01:08:40 * jflory7 nods
01:08:42 <kk4ewt> one of them the spring has broken
01:08:59 <jflory7> Ahh, yeah, so it is broken beyond repair?
01:09:19 <kk4ewt> i took it apart at olf the spring is broken in the middle
01:09:53 <jflory7> Ouch... that's disappointing.
01:10:14 <jflory7> Okay... so we're :10 after the hour. I guess we'll end early again this week from lack of quorum.

01:15:41 <jflory7> jsandys: Any updates to add here? Or are you still waiting to hear back from Andrew?

01:17:18 <zodbot> Current chairs: Juggler danofsatx jflory7 jsandys juggler_ kk4ewt masta
01:17:45 <jflory7> juggler__: It appears you're duplicating.
01:17:47 <juggler_> ty jflory7
01:17:59 <juggler_> (long boring story)
01:18:05 <jflory7> Heheh, no worries.
01:18:24 * jflory7 isn't sure if jsandys is at the keyboard right now
01:19:03 <jflory7> We can revisit this one later.

01:19:21 <jflory7> #info === Ticket #156 ===
01:19:25 <jflory7> .famnaticket 156
01:19:27 <zodbot> jflory7: #156 (WiCHacks @ RIT - 2017 Feb. 25-26) – FAmNA Trac - https://fedorahosted.org/famna/ticket/156
01:19:42 <jflory7> This is a new ticket for an event in February.
01:19:58 * masta likes
01:19:58 <jflory7> #info WiCHacks is an all-female hackathon from February 25-26, 2017. After talking with the lead coordinator, it would be possible for Fedora to organize an "open source" sponsorship at no cost to us (and we would provide people / content).
01:20:05 <jflory7> #link http://wichacks.rit.edu/
01:21:12 <jflory7> I was hoping to see if FAmNA would be interested in an event like this. I won't be in the US at the time of the event, but there are locals in the region (cprofitt and others) who could attend.
01:21:27 <jflory7> I would also like to reach out to Red Hat about seeing if we could coordinate on this event too.
01:21:36 <jflory7> The price for an actual sponsorship isn't too much either
01:21:53 <masta> reading the ticket, seems challenging to calculate a budget for this
01:22:37 <masta> yeah, reaching out to our benefactor would be good
01:23:06 <jflory7> masta: It does - I would be trying to do some outreach to Red Hat and potentially others for any costs that might come from this. However, I think we could have a presence without spending much (a virtual presence is also possible here). So if budget were to become a blocking factor, I'd rather try to spend as little as possible and have some kind of presence
01:23:10 * jflory7 nods
01:23:39 <jflory7> If there's positive interest in this, I can begin doing more research and reaching out to try have more information for a final cost
01:23:40 <juggler_> is there a wiki page outlining sample travel costs for participants? might help with budgeting...
01:23:42 <masta> even just stickers on a table would be fine
01:24:08 <jflory7> juggler_: I hadn't started a wiki page yet because I wanted to see if there was interest for it. I think I will go ahead and start putting this all together tonight.
01:24:11 <jflory7> masta: Agreed.
01:24:38 <juggler_> jflory7: sounds like a good plan and a potentially great event to support.
01:24:40 <jflory7> I don't know if there's a need to take a vote yet since it doesn't seem right to vote on a ticket without knowing a budget, but I will move forward with seeing what I can dig up.
01:24:58 <jflory7> Hopefully in coming weeks I will have a wiki page ready along with more definite numbers.
01:25:06 <masta> so for events like these in my area, I just do them without even notifying Fedora... or any meeting drama
01:25:29 <juggler_> *gasp* :)
01:25:31 <jflory7> #action jflory7 Create a wiki page for WiCHacks, reach out to others about partnering on a sponsorship for this event
01:25:45 <masta> if we have an ambassador in the RIT ~ area, just go and drop swag
01:26:19 <jflory7> masta: Heh, yeah, I think I would have opted for that but we may need to send some people for travel costs / may coordinate on an actual sponsorship with RH, so I wanted to bring it up anyways to keep everyone on the same page.
01:26:44 <masta> jflory7, ok, well at least now it's on the radar
01:27:00 <jflory7> cprofitt is definitely a local, but I was hoping we could try to send a Fedora woman to this event too (I think there might be some in the region who may be interested). Will dig deeper...
01:27:19 <jflory7> #info === Ticket #157 ===
01:27:23 <jflory7> .famnaticket 157
01:27:24 <zodbot> jflory7: #157 (BrickHack @ RIT - 2017 Feb. 11-12) – FAmNA Trac - https://fedorahosted.org/famna/ticket/157
01:27:35 <jflory7> #info BrickHack is the Rochester Institute of Technology's primary hackathon during the academic year. Last year, Fedora attended as a sponsor. I would like to propose us attending again.
01:27:47 <jflory7> #link https://brickhack.io/
01:28:32 <jflory7> This event I would anticipate requiring us to use some of the budget to attend as a sponsor. More information is in the ticket.
01:28:54 <jflory7> I realize that this event is in close proximity in date and location to WiCHacks, but I think they're both worth attending if possible
01:29:37 <masta> yeah
01:29:38 <jflory7> I don't have any final budget for this either, but I was hoping to do the same outreach for BrickHack that I was with WiCHacks.
01:29:40 <jflory7> As an idea...
01:30:32 <jflory7> I talked with cprofitt on the way back from HackMIT, and one idea we had was reaching out to other open source companies in different areas (think hardware, like Beaglebone, or plenty of other areas) and "partnering" as event sponsors. Fedora would go to represent Fedora and we could also support another project that may not traditionally have a presence at events.
01:30:46 <jflory7> This could be a way for us to offset costs and still have a significant impact
01:30:54 <jflory7> And maybe show off some open source collaboration too
01:31:04 <masta> seems fine
01:31:04 <jflory7> The idea hasn't been developed much yet, but it was a thought we both shared
01:31:16 <jflory7> I may try to do that for one or both of these two.
01:31:52 <masta> not sure the beagle folks would do this event, but they might
01:31:57 <jflory7> Again, just wanted to put this on people's radars for now. But I will start building wiki pages and doing some outreach about this.
01:32:00 * jflory7 nods
01:32:34 <jflory7> masta: If you have any other ideas for companies / projects with a budget that might be interested in this, would be happy to hear them. Beagle was just one that came to mind, but I'm sure there's others we could reach out to as well.
01:32:36 <juggler_> sounds good so far jflory7
01:34:26 <jflory7> #action jflory7 Create wiki page for BrickHack 2017, begin building budget information, reach out to local Fedorans in Rochester, outreach to other groups to offset sponsorship costs
01:34:28 <jflory7> For what it's worth, I'm going to try to target $500 for sponsorship, or if we can get Red Hat in, we might be able to do a higher tier altogether
01:34:29 <jflory7> Last year, we sponsored for $1200
01:34:39 <jflory7> Going to try to work that down - the benefits of knowing the organizers, maybe... :P
01:34:59 <masta> the main beagle person is in Chicago, but the boards are made here in Dallas
01:35:00 <masta> but they support a few hacker spaces and things like that
01:35:00 <jflory7> jsandys: Still with us?
01:35:00 <masta> anyhoo... seem that brickhack is becoming an event we keep doing, which is fine by me
01:35:00 <masta> these are the kind of events we need more
01:35:15 * jflory7 nods to masta
01:35:30 <jflory7> Okay, that's actually great to know that they do support local hackerspaces... I can reach out to them about this.
01:35:39 <jflory7> masta: Do you happen to have any contacts at Beagle by chance?
01:36:22 <masta> jflory7, yes
01:36:43 <jflory7> masta: Oh, interesting... once I build more info for BrickHack, do you think you would be alright with reaching out to them about this idea?
01:37:22 <masta> jflory7, sure. Not in the past Beagle folks have donated like ~40 boards to Fedora
01:37:28 <masta> note, even
01:37:30 * jflory7 nods
01:37:33 <jflory7> Awesome!
01:37:44 <jflory7> I'll be sure to get rolling on this sooner than later then
01:37:50 <masta> yeah, we are friends with Beagle
01:37:59 <jflory7> masta++
01:37:59 <zodbot> jflory7: Karma for parasense changed to 2 (for the f24 release cycle): https://badges.fedoraproject.org/tags/cookie/any
01:38:30 <jflory7> #info === Ticket #118 - skipped, jsandys not present, will work offline ===

