20:02:53 <stickster> Hi all! Sorry for late start, bunch of deadlines here.
20:03:04 <ryanlerch> .hello ryanlerch
20:03:05 <zodbot> ryanlerch: ryanlerch 'Ryan Lerch' <rlerch@redhat.com>
20:03:13 <stickster> First, big thanks to asamalik for getting this morning's post pushed out
20:03:31 <jakfrost> asamalik +1
20:03:53 <gregbartholomew_> asamalik +1
20:04:03 <ryanlerch> asamalik++
20:04:09 <stickster> #topic Last week stats
20:04:38 <stickster> #info Week of April 1: 77.3K pageviews, up significantly from previous week 63K
20:04:59 <stickster> I'm guessing the Beta didn't hurt ;-)
20:05:12 <ryanlerch> stickster: :D
20:05:56 <stickster> #info March 2019 - over 295K pageviews, not too shabby either
20:06:35 <stickster> By far the best March ever, almost 16% up YoY
20:07:12 <stickster> Anything else on stats/views before we move on?
20:07:22 <ryanlerch> nothing here...
20:07:37 <stickster> We interrupt this agenda to bring you...
20:07:43 <stickster> #topic Social network access
20:08:06 <stickster> Who here has access to post on the Fedora Facebook page and Twitter-via-Tweetdeck?
20:08:13 <jakfrost> Not me
20:08:16 * ryanlerch puts his hand up
20:09:39 <stickster> We can ask bproffitt (bkp) about extending that access if needed. It's important we get each post out via social networks too
20:09:52 <stickster> I'll do some catch-up posts this week for existing articles
20:10:05 <stickster> It'd be GRAND if we could do that automagically via a plugin.
20:10:37 <stickster> However, I don't think it's possible without sharing one's own credentials with the WP instance (yuck)
20:11:52 <stickster> #action stickster email bkp to see about extending social network access
20:12:01 <stickster> moving on then, since no one had comments... ;-)
20:12:18 <stickster> #topic Pending review posts
20:12:22 <ryanlerch> stickster: back in the day when we first setup wordpress, i could never get iot working wither
20:12:28 <stickster> yeah
20:12:32 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=pending
20:13:26 <stickster> you'd need a more robust system like using a secret API key; I haven't seen a plugin like that but I haven't looked hard either
20:13:29 <stickster> anyway
20:13:38 <stickster> #info --- How do you Fedora? ---
20:13:44 <sdgathman> I get a certificate error when connecting to fedoramagazine.org
20:13:51 <sdgathman> Starting today
20:13:58 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=27043&preview=1&_ppp=fc778750cc
20:14:08 <stickster> Not seeing that here, sdgathman
20:14:15 <sdgathman> Just fixed itself.
20:14:22 <sdgathman> Sorry...
20:14:24 <stickster> np
20:14:37 <stickster> certificate shows valid to 2020-05
20:14:53 <stickster> I can take an edit on this one and push Friday
20:15:16 <jakfrost> Go stickster!
20:15:19 <stickster> #action stickster edit newest HDYF article and publish 2019-04-12
20:15:30 <ryanlerch> stickster++
20:15:38 <ryanlerch> this one looks like a good one!
20:16:18 <stickster> Indeed!
20:16:28 <stickster> #topic Drafts to review
20:16:30 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&orderby=date&order=desc
20:17:00 <stickster> note, COPR article is just a shell, not ready to look at
20:17:35 <stickster> gregbartholomew_: EXCELLENT article on mdadm sir
20:18:15 <gregbartholomew_> I suspect this one is what you've been asking for as a "primer" in previous meetings.
20:18:27 <stickster> gregbartholomew_: just what the doctor ordered!
20:19:10 <gregbartholomew_> I think it is good to go, although the last paragraph might be a bit too corny. Was hoping to get an editor's opinion?
20:20:41 <gregbartholomew_> The subsequent article on how to do the conversion is almost ready. It works fine with BIOS-based systems, but I was having a little trouble on UEFI-based systems during testing. I haven't worked out the problem yet, but I suspect it is something trivial that I will figure out shortly.
