18:04:57 <darci> #startmeeting
18:04:57 <zodbot> Meeting started Fri Dec 12 18:04:57 2014 UTC. The chair is darci. Information about MeetBot at http://wiki.debian.org/MeetBot.
18:04:57 <zodbot> Useful Commands: #action #agreed #halp #info #idea #link #topic.
18:05:38 <barrettk> OK, so. How's the OpenMRS stuff going?
18:05:57 <darci> It would be nice for everyone to briefly introduce themselves since we have members of different POSSE groups. Should we start at the top?
18:06:42 <barrettk> Oh, ok. I guess the zodbot doesn't need an intro. I'm Barry, resident of North Carolina. new to open all-this-stuff.
18:06:58 <cdmurphy> I'm Chris from UPenn. I attended the workshop last month.
18:07:12 <barrettk> I did the workshop too.
18:07:26 <darci> You all know me...so I'll pass! :)
18:08:04 <kiran_jinna> I am Kiran Jinna, I am a business analyst working for Merck. I have been involved with OMRS for the past couple of years doing BA/Project Management.
18:08:29 <kwurst> I’m Karl from Worcester State (Massachusetts). I’ve participated in a number of POSSE workshops, but had to miss this year’s. I’m just finishing my sabbatical, and I have a senior capstone class working in OpenMRS this spring.
18:09:30 <darci> I'm not sure if lubaochuan is here?
18:09:47 <StevenCrain> I am Steven Crain from Plattsburgh State Univ. NY. I attended this most recent POSSE also.
18:10:10 <darci> great!
18:10:30 <darci> #topic updates
18:11:01 <darci> how have things been going? maybe a brief update on what you've been doing?
18:11:48 <cdmurphy> no tangible progress since the workshop but (a) I'm definitely going to use the assignment we developed and (b) I am almost certianly going to have 1-2 students work on OpenMRS as an independent study sort of thing
18:11:56 <cdmurphy> here
18:12:00 <cdmurphy> (oops)
18:12:05 <cdmurphy> here's the assignment: http://foss2serve.org/index.php/OpenMRS_Design_Reverse_Engineering_Activity_%28Android_App%29
18:12:18 <StevenCrain> #info I put an open-ended question on Open Source on my Software Engineering final this week. It was designed to get the students thinking about contributing.
18:12:39 <darci> cdmurphy: have you done any more work on the assignment?
18:12:48 <cdmurphy> no, sorry
18:13:02 <darci> no apologies...I just wasn
18:13:11 <darci> t sure if I should take a peek
18:13:14 <darci> oops
18:13:29 <cdmurphy> Ruby and I traded emails about it but then end-of-semester stuff kind of took over
18:13:48 <StevenCrain> I will probably use a simplified version of that assignment in Software Engineering this spring also.
18:14:01 <darci> :) I was hoping that she would be able to join us today.
18:14:18 <barrettk> I finished my semester yesterday, then turned attention back to the OpenMRS thing for today's meeting. It's dead in the water. My antivirus threw out my emulator.exe, and none of the libraries remember who they are (jave.io.* doesn't even load). I don't know what we're supposed to run to make the "android-client' do something. Sorry to be so down about it (old definition of "down", not...
18:14:18 <barrettk> ...the new one that means up or somerhing".
18:14:28 <StevenCrain> Also planning to have my Computer Security course do a security audit of OpenMRS, to see what would need to be addressed for HIPAA compliance.
18:14:52 <cdmurphy> oh, interesting: is OpenMRS not already HIPAA compliant?
18:15:21 <kiran_jinna> Nope, it is not
18:15:33 <darci> I don't believe so. I think that's why it is not used in the US.
18:15:50 <kiran_jinna> You are right Darci.
18:16:16 <kiran_jinna> Steve- thats very exciting t hear
18:16:21 <kiran_jinna> Steven*
18:16:37 <kiran_jinna> Even Merck is interested in the security audit part
18:17:06 <StevenCrain> Yes, it is exciting. I am planning to write up a description once the grading is done.
18:17:11 <darci> kiran_jinna: do you know if there's any information about this (i.e. publicly available)
18:17:45 <kiran_jinna> As far as I know, there is not....but i can definitely look into it
18:18:41 <kwurst> StevenCrain: Last week’s OpenMRS Developer call was a presentation from a security professional about what OpenMRS should be focusing on in the future. Hold on, I’ll find you the link for the recording...
18:18:42 <darci> kwurst: would this tie in to anything you are doing at WS
18:18:55 <StevenCrain> Nice.
18:19:53 <kwurst> Here are the notes and the recording: https://wiki.openmrs.org/display/RES/2014-12-04+Developers+Forum
18:20:42 <cdmurphy> kwurst: which part of OpenMRS are your students working on? I was thinking of having mine contribute to the Android app, since we explored that a bit at the workshop last month
18:21:50 <StevenCrain> kwurst: Thanks, I made note of the URL for while I am developing that part of the course.
