12:01:39 <cverna> hello
12:01:41 <cverna> o/
12:02:14 * asamalik is on a tram to an appointment, needs to skip the meeting today :(
12:02:41 <stickster> no worries asamalik -- I was about to announce same :-)
12:03:01 <ryanlerch> .hello ryanlerch
12:03:04 <zodbot> ryanlerch: ryanlerch 'Ryan Lerch' <rlerch@redhat.com>
12:05:01 <stickster> Okey dokey, I guess we'll get started then :-)
12:05:01 <ryanlerch> stickster: no meeting?
12:05:31 <stickster> yes yes meeting! ALL THE MEETINGS :-D
12:05:58 <stickster> #topic Last week's stats
12:05:59 <cverna> moar meetings
12:06:27 <stickster> #info Week of July 22: just over 78K pageviews, significantly up from usual
12:07:00 <stickster> The CoreOS announcement did spectacularly well, no doubt due to Reddit and Ycombinator links
12:07:27 <stickster> #idea Submit suitable articles to Reddit and HackerNews in the future to help grab eyeballs
12:07:27 <ryanlerch> nice!
12:07:56 <SpyTec13> Reddit already has u/fedobot which posts new magazine articles to r/fedora
12:08:02 <stickster> Aha
12:08:08 <cverna> yeah July will be a pretty decent month in terms of stats :-)
12:08:08 <stickster> #chair SpyTec13
12:08:08 <zodbot> Current chairs: SpyTec13 asamalik cverna gregbartholomew ryanlerch stickster
12:08:27 <ryanlerch> i sometimes post select posts to r/linux/
12:08:36 <ryanlerch> but not everything...
12:08:41 <stickster> #info July is already over 316K pageviews, not bad
12:09:14 <stickster> Yeah, not everything would make a splash there, I think
12:09:27 <stickster> OK, anything more on stats or driving traffic?
12:09:52 * stickster looks to see if misc is around
12:09:57 <sub_pop> .hello2 linkdupont
12:10:00 <zodbot> sub_pop: Sorry, but you don't exist
12:10:11 <stickster> that's just rude zodbot
12:10:12 * sub_pop cries
12:10:23 <stickster> You want .hello probably
12:10:35 <sub_pop> .hello linkdupont
12:10:36 <zodbot> sub_pop: linkdupont 'Link Dupont' <link@sub-pop.net>
12:10:42 <sub_pop> I exist!
12:10:42 * cverna wonder if we should publish also on instragram
12:10:52 <stickster> cverna: o_O that's a good idea
12:10:58 <cverna> there is a Fedora account there but it is not really active
12:11:41 <stickster> I'll ask bkp what he can do there
12:11:50 <cverna> :-)
12:12:09 <ryanlerch> instagrem is tough also, since you cant put links in posts
12:12:32 <stickster> ryanlerch: Yeah, although we could put a link to the Magazine in the profile description
12:12:42 <ryanlerch> stickster: +1
12:13:24 <stickster> #action stickster seek bkp info on Fedora instagram account
12:13:25 <cverna> ha did not know that you could not put links :(
12:14:02 <stickster> Anything else on stats or driving traffic?
12:14:26 <cverna> not on my side
12:14:32 <stickster> OK then, we interrupt our normal flow for a special topic
12:14:38 <stickster> #topic Magazine migration to WP Engine
12:16:10 <ryanlerch> it went pretty smoothly IMHO
12:16:11 * bcotton slips into the back of the room
12:16:12 <stickster> So... this kinda just happened without much notice. Fortunately it went fairly well, except for a very few cases where specific content that changed between one sync and the next didn't come over as expected. The problems seemed to happen between July 24/25/26 and I think misc was able to repair a little of it.
12:16:17 <stickster> #chair bconoboy_
12:16:17 <zodbot> Current chairs: SpyTec13 asamalik bconoboy_ cverna gregbartholomew ryanlerch stickster
12:16:20 <stickster> #undo
12:16:20 <zodbot> Removing item from minutes: <MeetBot.items.Topic object at 0x7f6d486d4650>
12:16:23 <stickster> oops, sorry Brendann
12:16:27 <stickster> #chair bcotton
12:16:27 <zodbot> Current chairs: SpyTec13 asamalik bconoboy_ bcotton cverna gregbartholomew ryanlerch stickster
12:16:38 * misc still didn't wrote the RCA due to another RCA popping
12:16:39 <stickster> #topic Magazine migration to WP Engine
12:16:40 <bcotton> one bc is as good as another :-)
12:16:45 <stickster> #unchair bconoboy_
12:16:45 <zodbot> Current chairs: SpyTec13 asamalik bcotton cverna gregbartholomew ryanlerch stickster
12:16:59 <cverna> misc++
12:16:59 <zodbot> cverna: Karma for misc changed to 4 (for the current release cycle): https://badges.fedoraproject.org/tags/cookie/any
12:17:10 <stickster> misc++
12:17:14 <stickster> First and most importantly, COOKIES
12:17:41 <ryanlerch> misc++
12:17:51 <cverna> I think it is nice that we move to WP Engine and migration went smoothly as ryanlerch mentioned
12:17:53 <bcotton> misc++ even though i've already given him cookies
12:17:59 <stickster> misc: ryanlerch noticed that many internal links went from https://fm.o -> https://fm.wpengine.com or something like that
12:18:25 <gregbartholomew> misc++
12:18:33 <misc> stickster: oh, that's a bug to correct, I an take a look
12:18:33 <stickster> We should probably repair that because the latter keeps the link thumbnails in the article from working properly
12:19:29 <misc> can I have one example of such a link ?
