21:02:48 <ryanlerch> .hello ryanlerch

21:03:00 <stickster> hola ryan :-)
21:03:08 <ryanlerch> heya stickster!
21:04:34 <stickster> ryanlerch: Let's go ahead and run through the last week's stuff real quick
21:04:41 <stickster> I'll keep an eye out for other folks
21:04:43 <ryanlerch> stickster: aewsome!
21:04:47 <stickster> #topic Last week retrospective
21:04:49 <ryanlerch> 3 posts this week
21:04:58 <ryanlerch> What is an Init System: 2073 Hits
21:05:00 <ryanlerch> Monospaced fonts : 1853 Hits
21:05:02 <ryanlerch> OPen Source Phototography workflow: 1703
21:05:39 * jflory7 is late, is here now
21:06:07 <ryanlerch> 106,000 hits so far this month, so should be a similar month to the 175000 last month
21:06:30 <ryanlerch> although, if f23 scrapes into this month, that will go up for sure :)
21:06:36 <ryanlerch> hey jflory7!
21:06:40 <ryanlerch> welcome
21:07:19 <ryanlerch> jflory7, stickster thanks again for heloing with the magazine, it is really appreciated :)
21:07:46 <stickster> #chair ryanlerch jflory7
21:07:46 <zodbot> Current chairs: jflory7 ryanlerch stickster
21:07:56 <stickster> +1 ryanlerch -- well done Justin :-)
21:08:08 <stickster> I also caught your blog post this week jflory7 -- good stuff :-)
21:08:40 <ryanlerch> that was it for this week stickster
21:08:41 <jflory7> Super glad to be involved and helping! :)
21:08:46 <jflory7> Thanks guys.
21:09:06 <stickster> ryanlerch: Looks like no-go for Tuesday, slipped to Nov 3 :-(
21:09:22 <stickster> We were so close to an on-time release! I could taste it.... :-D
21:09:25 <ryanlerch> stickster: yeah, just saw that in my email :(
21:09:35 <stickster> also ryanlerch, apparently you look like Mick Foley
21:09:49 <jflory7> Almost had the Halloween release - almost.
21:09:57 <ryanlerch> stickster: yeah, wasnt sure what to think of that one
21:10:12 <ryanlerch> i am typing with a sock on my hand thouhglm;'n
21:10:21 <stickster> jflory7: for your benefit... I'm referring to a comment that came in on the Magazine telling Ryan that... we're not sure whether to approve it or not :-D
21:11:37 <jflory7> Heheh - sounds similar to the comment I saw about Fedora being 20 years old!
21:12:11 <jflory7> So all in all, seems like we had a pretty good week!
21:12:22 <ryanlerch> jflory7: yeah pretty solid!
21:12:50 <ryanlerch> padding the feed out with a repost and a quick news item seemed to work :)
21:12:56 <stickster> ryanlerch: I would say if we could end the month with 150K hits that would be a good success
21:13:12 <ryanlerch> stickster: agreed!
21:13:17 <stickster> We're at almost 107K now, it's doable
21:13:31 <stickster> ryanlerch: Do you think you could post something to the magazine about the release delay?
21:13:39 <stickster> Might as well take it on the chin
21:14:17 <ryanlerch> stickster: probably would be good -- mattdm good idea or bad idea?
21:14:21 <stickster> Give it a nice spin, we have a quality bar to reach and don't want to push out something squirrelly
21:14:48 <stickster> yeah, mattdm can give us best +/-1 here
21:14:49 <stickster> .wg 35
21:14:51 <stickster> oops
21:16:15 <ryanlerch> :)
21:16:25 <stickster> All right, in the meantime...
21:16:30 <stickster> #topic Pitches
21:16:40 <stickster> #link http://fedoramagazine.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=pitch&orderby=date&order=asc
21:16:48 <stickster> #info Developer portal
21:17:08 <stickster> This is about the new developer.fpo site, which doesn't look to be live *yet*, but soon
21:17:33 <stickster> I think this is perfect for the mag; the new site's aimed at general developers of all kinds of code, after all
21:17:55 <ryanlerch> yeah great post idea!
