21:00:29 <stickster> o/ ryan!
21:00:31 <ryanlerch> good morning!
21:01:15 * stickster needs 1 min for quick afk, back in a jiffy
21:01:16 <ryanlerch> stickster: i was thinking i might do a quick post this morning pointing to mizmo 's post about flock on the commblog
21:02:51 <stickster> ryanlerch: sure, we had https://fedoramagazine.org/flock-2017-registration-submissions-open/ but no reason not to remind folks
21:03:36 <stickster> ryanlerch: if it's just you and me here today, no reason to be all formal, let's just free-form it and fill out the schedule
21:03:47 <ryanlerch> stickster: sounds good
21:04:07 <stickster> #action ryanlerch do quick pointer article to mizmo commblog post
21:04:13 <ryanlerch> i had a couple of ideas for posts this week too
21:04:29 <stickster> #info stickster also has his post on AltTab ready except for image, will complete that right after meeting
21:04:55 <ryanlerch> stickster: are you doing th eimage, of want me to do it today?
21:05:40 <ryanlerch> oh, me should read the whole mesage there, lol sorry
21:06:03 <stickster> lol np
21:06:58 <stickster> OK, so on rest of schedule...
21:07:04 <stickster> #topic Filling out the publishing schedule
21:07:26 <stickster> #info cprofitt noted he had a couple more HDYF's in the pipeline, but not sure they will deliver next week
21:08:00 <stickster> Hey, looks like Kumar Praveen may have finished a Minishift article
21:08:05 <stickster> That would be *awesome* to have next week
21:08:08 <ryanlerch> oh awesome!
21:08:39 <stickster> Needs technical test but the copy editing looks pretty easy, language looks darn good
21:08:58 <ryanlerch> stickster: ooh, monday maybe?
21:09:03 * stickster is going to have a very full weekend but can copy edit this for Monday
21:09:11 <stickster> yeah, I have some time tomorrow morning to work on this
21:09:22 <stickster> #action stickster copy edit Minishift aritcle for Monday June 12
21:09:25 <ryanlerch> we could make this wednesday...
21:09:41 <stickster> Nah, I can strike while the iron's hot
21:09:48 <ryanlerch> i had a idea for a new series that's not a series that i could do for monday
21:09:54 <stickster> oooo, do tell
21:10:02 <ryanlerch> just quick tips
21:10:17 <ryanlerch> things in workstation that work OOTB, but people might not know about
21:10:33 <ryanlerch> like the window 'tiling'
21:10:53 <ryanlerch> and the fact that calculator can be used in the overview to do quick calculations
21:11:35 <stickster> ha, cool
21:12:33 <ryanlerch> i could do the tiling one for wednesday
21:12:55 <stickster> ryanlerch: We'll also have the Beta announcement on Tuesday
21:13:07 <stickster> ryanlerch: That seems like a decent idea for Wednesday though
21:13:43 <ryanlerch> h, forgot about beta
21:14:00 <ryanlerch> has the go-no-go metting happened yet?
21:15:44 <stickster> ryanlerch: yes -- happened earlier and jkurik posted the results
21:15:51 <stickster> So we're definitely gold/good to go
21:15:57 <ryanlerch> awesome
21:16:21 * stickster is expecting that mattdm + x3mboy + marketing folks will complete the Beta announcement on the Magazine per usual
21:16:37 <stickster> ryanlerch: they may need an image if there's not one yet, but I didn't look yet to see if you did one already
21:16:52 <ryanlerch> okay, i can do that one up for dsure
21:17:00 <stickster> OK, I figured you could whip one up fast
21:17:13 <stickster> #action ryanlerch whip up F26 Beta announcement image for Tuesday's publication
21:17:57 <stickster> #action mattdm notify stickster when done with the article on Monday afternoon/Tuesday morning so he can push
21:18:00 <stickster> (if needed)
21:18:00 <ryanlerch> too easy!
21:18:10 <stickster> So for Friday...
21:18:24 * stickster checks the backlog
21:18:35 <ryanlerch> should we tentatively put down a HDYF, and then have a backup?