12:19:44 <ryanlerch> those links are not tagged up as links in the ediort either, you just paste the link text, and wordpress inserts the card
12:20:39 <ryanlerch> #link https://lists.fedorahosted.org/archives/list/magazine@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/2D44QAWFUFW6W3YWH7GBDLMHJFYITY7K/
12:20:46 <ryanlerch> misc ^^
12:21:15 <ryanlerch> note i said they are not rendered as links, but they in fact are
12:21:35 <ryanlerch> it's just that they are not links in the editor itself
12:21:35 <misc> ok, let me see
12:22:03 <ryanlerch> the gnome recipies one is the one i fixed
12:24:07 <ryanlerch> i can manually go through an edit posts, just thought there might be a way to do it quicker :D
12:24:09 <misc> seems that wordpress did try to be helpful and fixed some link at import
12:24:36 <misc> ryanlerch: I can try to do a mysql query once I find what happened
12:25:13 <stickster> misc: FWIW https://stackoverflow.com/questions/125230/mysql-search-and-replace-some-text-in-a-field
12:25:20 <stickster> ^ in case it helps
12:25:41 <stickster> #action misc investigate and fix the "changed link" issue for internal links
12:26:15 <stickster> Also, FYI editors... by default WP Engine has post revisions turned off. However they do allow up to 5 by request, and misc was going to get that fixed for us too.
12:26:41 <misc> s/misc/jbrooks/ :p
12:26:50 <stickster> Oops, sorry mic, thanks :-)
12:26:54 <stickster> *misc
12:27:14 <misc> (I would have done, but I am not sure I have access to the support)
12:27:28 <stickster> #info If you notice anything squirrelly on the new instance, please report it to the list!
12:27:45 <stickster> OK, we need to move on so we can get publishing figured out for Flock week

12:29:05 <stickster> ryanlerch: ^ seems this one is probably ready to go?
12:29:46 <ryanlerch> hmmm, this one was posted...
12:29:53 <ryanlerch> i thought it was, anyways
12:30:31 <stickster> Oh weird, it is ryanlerch .. https://fedoramagazine.org/firefox-68-available-now-in-fedora/
12:30:36 <stickster> Maybe this is a dupe of some sort?
12:30:56 <gregbartholomew> One of my articles "dupped" due to a title change.
12:31:21 <misc> mhh, could be a side effect of the migration
12:31:38 <stickster> Hm, maybe. I'll trash this extra one.
12:32:28 <stickster> #info --- Fridays with infra ---
12:33:22 <stickster> is zlopez / mkonecny around?
12:33:30 <pingou> I just pinged him
12:33:36 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=29057&preview=1&_ppp=159d138dbc
12:34:46 <stickster> Since we need to make haste, here's a summary... This is an effort by the Fedora Infra team to help onboard contributors who are able/willing to take up maintenance of apps that don't fit the CPE team's mission and otherwise won't get the time they might need
12:35:16 <stickster> Arguably this might reach more people in the Magazine but the audience is probably not the right one for this vs. comm-blog
12:35:59 <cverna> I was thinking maybe we can make use of the socials to promote the article on the comm-blog
12:36:00 <ryanlerch> yeah, i have to agree with commblog for thsoi one
12:36:34 <stickster> cverna++ agreed -- we could use some hashtags to get it in front of a more useful audience
12:36:48 <bcotton> speaking as the commblog editor-in-chief, i agree
12:37:17 <bcotton> although commblog has a much smaller audience here, so if there's some way we can have a magazine article about commblog at some point, i'd be okay with that :p
12:37:26 <stickster> OK, we can discuss more with mkonecny on #fedora-magazine if needed, but it sounds like people are agreed
12:38:21 <cverna> bcotton : maybe an article to talk about the community behind Fedora and then introduce the commblog and other stuff
12:38:30 <stickster> bcotton++ I think we've invited that in the past but it didn't get done -- seems reasonable to me and makes more sense, yeah
12:38:55 <stickster> #agreed move Friday with infra post to comm-blog and Magazine editors will help get targeted socials out for it
12:40:06 <stickster> #topic Drafts to review
12:40:12 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=post
12:40:20 <stickster> #info --- bpftrace ---
12:40:28 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=29015&preview=1&_ppp=0cdc7538b1
12:40:39 <stickster> ^ Note, this is the most recently edited one and should be correct
12:41:12 <cverna> +1
12:41:16 <jlanda> That could fi very well next to an announcement of that portal that jskladan has scheduled for flock
12:41:26 <jlanda> s/fi/fit
12:42:50 <stickster> jlanda: Are you suggesting we hold this article until Flock? Or just that it would be helpful to have it published by then?