21:17:58 <ryanlerch> +1 for me
21:18:00 <stickster> #link http://fedoramagazine.org/?p=10476&preview=true
21:18:04 <jflory7> +1 for me too.
21:18:21 <stickster> OK, that's unanimous since we're everyone who showed up :-)
21:18:33 <stickster> #agreed Move this to draft
21:18:43 <stickster> #action stickster find out from jstribny when site actually is to go live
21:18:55 <stickster> ryanlerch: can you toggle that to draft please?
21:19:05 <ryanlerch> one note in quiclk review of it -- solidify some of the langualge -- changes things like "its aim" and "it should help"
21:19:20 <ryanlerch> to it does, and will help :)
21:19:36 <stickster> Yes -- needs an edit for sure
21:19:47 <stickster> I'd also rearrange those links into a list for easier reading
21:20:17 <ryanlerch> will get a featured image for it too
21:21:06 <stickster> #action ryanlerch make a featured image for the dev portal article
21:21:08 <stickster> Cool
21:21:15 <ryanlerch> i wonder if josef is still online
21:21:22 <stickster> I just emailed him & marketing list.
21:21:29 <ryanlerch> wondering what he was thinking about when to post this
21:21:42 <ryanlerch> stickster: 2 steps ahead, as always :)
21:21:42 <stickster> Yeah, that's what I asked -- probably day and date with it going live, that looks like the intent
21:22:02 * stickster barrels on
21:22:08 <stickster> #topic Unfinished drafts
21:22:09 * jflory7 wants to bring up something towards the end of the meeting (while I remember now)
21:22:10 <stickster> #link http://fedoramagazine.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=post&orderby=date&order=asc
21:22:20 <stickster> jflory7: feel free to do it now, it's just us chickens here
21:23:31 <jflory7> Okay, it's a bit off-topic towards articles, but it's related to some discussion going on at the Join SIG. We were discussing the idea of team-based "Join" days which are marketed days to help bring new contributors into a specific team - mailga, FranciscoD, and I have been discussing it on that ML.
21:24:10 <jflory7> We thought it might be an interesting idea to try to do a "Join Day" for marketing / Magazine to try to help draw new contributors or interested people to write for the Magazine.
21:25:58 <stickster> I like the idea quite a bit, because there's a lot of ground here that new contributors could help with
21:26:03 <jflory7> (Relevant thread: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/fedora-join/2015-October/000385.html)
21:26:05 <ryanlerch> yeah, that is something that could easily promoted on the community blog too
21:26:13 <jflory7> That's what I was thinking too.
21:26:21 <ryanlerch> which is almost ready :)
21:26:38 <stickster> I think one of the things we've struggled with is keeping from blocking on too much editing -- for that we need English speakers (strong ESL is fine)
21:27:10 <linuxmodder> kinda like test day and i18n days for releng ?
21:27:21 <stickster> I noticed that for some folks who were having trouble with English, it was tough in two ways -- first, to get them to understand how to scope the article, and then second, to provide a draft that wasn't quite so much time to edit
21:27:50 <linuxmodder> someone wants to start on that I'd gladly add to my blog and G+ as well
21:28:01 <stickster> I spent several hours on a few of the articles, and practically had to rewrite one of them -- that's not a complaint per se, just noting that it shifts the burden a bit and we need to be aware of that
21:28:18 <jflory7> stickster: Perhaps we could put together an internal advice article for writing a good Magazine article and good practices to keep in mind to get an article published faster.
21:28:28 <jflory7> It could even just be something we do on the community blog, come to think of it
21:28:33 <stickster> I think ryanlerch has something like that already IIRC
21:28:36 <jflory7> linex: I think that was the idea.
21:28:52 <linuxmodder> stickster, upside works on your editor skills (mine suck too while i hate the idea of doing it I'm pretty good at it)
21:28:58 <ryanlerch> yeah its a fine line between getitng more contributors & good, easy content
21:29:03 <stickster> agreed
21:29:14 <stickster> we don't want to turn anyone away unnecessarily either
21:29:33 <stickster> But it might be a matter of recruiting not just writers, but *editors* too who should be good at that
21:29:47 <linuxmodder> kinda new to fedmag and such (do ambassador and fi / docs stuff tho) what means other than planet are there for 'staging' such things?