21:19:23 <stickster> ryanlerch: agreed -- totally open to having another interview! but a backup is smart
21:20:51 <stickster> ryanlerch: Jason Brooks put in a short article on Fedora Atomic Host lifecycle changes
21:20:51 <ryanlerch> subpop mentioned in the IRC channel that they had a skeleton of the games spin article done
21:20:57 <stickster> https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=17670&preview=true
21:21:03 <stickster> That's good for publishing any time
21:21:24 * stickster wonders if that might make a good tomorrow article, and I'll push my non-timed AltTab to next Friday (but I can still finish it tonight)
21:21:55 <stickster> So happy to get another contributor, I don't want to hold that spot rather than them
21:22:02 <stickster> ryanlerch: what do you think?
21:22:11 <ryanlerch> stickster: yeah, that sounds good to me
21:22:15 <stickster> needs a little copy edit just to shorten sentences and make it punchier but I can do that quickly
21:22:34 <ryanlerch> any the featured image is gtg too
21:22:45 <stickster> #agreed substitute Jason Brooks' Atomic Host lifecycle article tomorrow, schedule g-s-ext AltTab article for Friday June 16
21:22:54 <stickster> So I think we have our schedule:
21:24:03 <stickster> Fri June 9: Atomic Host lifecycle... Mon June 12: Minishift... Tue June 13: F26 Beta... Wed June 14: Workstation Quick Tip... Fri June 16: g-s-ext AltTab
21:24:17 <stickster> sound right?
21:24:52 <ryanlerch> sounds awesome. we can do the HDYF next week if we have too
21:25:03 <ryanlerch> oh, one thing
21:25:22 <stickster> #agreed Fri June 9: Atomic Host lifecycle (stickster quick edit)... Mon June 12: Minishift (stickster quick edit)... Tue June 13: F26 Beta (mattdm)... Wed June 14: Workstation Quick Tip (ryanlerch)... Fri June 16: HDYF (cproffitt) *OR* g-s-ext AltTab (stickster)
21:25:34 <stickster> sure
21:26:07 <ryanlerch> nevermind, thought we panned for the ansible on windows one for next week
21:26:13 <ryanlerch> but it was for the week after
21:26:29 <ryanlerch> jhogarth wanted it timed for anisblefest
21:26:58 <ryanlerch> so i think we are good to go
21:27:31 <stickster> Right -- around June 22nd I think, yeah?
21:28:01 <ryanlerch> yeah, just checked the posts, and the date is listed in the draft
21:28:09 <stickster> Cool... I'll get to work on my pieces quick, like starting with AH lifecycle article
21:28:19 <stickster> #topic All other business
21:28:48 <ryanlerch> i will also push the flock nesy post this morning too
21:29:14 <ryanlerch> *newsy
21:29:21 <stickster> +1
21:30:53 <stickster> Shall we adjourn then?
21:31:12 <ryanlerch> +1
21:31:30 <ryanlerch> thanks for chairing once again, stickster
21:31:31 <bebeki> Hi guys
21:31:41 <bebeki> I'm looking to become a new contributor
21:31:45 <bebeki> Is it okay to crash this meeting?
21:32:08 <stickster> bebeki: sure, go ahead
21:33:10 <bebeki> I've sent a couple pitches out on the mailing list. Not sure if they're no good or if I'm missing something.
21:34:04 <ryanlerch> hi Bertel!
21:34:48 <bebeki> Hi!
21:35:00 <ryanlerch> one of yours was the gThumb post, right?
21:35:38 <ryanlerch> this one has a +1 from me
21:36:27 <ryanlerch> also, feel free to throw your pitches into the magazine as pitches too. that is what we tend to review more closely during the meetings
21:36:45 <stickster> agreed -- and also +1 on gThumb from me too
21:37:09 <stickster> bebeki: and you're free to attend these meetings too... every week, same channel + time
21:37:22 <stickster> but you don't have to attend in order to write articles
21:37:31 <bebeki> Thanks!
21:38:01 <bebeki> Ah, I missed the part of the Fedora Magazine contributor doc that said I could sign in with my FAS account. I thought I needed to be given permission.
21:38:08 <ryanlerch> bebeki: we will likely have room for it the week after next, so feel free to start writing it, and we can see about scheduling at this meeting next week
21:38:21 <bebeki> k, will do!
21:38:29 <ryanlerch> bebeki: welcome!
21:38:32 <ryanlerch> :D
21:38:41 <stickster> bebeki++
21:38:42 <ryanlerch> keep the good ideas coming!