12:43:25 <jlanda> I just suggest that https://pagure.io/flock/issue/176 + communityblog could combine well :)
12:43:44 <jlanda> For an magazine article or whatever
12:43:52 <stickster> Oh, the previous topic -- got it.
12:44:06 <jlanda> Yeah, I'm bit laggy, sorry =)
12:44:45 <stickster> I think this bpftrace article *might* be finished
12:44:53 <stickster> #action stickster ping acaringi to see if bpftrace is ready
12:45:23 <stickster> Let's move to the next for the moment
12:46:45 <gregbartholomew> this looks like a great one for hackernews
12:46:58 <stickster> #info --- drop down terminals ---
12:47:05 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=28871&preview=1&_ppp=22c4a65670
12:47:16 <stickster> I think this one is probably done, also checking with author
12:47:43 <stickster> *sigh, unclear status makes this harder than necessary
12:48:05 <stickster> gregbartholomew: agreed!
12:48:17 <stickster> Let's go to something where we can get clear info for sure :-)
12:48:22 <stickster> #info --- Postfix on your computer ---
12:48:36 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=29016&preview=1&_ppp=c6502cd90e
12:48:46 <stickster> gregbartholomew: talk to us goose
12:49:08 <gregbartholomew> nothing special here
12:49:24 <gregbartholomew> tried to do it as a simple 1, 2, 3.
12:49:39 <gregbartholomew> This is the first time that I actually set this up with Postfix.
12:50:11 <gregbartholomew> I think stickster said that he had more experience with Postfix, so if you have any suggestions for improvements, they are welcome.
12:52:06 <stickster> But this looks basically complete AFAICT gregbartholomew... nice work
12:52:24 <gregbartholomew> Thanks, I'm ready to had it over to you.
12:52:28 <ryanlerch> gregbartholomew++
12:52:33 <stickster> As promised, I'll edit!
12:52:40 <stickster> #action stickster edit and image for postfix article
12:52:49 <gregbartholomew> As I said, feel free to edit it liberally as you may know tricks that I do not.
12:53:15 <stickster> #info --- 4 COPR for August ---
12:53:25 <stickster> gregbartholomew++
12:53:31 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=29068&preview=1&_ppp=f9ead28d5e
12:54:10 <stickster> This looks like it's ready to go as well!
12:54:38 <stickster> #action ryanlerch edit and schedule COPR post
12:54:39 <ryanlerch> stickster: i can run an editorial eye over this onew
12:54:46 <ryanlerch> LOL
12:54:47 <stickster> *jinx
12:54:53 * ryanlerch types too slow
12:54:55 * stickster just going for it because of time constraint :-)
12:55:25 <stickster> My bet is that both the drop-down terminals and the bpftrace articles will be ready to go by next week
12:55:52 <stickster> bcotton: any chance you want to take over writing the contributing/comm-blog advertisement article?
12:56:21 <stickster> #topic --- Publishing schedule ---
12:56:32 <bcotton> stickster: sure, just don't get your hopes up that it will happen quickly :-)
12:57:39 <stickster> I can take the bpftrace article edit (nothing brewing this weekend) if someone can take the drop down terminals one.
12:58:44 <stickster> shoot, I could do both seeing as how my Sunday is free
12:59:00 <stickster> #proposed #agreed Fri Aug 2, Postfix (stickster) -- Mon Aug 5, COPR (ryanlerch) -- Wed Aug 7, bpftrace (stickster) -- Fri Aug 9, drop-down terminals (stickster?) -- Mon Aug 12, TBD
12:59:10 <stickster> If we can find one more article for Mon 12th, we are free and clear from Flock
12:59:49 <stickster> ryanlerch: cverna: *: ^ look OK? Just trying to get clear for Flock (and get to my next meeting) ;-)
12:59:58 <ryanlerch> +10
13:00:16 <gregbartholomew> +20
13:00:40 <stickster> #agreed Fri Aug 2, Postfix (stickster) -- Mon Aug 5, COPR (ryanlerch) -- Wed Aug 7, bpftrace (stickster) -- Fri Aug 9, drop-down terminals (stickster?) -- Mon Aug 12, TBD
13:00:50 <stickster> OK, and with that, we're out of here. Thanks for coming everyone :-)
13:00:53 <stickster> #endmeeting