18:22:21 <kwurst> I have been discussing that with some of the project leads. I’m currently thinking about when they will be ready to contribute (probablly early Feb) and am going to see what needs doing at that point.
18:22:42 <kwurst> There is going to be a release 2.2 planning meeting in mid January.
18:23:03 <cdmurphy> ok great, that's good to know!
18:23:47 <kwurst> For anyone who is new, I would strongly suggest that attending the weekly developer forum is worthwhile. Both to see what is happening and who the people are that you will want to talk to.
18:24:16 <kwurst> Here are the notes and recordings of past meetings: https://wiki.openmrs.org/display/RES/Developers+Forum
18:25:38 <kwurst> The tentative list of meeting topics for the next few months was set at yesterday’s meeting” https://wiki.openmrs.org/display/RES/2014-12-11+Developers+Forum
18:26:40 <kwurst> Release 2.2 planning meeting will happen at the January 8th meeting. 10:00am-11:00am eastern time.
18:27:46 <darci> kwurst: how is the course development going?
18:28:14 <kwurst> I’m making some progress. I’m really starting to ramp that up now that I have only about a month left ;-)
18:28:24 <darci> lol :)
18:28:56 <darci> Are you still working with Becka?
18:29:24 <kwurst> No, I have not been. I did use some of her materials last spring, but I’m undecided whether to use them again.
18:30:36 <darci> cdmurphy: will your independent study run next semester?
18:30:45 <cdmurphy> in theory
18:30:50 <darci> ?
18:31:03 <cdmurphy> we're participating in some open-source stuff sponsored by Facebook and now Comcast
18:31:20 <cdmurphy> I'm hoping to do some HFOSS stuff, though, and thought I'd have the students do OpenMRS
18:31:36 <cdmurphy> but I need to do some more legwork in order to make sure that it will be successful for them
18:31:47 <cdmurphy> knowing about the developers forum is a good place to start, though!
18:32:52 <darci> barrettk: maybe when the term is over (actually once the holidays are over) maybe we can find some time to work on the module installation?
18:33:40 <barrettk> thanks. I was wondering how to get help. I think I'd just annoy the Developers Forum peeps. maybe not, but .. I'm really at the beginning.
18:33:55 <darci> kwurst: as a side note, we didn't download and install the core at the last POSSE. We instead decided to work on getting the Android module downloaded and running.
18:34:26 <kwurst> darci: Thanks, I had guessed that from some of the comments.
18:34:53 <kwurst> darci: Is there still progress being made on the data structures project? I’m going to be teaching data structures in Fall.
18:36:02 <cdmurphy> I'm sorry folks but I need to run
18:36:22 <darci> :) yes...some. I had done quite a bit of work on it, but then lost it when my flash drive got broken.
18:36:39 <kwurst> Bummer :(
18:37:02 <darci> I was more disappointed about losing that work than I think anything else!
18:37:27 <darci> It is on my list for January.
18:38:05 <darci> Perhaps you would like to collaborate? I plan to ping Patti and Jeff again.
18:38:32 <kwurst> Yes, that’s possible, but probably not much until April or so…
18:38:57 <darci> sounds good...I'll keep you updated.
18:39:13 <darci> Does anyone have anything else?
18:39:43 <kwurst> darci: Is this the regularly scheduled meeting time for the forseable future?
18:39:54 <darci> Yes.
18:40:03 * StevenCrain checking my notes on that
18:40:06 <darci> We have the second Friday of the month scheduled.
18:40:17 <darci> and at 1:00PM ET
18:40:24 * StevenCrain Yes, that was it.
18:40:37 <kwurst> Got it, I’ll put it on my calendar.
18:40:38 <darci> kwurst: does that work for you?
18:40:42 <darci> :)
18:40:58 <darci> Geez!!
18:41:13 <kwurst> Yep, looks OK.
18:41:24 <darci> I just looked at the calendar and our next meeting is supposed to be on January 9. I'm not available that day!
18:42:10 <barrettk> Friday 1pm works for me.
18:42:11 <darci> Would you be available on the 16th?
18:43:08 <darci> others?
18:43:13 <kwurst> The 16th works for me.
18:44:05 <barrettk> that's good for me too
18:44:31 <StevenCrain> Also OK for me.
18:44:43 <darci> kiran_jinna: ?
18:45:34 <darci> It looks like cdmurphy is away. I can check with him later.
18:46:03 <kiran_jinna> I will be on vacation in January.but i will try to attend
18:46:23 <darci> I'll circulate an email to let others know/see if this works for them.
18:46:37 <darci> kiran_jinna: ok...sounds good
18:47:07 <darci> This has been good!
18:47:42 <darci> Well wishes to all for the holiday season!
18:47:54 <StevenCrain> #info Tentative date for next meeting moved to 1/16/2015 at 1pm EST
18:48:14 <darci> thanks!
18:48:25 <darci> anything else?
18:49:22 <kwurst> Nothing else from me.
18:49:31 <darci> Okay. I'll end the meeting. Thank you!
18:49:33 <kiran_jinna> I am good
