19:04:07 <brainycmurf> Agenda
19:04:09 <brainycmurf> #topic Fedora 40 planning and status updates
19:04:11 <brainycmurf> Installer workflow, desktop changes will take more time probably slip to Fedora 41
19:04:13 <brainycmurf> headless remote desktop stuff might be late
19:04:15 <brainycmurf> #topic NVIDIA driver and UEFI secure boot
19:04:17 <brainycmurf> #link https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/155
19:04:19 <brainycmurf> GSP firmware, makes open source nouveau driver better, supported by every GPU released since 2018, there's now a comparatively small number of "gap" systems supported by the proprietary driver that can't be supported by GSP+nouveau.
19:04:23 <brainycmurf> Michael (re)proposes removing proprietary driver from GNOME software, no advantage when it doesn't work without disabling UEFI secure boot (separate issue from GSP firmware support improving things)
19:04:26 <brainycmurf> nvidia driver packaged by nvidia: uses dkms, does not resign on installation/updates
19:04:28 <brainycmurf> nvidia driver packaged by fedora: kmod, will (re)sign the kernel modules
19:04:30 <brainycmurf> Owen and Neal discuss the difficulties of path forward given competing interests
19:04:32 <brainycmurf> Allan, have we advertised that we want this worked on and what design we would welcome? i'm puzzled by suggestion that this task has been on the table and no one has taken it up, how would the community know about it and be able to volunteer?
19:04:38 <brainycmurf> Michael, i wouldn't expect Fedora community members to implement this, but if we agreed on an acceptable solution it might be possible but we don't have that. Every solution Neal has proposed has been rejected. Least controversial option would be doing what Ubuntu is doing, which requires manual intervention.
19:04:42 <brainycmurf> Neal, it works with Ubuntu because the manual interventions required are required in their installation, showing the MOK Util steps. No one in Fedora wants to do that.
19:04:45 <brainycmurf> Michael, non-interactivity is a core tenant of packagekit
19:04:47 <brainycmurf> Neal, I've gone over this for three years, and there's nothing but roadblocks
19:04:49 <brainycmurf> Michael, there are many challenges and we haven't found a path forward,
19:04:51 <brainycmurf> Neal gives up and wants it all ripped out
19:04:53 <brainycmurf> Consensus to remove it as an option in GNOME Software by removing appstream data
19:04:55 <brainycmurf> #topic Downloading updates in Software failing due to Google Chrome repo signing