20:21:40 <stickster> Sure. UEFI is way more prevalent, so take your time
20:21:59 <stickster> (at least nowadays)
20:22:12 <stickster> gregbartholomew_++
20:22:21 <stickster> gregbartholomew++
20:22:25 <stickster> OK, I tried :-D
20:22:34 <gregbartholomew_> I suspect there are a lot of home users still running linux on BIOS-based systems too though.
20:22:35 <stickster> 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪
20:22:58 <stickster> Perhaps? Everything I've bought in the last 6 years was UEFI I think
20:23:11 <stickster> in any case, good to get it right for both
20:23:20 <gregbartholomew_> Yeah, not sure what is with the underscore on my account. Something to due with ZNC I suspect.
20:23:21 <stickster> people love to run Linux on old stuff
20:23:49 <pjones> basically nothing new in terms of "client" systems has been BIOS by default since the end of 2012
20:23:56 <pjones> but lots of motherboards are
20:23:57 <stickster> sounds about right
20:24:35 <stickster> jakfrost: Do you want to do an edit for this one?
20:24:44 <jakfrost> Sure, can do
20:24:45 <stickster> and... I'll tag asamalik with the image
20:24:50 <stickster> if he's up for it ;-)
20:25:01 <stickster> #action jakfrost edit the mdadm primer article
20:25:23 <jakfrost> stickster: publishing?
20:25:28 <stickster> Oh wait, is asamalik around?
20:25:34 <jakfrost> Not today
20:25:50 <stickster> jakfrost: I was thinking we might wait until Wed Apr 17 for the mdadm one
20:25:55 <ryanlerch> i can do the image!
20:25:59 <stickster> spread out authorship a bit
20:26:03 <jakfrost> Okay sounds good
20:26:05 <stickster> #action ryanlerch do image for mdadm article
20:26:24 <stickster> #info --- K3s on Fedora IoT ---
20:26:42 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=25824&preview=1&_ppp=837d26e2cf
20:27:07 <stickster> Wow, this also looks great. It's a bit long, but again, some procedures demand it as we've seen with glb's articles
20:27:56 <stickster> There doesn't seem to be any place to separate part1/2 style -- no matter, sometimes you just can't do it
20:28:16 <stickster> ryanlerch: Do you want to edit/image for Monday?
20:28:28 <ryanlerch> stickster: for sure!
20:28:35 <stickster> sdgathman: are you interested to edit at all?
20:29:06 <stickster> I don't want to pass anyone up for getting involved... and don't be afraid to yell at me if you want to pick up something else, like an image :-)
20:30:55 <sdgathman> stickster: I will write an article on "decentralize electronic business documents with openas2" when I finally get taxes squared away.
20:31:12 <stickster> that sounds like a humdinger :-)
20:31:16 <stickster> OK then...
20:31:35 <stickster> #action ryanlerch edit/image/schedule K3s on Fedora IoT article for Monday Apr 15
20:32:03 <stickster> #info --- FFSend ---
20:32:14 <sdgathman> I am getting invalid cert on every 3rd refresh of fedora magazine site - so something weird is going on...
20:33:26 <stickster> sdgathman: Sounds like a frontend proxy problem
20:34:11 <stickster> I emptied the cache on WP but not sure it will affect anything.
20:34:22 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=25821&preview=1&_ppp=b5ece44cfd
20:34:35 <stickster> This is a shorter but relatively complete article I think.
20:34:51 <jakfrost> Looks pretty good to me
20:36:14 <stickster> It's not much to do, so I can take edit/image on this one
20:36:28 <stickster> #action stickster edit/image for FFSend article for Fri 2019-Apr-19
20:37:30 <stickster> #info --- converted video to DVD on Fedora ---
20:37:50 <stickster> I'm not going to put a public link on this one for reasons that might or might not be obvious
20:38:47 <stickster> I wanted to cover it, though, to spread awareness... even though this may use all open source software, it also involves using patent encumbered software, which we can't advise people in some territories to use (such as USA). So we can't go forward with this one
20:39:16 <jakfrost> stickster: I was wondering that
20:39:20 <ryanlerch> stickster++
20:39:43 <stickster> It might seem counter-intuitive, but we can cover non-FOSS that runs on Linux because it's not illicit. Them's the breaks 😢
20:39:45 <ryanlerch> sadly, but we have a precedent here on not covering this stuff
20:39:51 <gregbartholomew_> I thought I heard something about the DVD encoding patent expiring recently thought; one of them anyway.