21:30:05 <stickster> We'd love to have a dozen writers and a dozen editors who can all pitch in on an article every month, as opposed to a few people doing them once or more a week
21:30:24 <linuxmodder> on a limited time basis thru likely jan '16 I'd be down for soem edit work
21:30:49 <stickster> linuxmodder: Do you have a blog of your own you can URL here?
21:31:28 <cydrobolt> hey all
21:31:40 <stickster> Also we have the community blog on the way Very Soon Now
21:31:52 <cydrobolt> I am currently working on the 7th iteration of the systemd articles
21:31:57 <linuxmodder> linux-modder.blogspot.com
21:31:59 <stickster> thanks cydrobolt!
21:32:14 <cydrobolt> stickster, could use some clarification :)
21:32:23 <linuxmodder> drop the - and you have my less maintianed wp one too
21:32:28 <cydrobolt> by unit templates, we mean the .service files that systemd takes to generate a service, right?
21:32:33 <jflory7> So perhaps if we were to do some kind Fedora Magazine Join Day, we could try to get new contributors started on the community blog and then perhaps move towards the Magazine with experience? As well as try to target people interested in editing?
21:32:46 <jflory7> Perhaps we could move this to the mailing list to keep this meeting on track to be finished on time.
21:33:02 <linuxmodder> unit templates AIUI are unit files which are the same as .service files of old
21:33:10 <cydrobolt> i.e the files in /etc/systemd/system/
21:33:30 <stickster> jflory7: Sure, that makes sense
21:33:39 <linuxmodder> yup those are unit files (tmeplates are the empty 'shell' ones
21:33:40 <stickster> jflory7: I will be happy to jump in that thread with you!
21:33:47 <jflory7> Sounds good, I'll make sure to get that sent out tonight!
21:33:50 <cydrobolt> linuxmodder, gotcha :)
21:34:05 <stickster> cydrobolt: linuxmodder: Wait, I thought the templates were similar to what we use for getty@
21:34:06 <cydrobolt> the word "template" confused me a bit, but I should be ready to pitch it at the next meeting
21:34:16 <stickster> I think you guys are not talking about what the article was pitched as
21:34:21 <stickster> Or are you?
21:34:22 <linuxmodder> cydrobolt, for ex. systemctl start httpd systemctl start httpd.service BOTH fire up httpd bits
21:34:32 <cydrobolt> linuxmodder, yes
21:34:42 <cydrobolt> stickster, I think those files are what getty0 uses
21:34:52 <cydrobolt> in /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants
21:34:57 <linuxmodder> getty being graphical tty yes?
21:35:17 <linuxmodder> aka xterminal
21:35:35 <stickster> cydrobolt: Specifically the article is supposed to be about making a template file (those that use @ to generate new services based on a parameter, like a port, hostname, tty#, etc.)
21:35:44 <cydrobolt> ahhhh stickster
21:35:47 <cydrobolt> gotcha
21:35:57 <cydrobolt> such as those of OpenVPN :)
21:35:59 <cydrobolt> I see
21:36:03 <cydrobolt> makes sense now
21:36:07 <stickster> getty@ is an example of that. It generates a new getty service based on when you switch to tty2, tty3, tty4, etc.
