02:09:11 <zodbot> award3535: #131 (BrickHack 2016) – FAmNA general trac - https://fedorahosted.org/famna/ticket/131
02:09:20 <award3535> jflory7 go
02:10:50 <jflory7> I'm still working on getting information about the sponsorship from spot / Ruth
02:11:08 <jflory7> It's in-progress, and hopefully more details on that should finalize tomorrow when jzb returns
02:11:14 <jflory7> As for the event--
02:11:32 <award3535> since we did not get media produced we should have funds
02:11:53 <jflory7> As mentioned in the ticket, it says we are the Open Source sponsors for the event. This comes with a few other responsibilities and lot of flexibility for defining the category for the event.
02:12:03 <jflory7> There is an Open Source category that participants will be able to participate in
02:12:30 <jflory7> The category sponsor is expected to either present a product for participants to hack onto or to work on
02:12:39 <jflory7> ...which could be projects in Fedora itself..
02:12:47 <jflory7> Or mentorship to programmers is also an option
02:12:49 <jflory7> However--
02:13:13 <jflory7> This is a great opportunity for Fedora to present itself as an open source expert and to appeal to a large group of students interested in open source
02:14:00 <jflory7> Especially with the added possibility of having participants hacking on Fedora projects, this is a great opportunity to link the sponsorship of this event to real, tangible progress
02:14:30 <jflory7> I would like to try to focus on the strategic aspect of this event as well, or find more resources who can help us with our strategy for planning this event.
02:14:43 <jflory7> It's a great opportunity and I don't want it to go to waste.
02:15:02 <jflory7> decause is also interested in assisting with this, but he is out of the country traveling until next week.
02:15:21 <jflory7> He should be able to make a great resource in helping with this, but I was hoping to get the discussion rolling in this meeting as well.
02:15:22 <jflory7> eof
02:17:29 <cydrobolt> Sounds good jflory7 :)
02:17:38 <masta> yep
02:17:51 <award3535> jflory7 great information
02:17:59 <award3535> moving on to the next ticket
02:18:30 <award3535> .famnaticket 139
02:18:32 <zodbot> award3535: #139 (Bitcamp 2016 Spring Sponsorship Funds) – FAmNA general trac - https://fedorahosted.org/famna/ticket/139
02:18:43 <award3535> cydrobolt this one is yours go
02:18:54 <cydrobolt> Okay
02:18:59 <award3535> also remember this one is on next years budget
02:19:20 <cydrobolt> This event is Bitcamp spring 2016
02:19:43 <masta> weird, I don't see #139 on the agenda
02:19:44 <cydrobolt> It's another student-focused hackathon, this one happening at University of Maryland near DC
02:19:53 <cydrobolt> masta, made it recently, might not be in there
02:20:07 <cydrobolt> I linked the wiki page on the ticket -- see 139
02:20:30 <cydrobolt> Bitcamp is one of the largest student hackathons in the country, with 1200 people attending from around the country for the weekend (Fri-Sun)
02:20:33 <masta> otay, fine by me
02:20:45 <jflory7> I personally think this is a great event for us to attend
02:20:59 <cydrobolt> I've spoken with the Bitcamp people, and it looks like we can get a booth for $1000
02:21:22 <award3535> thats a good price, but how many can we have at the booth
02:21:37 <cydrobolt> I can ask, but I don't think there is a strict limit
02:21:45 <cydrobolt> Their website can be found at https://bitca.mp
02:21:58 <award3535> now that is a deal from the last one you attended
02:22:07 <cydrobolt> I know many people who have participated in the past, and it is a really well organised event
02:22:18 <cydrobolt> award3535, $1000 for a booth is really unusual but welcomed ;)
02:22:52 <cydrobolt> This is the first time I've seen it -- but Bitcamp does have a large sponsor presence (lots of companies and organisations are there) rather than the lower sponsor presence at other hackathons
02:23:01 <award3535> cydrobolt I remember the HackRU was 2K and only allowed a max of 2 people
02:23:07 <cydrobolt> award3535, it was 1.5k
02:23:14 <cydrobolt> I don't think we had a max of people
02:23:18 <cydrobolt> award3535, that was MHacks, I think
02:23:36 <cydrobolt> jflory7 has indicated he might be able to come from Rochester to help out with the booth
02:24:16 <cydrobolt> I think I and jflory7 can definitely make it there behind the booth no problem, at least
02:24:33 <masta> I'd like to know the head-count too, but I'm friendly to the $1k table... it's the travel/lodge aspect I hope is proportionally low too
02:24:41 <cydrobolt> masta, yeah
02:24:44 <cydrobolt> so there is free lodging at the event
02:25:00 <cydrobolt> they have places to stay at the event venue, as it is an overnight event
02:25:06 <award3535> DC area is expensive
02:25:17 <award3535> and yes it is overnight
02:25:22 <cydrobolt> award3535, attendees/sponsors sleep at the venue for free, so that won't be an issue
02:25:46 <cydrobolt> in terms of travel, I can make it there for relatively cheap, and jflory7 can take a Greyhound there for ~60 (but might be cheaper with student discount)
02:26:08 <masta> what is this thing, like a camp ground or something?
02:26:17 <cydrobolt> masta, nope, haha
02:26:25 <cydrobolt> It's a hall at UMD
02:26:39 <cydrobolt> People build a project over 48 hours, so they stay at the venue
02:27:22 <award3535> cydrobolt you will need to get everyone that thinks they will attend and get the total estimated amount before we vote on it
02:27:23 <cydrobolt> I can get there either through Amtrak or Greyhound, probably
02:27:28 <cydrobolt> Right
02:27:43 <cydrobolt> I was thinking me and jflory7 could likely attend, but if anyone else is open to going that would be good
02:28:08 <wrnash> looks like they have these hackathon all over the us.