01:38:57 <zodbot> jflory7: #154 (FAmNA Budget sheet) – FAmNA Trac - https://fedorahosted.org/famna/ticket/154
01:39:19 <jflory7> This is the usual budget worksheet for the region. Andrew uploaded the latest version for October at the beginning of this month.
01:39:39 <jflory7> #info No recent changes to this ticket - Andrew uploaded the latest changes for the month at the beginning of October. Please review at your leisure.
01:40:00 <jflory7> #topic === Open Floor ===
01:40:11 <jflory7> Alrighty... anything else anyone wants to share?
01:40:20 <danofsatx> Does anyone know of any Linux happenings in the Tampa Bay area?
01:40:32 <danofsatx> I tried Meetup.com, but didn't find a whole lot.
01:40:36 <jflory7> danofsatx: I think Fossetcon alternates every other year, right?
01:40:49 <jflory7> I know award3535 went a while back - you might be able to ping him about events in Florida.
01:41:10 <jflory7> Unsure about Tampa specifically, but I know Fossetcon is the main one in Florida (if I recall, Tallahasee?).
01:41:16 <juggler_> I think I might be attending Socalcodecamp One or more days 11/12-11/13. I can attend with either an Ambassador hat or not. If not, I can at least drop off some media/stickers...
01:41:20 <danofsatx> I don't know. I'll check. He's coming down for some cosplay thing at the end of the month, I was going to meet up with him then.
01:41:24 <jflory7> Err, no, Orlando: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/fossetcon-2015-orlando-florida/
01:42:18 <jflory7> danofsatx: Doesn't look like any new info yet, but you can probably peek here (hopefully won't have to wait until November for something to swing over to). http://fossetcon.org/
01:43:11 <jflory7> You can probably ask Andrew for more ideas when you see him at the end of the month too
01:43:12 <juggler_> danofsatx not that I know of..
01:44:43 <jflory7> danofsatx: Alternatively, you could also see if any universities nearby run any kind of tech events
01:44:46 <jflory7> That might be a safe bet too.
01:44:51 <jflory7> Alrighty... anything else to cover tonight?
01:45:20 <juggler_> i'm good here :)
01:45:41 * jflory7 is also good
01:46:50 <jflory7> Open floor, going once...
01:47:00 <jflory7> Going twice...
01:47:02 <danofsatx> gone....
01:47:05 <jflory7> Going thrice...
01:47:11 <jflory7> THanks for coming out tonight, everyone!
01:47:14 <juggler_> thanks for organizing, jflory7
01:47:17 <jflory7> Hope to see you all next week.