21:39:01 <bebeki> I sent out a second pitch about how I use Fedora to manage my professional life, which I will copy and paste into Wordpress now as a proper pitch
21:39:25 <stickster> I like that idea too -- bebeki, maybe this would be better as a "How Do You Fedora?" interview article
21:39:45 <stickster> we regularly feature those in the Magazine, where contributors talk about how they use Fedora for their jobs or hobbies
21:40:06 <stickster> rather than writing a new article, you could get in touch with cprofitt, who conducts those interviews
21:40:16 <stickster> I think he'd love to hear from you, always looking for new interview subjects
21:40:28 <bebeki> That's actually why I'm here. I applied to be interviewed, then I was sent the questions, and so many of them were about when I started contributing to Fedora. I got tired of writing "I haven't taken the time to figure out how yet," and now I'm here.
21:41:01 <bebeki> Since I make a living writing Wordpress posts, this seemed the area my skills were most useful. Though I'm also trying to figure out how I can contribute to Fedora Docs too.
21:41:33 <bebeki> Navigating my way in feels a little daunting at times since I don't already know someone involved with the project.
21:41:44 <stickster> Oh! That makes sense
21:42:50 <stickster> bebeki: no problem at all -- we can easily work with you on other articles
21:43:07 <stickster> As for daunting, don't be discouraged, now you know me and Ryan ;-)
21:43:51 <ryanlerch> bebeki:feel fee to just ping me on #fedora-magazine too
21:44:13 <ryanlerch> i'm in Australia, so timezones might be weird ;D
21:44:44 <bebeki> I'm still learning the ropes in IRC, is pinging just writing your name out before the message like you just did for me, or is there a private messaging mechanism?
21:45:07 <ryanlerch> bebeki: whoops! sorry!
21:45:52 <ryanlerch> yeah, just mentioning my name in a message in the room is what i meant
21:46:18 <ryanlerch> so my IRC client makes a pinging noise :)
21:46:21 <bebeki> We've used HipChat and Slack on the teams I've been part of, so a lot is similar, but it took me most of a day to figure out how to register a name on Freenode. ><
21:46:59 <bebeki> I also had a 1 year old tugging on my leg...
21:47:03 <bebeki> Anyways, thanks guys!
21:47:29 <stickster> this might help: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_use_IRC
21:47:31 <ryanlerch> bebeki: good to have you aboard!
21:47:37 <stickster> bebeki: ^ ditto
21:48:27 <bebeki> stickster: that link actually reminds me of another question
21:48:42 <bebeki> Are instructions for Hexchat generally transferrable to Polari?
21:49:08 <stickster> bebeki: The way you run the application itself is different, but many slash-commands are the same
21:49:33 <stickster> Like /away, /quit, /nic,
21:49:35 <stickster> er, /nick
21:49:40 <ryanlerch> bebeki: i think polari might not implement all the IRC slash commands yet, but generally, yes
21:49:50 <stickster> I haven't used Polari myself but I think they have some subset, right ryanlerch
21:50:19 <ryanlerch> yeah i tried it a while ago
21:50:45 <bebeki> I used HecChat to create my account, but I switched to Polari afterward just because I love to stick with GNOME 3 apps when I can, even if they're a little light on features (I actually use GNOME Web as my primary browser).
21:50:46 <ryanlerch> bebeki: feel free to ask too if you run into trouble, we are happy to hekp
21:50:51 <bebeki> HexChat*
21:51:40 <ryanlerch> IIRC, polari doesnt have built-in NickServ stuff like hexchat
21:52:16 <ryanlerch> so you need to Identify with NickServ on freenode with a command
21:52:19 <ryanlerch> i.e.
21:52:51 <ryanlerch> /msg NickServ identify <yourpassword>
21:53:51 <ryanlerch> every time you re-connect
21:54:18 <bebeki> Do I type that into the same input field I use to send messages to a chat channel?
21:54:33 <bebeki> Seems nerve-wracking.
21:56:22 <ryanlerch> stickster: we have moved to the magazine cahnnel, so i think we can close the meeting now!
21:56:49 <stickster> ryanlerch: okeydoke!
21:56:56 <stickster> Thanks for coming, everyone!
21:56:58 <stickster> #endmeeting
