23:10:39 <lorip> #topic update on last night's IRC
23:11:16 <lorip> #info becka is preparing her winter course using OpenMRS - she has made progress and is going to start working on a bug
23:11:45 <lorip> #info joanne is currently teaching an independent study using OpenMRS and has two student - they both have submitted patches already!
23:12:34 <lorip> #info karl is trying to figure out how to combine several classes and interests over the next few semesters and is thinking that OpenMRS might work well since he is teaching a health information class next semester
23:13:11 <lorip> #info heidi is making progress with her students who are working on Mousetrap and now have the camera tracking head movement
23:13:40 <lorip> I think those are the highlights - want to add anything about mousetrap stoney?
23:13:52 <stoney> no, that sounds right :)
23:14:06 <lorip> #topic updates
23:14:25 <lorip> howardf: can you give us a quick update?
23:14:42 <stoney> hi nnapier ! :)
23:15:00 <nnapier> hi guys!
23:15:22 <howardf> I've shown my CS0 and CS1 classes the five main POSSE projects and asked them which was the most interesting to them
23:15:56 <stoney> interesting... their response?
23:15:59 <howardf> most of my work with this is for a class this coming spring, but I haven't done much with that yet (too much going on this semester)
23:16:09 * ghislop is wondering which grabbed their interest
23:16:29 <howardf> a lot of them seem to like OpenMRS... i haven't looked at the reasons they gave yet though.. one class i just surveyed yesterday
23:17:35 <stoney> cool, I would be interested in their reasons too...
23:17:47 <ghislop> ditto
23:18:17 <howardf> i could compile them and post them somewhere
23:18:28 <stoney> that would rock!
23:18:29 <stoney> :)
23:19:26 <howardf> I guess my page on foss2serve would be as good a place as any
23:19:39 <lorip> what are your thoughts for next semester?
23:20:36 <howardf> i'm teaching a senior project course, and i'm looking to have them work on one of these projects
23:20:54 <nnapier> I guess I'll chime in. Short answer: still not sure
23:21:02 <howardf> it could end up being loosely modeled after the way this workshop has gone
23:21:23 <nnapier> Longer answer: I'm teaching a junior-level Software Development course where we introduce students to full life-cycle development
23:21:23 <lorip> nnapier: which project are you thinking of using?
23:21:58 <nnapier> I was originally thinking sahana but it seems too big. Need something smaller. Heidi had suggested maybe MouseTrap?
23:22:32 <nnapier> Needs to be java
23:22:49 <stoney> bummer... MouseTrap isn't java, its python
23:22:50 <stoney> :(
23:22:58 <lorip> OpenMRS is java
23:23:31 <lorip> but it isn't small
23:23:43 <nnapier> how easy is OpenMRS to install? I could never get past that with Sahana
23:23:51 <nnapier> well, I could maybe overlook small. Java is more important
23:24:25 <lorip> I have the dev environment installed on windows, ben has it in linux and joanne had a student install on mac
23:24:52 <stoney> (bummer, I was looking forward to having another partner in crime :) )
23:25:06 <lorip> darci is having her entire class install it on windows
23:25:16 <nnapier> Looking at the site now... Looks "friendly"
23:25:38 <nnapier> The Wednesday at 9 am meetings are intruiging: https://wiki.openmrs.org/display/RES/OpenMRS+University
23:25:54 <lorip> I've been to those - they were over my head!
23:26:03 <nnapier> Good to know!!!!
23:26:10 <howardf> i've spent a lot of time this weekend looking at OpenMRS (time i should have spent grading LOL) it looks quite approachable for new involvement
23:26:23 <lorip> joanne has found the community helpful for her 2 independent study students
23:27:23 <lorip> if you are interested, we are trying to set up an IRC call for those using OpenMRS next week either Tues or Wed night at 8pm - interested in joining us?
23:27:57 <nnapier> Yes, I'd be interested. Tuesday is slightly better for me.
23:28:15 <nnapier> Could do Wed though if that's best for everyone else
23:28:25 <lorip> I'll send you both the doodle poll now...
23:28:32 <nnapier> Thanks!
23:30:08 <nnapier> Any particular projects folks are looking at?
23:31:06 <lorip> within OpenMRS? I think people have just been looking at the easy bugs and trying to get used to the environment
23:31:21 <nnapier> yes -- ok. makes sense
23:32:53 <lorip> just sent the email...
23:33:00 <howardf> got it
23:33:03 <lorip> anything else? questions?
23:34:03 <nnapier> Got it too. Nothing else at this time. Joining the OpenMRS group will probably be quite helpful for me in making progress. So that was great!
23:34:36 <lorip> we'd love to have you!
23:35:04 <lorip> ghislop: anything else?
23:35:33 <nnapier> wait - the doodle says Sept 23. Is this the right one?
23:35:48 <ghislop> Not that I can think of...
23:35:54 <ghislop> Sounds like OpenMRS is emerging as the biggest focus of activity...
23:36:17 <nnapier> safety in numbers
23:36:39 <lorip> yes, we did it at the beginning of the semester for the semester so we were having people confirm their availability on that - please just add to it with your current availability - make sense?
23:36:54 <nnapier> Yes - ok. will do!
23:37:22 <lorip> thanks so much for letting us know what you are up to - if you have any questions, please ping one of us
23:37:33 <lorip> hope to see you on the next OpenMRS IRC!
23:37:51 <nnapier> Yes. Thanks all! Signing off for now.
23:37:56 <lorip> have a nice night! bye...