21:36:14 <cydrobolt> yeah, I know what you mean now
21:36:17 <stickster> cool
21:36:26 <stickster> OK, so... back to drafts now :-)
21:36:38 <stickster> Here's a better link: http://fedoramagazine.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=post&orderby=editorial-metadata-first-draft-date&order=asc
21:36:50 <croberts> stickster: hi
21:36:57 <croberts> sorry was in a mtg
21:37:00 <cydrobolt> hey croberts
21:37:07 <croberts> hi cydrobolt
21:37:21 <stickster> no worries, hi croberts
21:37:26 <ryanlerch> hi croberts
21:37:30 <croberts> ryanlerch: hi
21:37:42 <stickster> #info systemd part 2 (unit files)
21:37:46 <ryanlerch> croberts: we are doing drafts now
21:37:50 <stickster> #link http://fedoramagazine.org/?p=10226&preview=true
21:37:52 <ryanlerch> FYI
21:38:16 <stickster> There's quite a bit missing from this draft, I just emailed Bryan + list about it to see if he can plump it up a bit, but I"m still up to edit it tomorrow if possible
21:38:16 <croberts> 404
21:38:21 <croberts> oh wait me--
21:38:26 * croberts logs in
21:38:35 <stickster> yeah, that should take care of you
21:38:47 <jflory7> I saw that email
21:39:20 <cydrobolt> stickster, yeah
21:39:21 <jflory7> I'll have to abstain from technical review on this one, but I see some small things that could be changed to make it cleaner.
21:39:30 <cydrobolt> we could potentially also enhance the intro a little bit
21:39:32 <stickster> Yeah, I noticed that too
21:39:46 <croberts> I think a better title +1 to the suggestion
21:39:51 <cydrobolt> I would be down to improve the flow
21:39:51 <croberts> its kinda empty
21:39:59 <cydrobolt> YEAH
21:40:00 <cydrobolt> oops
21:40:02 <cydrobolt> caps
21:40:22 <ryanlerch> this one is slated for release next week, right?
21:40:29 <stickster> cydrobolt: Do you want to take a crack at it tonight/tomorrow morning? I won't have time to work on it until around noon EDT or so
21:40:32 <croberts> can we get it fixed before then?
21:40:35 <cydrobolt> stickster, yeah
21:40:37 <jflory7> ryanlerch: Next Wednesday, I beleive.
21:40:46 <cydrobolt> I can improve it a bit later today
21:40:49 <stickster> ryanlerch: correct, 2015-Oct-28 publication
21:41:14 <ryanlerch> croberts: so we need to get the new version of the mag theme done b4 thenuu0o
21:41:14 <stickster> We set these up to be draft-due the week before publication, so we could always take a look at status in this meeting, in time :-)
21:41:20 <ryanlerch> o
21:41:26 <ryanlerch> './/
21:41:26 <stickster> ryanlerch: Yeah, correct
21:41:36 * stickster can't tell if ryanlerch is having modem noise :-D
21:41:43 <ryanlerch> sorry -- baby attacked the keyboard
21:41:46 <ryanlerch> ]
21:41:49 <stickster> hahaha! attack of the baby!
21:41:52 <croberts> lol
21:41:58 <jflory7> :)
21:42:01 <croberts> ryanlerch: is it in the git repo?
21:42:11 <stickster> if you guys haven't seen her, ryanlerch's daughter is Cutest Baby on the Planet. Or at least the Hemisphere.
21:42:12 <ryanlerch> croberts: yeah and released
21:42:26 <cydrobolt> :-)
21:42:30 <croberts> ryanlerch: sounds good ill upload to prod
21:42:41 <stickster> woop woop! croberts++
21:42:41 <zodbot> stickster: Karma for chrisroberts changed to 1 (for the f23 release cycle): https://badges.fedoraproject.org/tags/cookie/any
21:43:12 <stickster> #action croberts upload new theme to production for series handling
21:43:45 <ryanlerch> ill sort out adding the posts to the series taxonomy too
21:43:45 <stickster> #action cydrobolt work on systemd part 2 article today/tomorrow; stickster to edit tomorrow midday EDT
21:45:47 <stickster> OK, looking at drafts... next one isn't due until next week, but it's also systemd
21:46:11 <stickster> I've been filling in "first draft due" fields so we have an easier way to sort through what's on deck
21:46:12 <jflory7> Goal should be to have that draft ready to go by Wednesday.
21:46:25 * jflory7 nods
21:46:47 <stickster> Yeah, it doesn't look like part 3 has anything in it yet
21:47:13 * stickster will hope to hear back from Bryan by tomorrow, and follow up
21:47:26 <jflory7> Sounds like the best plan of action
21:47:54 <stickster> If we don't hear back from Bryan, we'll take part 2 into the finish line, and I may just end up writing part 3
21:48:27 <ryanlerch> sounds like a plan!