20:40:22 <gregbartholomew_> s/thought/though/
20:40:30 <jakfrost> glb: it makes sense, pretty old tech
20:40:36 <stickster> I don't know the state of each of them, but I know enough are still valid that it doesn't matter :-\
20:41:24 <ryanlerch> gregbartholomew_: we probably still cant write about it til legal covers it (and we include the packages in the repos)
20:41:39 <gregbartholomew_> makes sense
20:41:39 <stickster> I tried to put an editorial comment in but I can't tell whether it sent anything.
20:42:15 <stickster> The WP instance said something to the effect that no recipients were included, so it seemed like that may not be working right.
20:42:34 <stickster> #action stickster email DVD article author to advise on status
20:42:45 <stickster> #action stickster see if plugin for edit-flow is updated properly
20:46:07 <stickster> I guess we can see if there are pitches in here
20:46:35 <stickster> ryanlerch: jakfrost: anyone: Did you guys approve the Workstation/Silverblue shell tuning article last week.
20:46:40 <stickster> s/\./?/
20:47:06 <jakfrost> Not that I am aware of
20:47:16 <stickster> In that case...
20:47:18 <stickster> #topic Pitches to review
20:47:29 <stickster> #info --- Tuning shell on WS/SB ---
20:47:31 <stickster> #link https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=26993&preview=1&_ppp=2040644edc
20:48:10 <jakfrost> Not really any content here yet
20:48:33 <stickster> There are two links there that have content in them -- they look brief but pretty compelling
20:48:41 <stickster> e.g. https://hhlp.fedorapeople.org/Join/bash/bash.pdf
20:49:56 <jakfrost> Dudes writing a manual
20:50:22 <stickster> I can tell the English/narrative will need editing, but the content looks not bad
20:50:53 <stickster> jakfrost: *nod, it could be just he overused the outline form for a short article, or it could mean an article that was way too long
20:51:06 <stickster> it feels like we should give it a shot, i.e. do *one* of them and let's see how it goes
20:51:31 <jakfrost> I agree, since the interest came from the Borg article apparently
20:53:21 <stickster> jakfrost: Do you want to email the author + list and get them up and going?
20:53:36 <jakfrost> Yeah I can do that for sure
20:53:52 <stickster> #action jakfrost email pitch author for shell tuning and get them into drafting
20:54:11 <stickster> I think that's it -- glb already told us his status so we're good
20:54:16 <stickster> #chair
20:54:16 <zodbot> Current chairs: asamalik gregbartholomew_ jakfrost ryanlerch stickster
20:54:27 <jakfrost> I'm good
20:54:31 <stickster> let's get schedule approved and we're good to go
20:55:38 <stickster> #proposed #agreed Fri Apr 12: HDYF (stickster) -- Mon Apr 15: K3s (ryanlerch) -- Wed Apr 17: mdadm (jakfrost edit, ryanlerch image) -- Fri Apr 19: FFSend (stickster)
20:55:41 <stickster> oops
20:55:46 <stickster> #topic Publishing schedule!
20:55:55 <stickster> I'm +1 obviously ;-D
20:56:22 <stickster> ryanlerch: gregbartholomew_: anyone else: ^^
20:56:29 <ryanlerch> +1 from me
20:56:32 <gregbartholomew_> +1
20:56:35 <jakfrost> +1
20:58:02 <stickster> #agreed Fri Apr 12: HDYF (stickster) -- Mon Apr 15: K3s (ryanlerch) -- Wed Apr 17: mdadm (jakfrost edit, ryanlerch image) -- Fri Apr 19: FFSend (stickster)
