16:40:26 <brainycmurf> #topic https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/440 (Implement New Desktop Environment Features Automatically when Updating)
16:40:29 <brainycmurf> We generally expect that app updates are generally occuring automatically - upgrades from F<N> => F<N+1> are happening with 'dnf system-upgrade'. Not clear whether the reporter is reporting that this doesn't happen, or that it's hard to understand what changes are happening. Discussion about how we could better highlight changes with newer versions of GNOME.
16:40:34 <brainycmurf> Neal: KDE has a "welcome wizard" that highlights changes that embeds QML mockups of new UI, has buttons to launch new applications, etc.
16:40:37 <brainycmurf> Allan: how does the welcome wizard get translated? Neal: <paraphrase> it's translated like the rest of the desktop.
16:40:40 <brainycmurf> Neal: suggests that as a minimum we should have a notification takes you to the Fedora magazine article.
16:40:43 <brainycmurf> Allan and Owen indicate this should be addressed with Fedora 40, Neal responded in the ticket to ask for verification with F40->F41 to see if Ptyxis shows up on upgrade.
16:40:46 <brainycmurf> #topic https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/434 (Replace Evince with Papers)

16:40:50 <brainycmurf> Neal: Looks like it's in progress
16:40:54 <brainycmurf> Michael: Targeted for GNOME 48, currently has a11y problems
16:40:56 <brainycmurf> Allan: Optimistic on it landing for replacing Evince in GNOME 48 / Fedora 42
16:40:58 <brainycmurf> #topic https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/435 (Replace totem with Showtime)

16:41:05 <brainycmurf> #topic Announcements and status reports
16:41:07 <brainycmurf> Neal: F41 beta released today.
16:41:09 <brainycmurf> Neal: couple of desktop relevant blockers (Anaconda problem and GNOME-Initial-Setup vs. selinux policy)
16:41:12 <brainycmurf> #topic fractional scaling
16:41:14 <brainycmurf> Michael: it's been on by default in rawhide for several releases, disabled in branches - will be on in F41 unless we change something.
16:41:17 <brainycmurf> Neal: what about the Xwayland fractional scaling feature?
16:41:19 <brainycmurf> Allan: not enabled yet, Jonas would prefer not to without more testing
16:41:21 <brainycmurf> Neal would like some kind of way to gain confidence and enable it out of the box
16:41:25 <brainycmurf> Neal suggests having a test day to test top X11 applications (in particular steam, chrome, electron applications)
16:41:28 <brainycmurf> #action Allan to set up a pad and do some initial testing
16:41:30 <brainycmurf> #endmeeting
