50 <AkashdeepDhar[m7> On 1st
15:57:57 <bcotton> ah yeah, good point. i'll include a proposal to cancel the next meeting
15:57:57 <jwf> I know Akashdeep Dhar and Sumantro Mukherjee would also both be getting ready to transit or in transit
15:57:58 <bcotton> ...in the summary
15:58:01 <jwf> AkashdeepDhar[m7: Yup!
15:58:15 <jwf> Ben Cotton (he/him): Sounds like a good plan.
15:58:17 <bcotton> okay, let's just go ahead and call it cancelled then :-)
15:58:37 <bcotton> #info Actually, the 1 February meeting is cancelled because people will be in transit to FOSDEM
15:59:34 <bcotton> okay, i think that's all we have time for today
15:59:36 <jwf> I'm excited to see y'all! Even before Council times, it's been a long while for a lot of y'all :D
15:59:37 <bcotton> thanks everyone!