02:28:16 <cydrobolt> I can get there for around $100 round trip through Amtrak or Greyhound
02:28:22 <cydrobolt> wrnash, yeah, but they differ in quality
02:28:25 <jflory7> Most technological universities are either running them or sending their students to them
02:28:26 <wrnash> check out https://mlh.io/seasons/s2016/events?utm_source=s2016&utm_medium=TrustBadge&utm_campaign=s2016
02:28:40 <cydrobolt> A lot are very small and not as good for brand recognition
02:28:49 <jflory7> Major League Hacking is usually the central planning authority for many hackathons too
02:28:49 <cydrobolt> wrnash, MLH also doesn't cover many events
02:29:00 <cydrobolt> jflory7, there was a boycott recently, and there were some conflicts
02:29:10 <cydrobolt> so it doesn't encompass as many events as it used to
02:29:11 <jflory7> cydrobolt: Ahh, I did not know that
02:29:34 <cydrobolt> But me and jflory7 can definitely attend, our combined travel feels should be under $300 roundtrip? jflory7
02:30:10 <jflory7> I think that amount is reasonable. I don't have demands for travel costs, I can travel as cheap as I can get
02:30:23 <cydrobolt> Yeah
02:30:28 <cydrobolt> I live somewhat close, I ride rail
02:30:32 <award3535> cydrobolt put the word out and get the page finalized with a budget and then we can vote on the amount
02:30:36 <cydrobolt> (or Greyhound)
02:30:39 <cydrobolt> Cool
02:30:53 <cydrobolt> jflory7, let's email the list and see if anyone else wants to come
02:31:10 <jflory7> cydrobolt++ sounds good to me. decause might also be interested if the date works for him, or at least with helping out.
02:31:17 <award3535> I would like to push a vote until the 25th of Feb
02:31:29 <wrnash> +1
02:31:41 <award3535> that allows plenty of time for planning and max participation
02:31:45 <wrnash> not enough information at this time
02:31:49 <cydrobolt> Cool
02:32:10 <cydrobolt> We'll send emails to the list and ensure that we open tickets for the things we need like swag and event box
02:32:43 <jflory7> +1
02:32:47 * jflory7 is stepping away for a second
02:32:48 <award3535> swag is a little tight as well, media will not be completed until F24
02:33:03 <award3535> event box I have for the east coast
02:33:15 <masta> eventbox I have central
02:33:28 <masta> needs a refresh
02:34:20 <award3535> moving on
02:34:24 <award3535> #topic == Open Floor ===
02:34:59 <award3535> just for thought, I do not have the budget numbers yet, but my suggestion is to spend wisely on events
02:35:37 <masta> understood
02:35:52 <cydrobolt> cool
02:36:02 <award3535> ensure you get your shipment items requested far enough in advance so that it doesnt cost an arm and a leg
02:36:03 <jflory7> I have an announcement about stickers!
02:36:21 <award3535> jflory7 go
02:37:41 <jflory7> #info nb and I are looking into ordering new stickers for FAmNA. We're still getting quotes from a variety of vendors, but our best offer is currently from Costco Print & Copy Center, which is 10,000 infinity logo stickers for $815. Also in consideration is UnixStickers.com, which can get 7,000 stickers for around $1,000. This can be all infinity logo, all full logo, or 50% of both.
02:38:03 <jflory7> Hopefully this can be ordered and available soon, more details to come as they are finalized
02:38:59 <award3535> are they the same size
02:39:34 <jflory7> award3535: Yes, 3x3 for the infinity logo, 2.5" high for the full logo.
02:40:41 <award3535> ok, that seems a no brainer there, less and get more
02:41:10 <masta> Gee, I wonder if unixstickers are use costco too
02:41:32 <masta> (with a markup)
02:41:52 <masta> anyhoo... +1 costco
02:41:54 <award3535> hmm, maybe they do, who knows
02:42:17 <jflory7> Heheh, yeah. Costco has really great prices. I've also used them before for other stickers in the past for my own things
02:43:00 <jflory7> I was satisfied with the quality of the stickers, although they were cut kind of messily (but I didn't pay to have them die-cut and just in sheets). The quote they gave me was for die-cut shaped.
02:43:05 <masta> Ladys & Gents.. I'm out, may you have a wonderful rest of your day.
02:43:07 <jflory7> * kind of cut messily
02:43:09 * masta wonders off
02:43:14 <jflory7> masta: See you, masta!
02:43:22 <award3535> have a good evening masta
02:43:53 <jflory7> Sorry, that sentence was confusing -- for my personal order, they were cut messy, but I did not pay to have them die-cut. The quote they gave for Fedora included having them die-cut.
02:44:02 <jflory7> In a noisy place so I'm a little bit distracted
02:45:47 <award3535> anyone else have anything tonight?
02:45:59 <wrnash> i do not
02:46:32 <award3535> jflory7 can you put a ticket in for the stickers so we can keep track of the progress
02:46:38 <jflory7> award3535: Yes, I can.
02:46:47 <jflory7> #action jflory7 Make a ticket tracking the progress of sticker orders
02:47:34 <award3535> ok, for once we are ending early
02:47:41 <jflory7> Sounds good to me :)
02:47:47 <jflory7> I'm going to go ahead and head out too and head home
02:47:54 <jflory7> Have a good rest of your evening, all!
02:47:57 <award3535> but on the horizon, TXLF, SELF, OSCON
02:48:03 <jflory7> award3535++ Thank you for chairing tonight
02:48:28 <award3535> all, stay safe and have a great rest of your evening