21:48:50 <jflory7> stickster++
21:48:52 <zodbot> jflory7: Karma for pfrields changed to 3 (for the f23 release cycle): https://badges.fedoraproject.org/tags/cookie/any
21:49:21 <stickster> yay cookie
21:49:35 <stickster> #topic Pending review
21:49:37 <stickster> #link http://fedoramagazine.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=pending&post_type=post&orderby=date&order=asc
21:49:52 <stickster> So we have two articles here, thanks to jflory7 :-)
21:50:06 <stickster> one is for release day, on upgrading using DNF
21:50:14 <stickster> the other is on ZNC -- jflory7, is that one ready for review?
21:50:26 <jflory7> Both should be 100% feature complete.
21:50:40 <jflory7> Might need a quick edit review for either.
21:50:51 <stickster> Wow, great screenshots jflory7 !
21:51:02 <jflory7> Figured some pictures would help add to that one!
21:51:13 <stickster> jflory7: I can do that in the morning
21:51:46 <jflory7> Sounds good. DNF should be an easy review; I wrote the conclusion part of the ZNC when I was in a hurry, so it might need a little bit of love.
21:51:56 <stickster> #action stickster review ZNC article, mark it ready for publication
21:52:06 <stickster> It will need a graphic but we don't have a set date for it to go up yet
21:52:24 <stickster> Maybe next Thursday?
21:52:30 <jflory7> Sounds like a plan to me!
21:52:42 <ryanlerch> i'll do the grahics
21:53:21 <stickster> #action ryanlerch do graphic for ZNC article
21:53:30 <jflory7> (On a semi-related note, I'm hoping to have the OpenVPN article drafted by our next meeting so we can try to push it out this month instead of November)
21:53:38 <stickster> woop woop
21:53:47 <ryanlerch> jflory7++
21:53:47 <zodbot> ryanlerch: Karma for jflory7 changed to 2 (for the f23 release cycle): https://badges.fedoraproject.org/tags/cookie/any
21:54:10 <stickster> We should keep in mind with release of F23 on Nov 3, we might have ideas for articles as quick followups, and will want to be "light on our feet" then :-)
21:54:21 <jflory7> Agreed to that for sure.
21:54:36 <jflory7> We will likely have our hands full if it's anything like last May!
21:54:44 <stickster> for sure
21:54:56 <stickster> OK, that's all I have in article queue for now
21:55:07 <stickster> #topic All other business (open floor)
21:55:33 <jflory7> I will be getting that email out about the Join Day later tonight.
21:55:43 <ryanlerch> croberts: how did you go with the openid for the comminity blog?
21:55:46 <jflory7> Outside of that, I have nothing else to bring up.
21:55:59 <stickster> thanks jflory7, that's awesoem
21:56:07 <croberts> ryanlerch: xfering it now give me like 5 mins
21:56:09 <ryanlerch> FYI -- here is the blog
21:56:12 <ryanlerch> http://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/
21:56:14 <stickster> awesome even. Who edits the editors...
21:56:23 <croberts> i never made it back in time from the pub last night
21:56:27 <croberts> katello++
21:56:49 <croberts> uploading now though
21:56:55 <jflory7> That looks awesome!!
21:57:01 <ryanlerch> croberts: awesome

21:57:28 <ryanlerch> cookies flying everywhere today
21:57:46 <jflory7> New release cycle cookies! ;)
21:57:52 <linuxmodder> ryanlerch, that is sign of good progress
21:58:35 <ryanlerch> everyone keep an eye out for news posts that we can put on the magazine too
21:58:41 <jflory7> Definitely.
21:58:51 <ryanlerch> the photography workflow one is a good example
21:59:20 <ryanlerch> and the posts dont need to be long or detailed -- just links to items that might be of use to our users
21:59:31 <croberts> ryanlerch: copied it over and same thing :(
21:59:35 <stickster> #info Everyone please keep an eye on news posts that would work for the magazine -- just link wrappers, no need for a full article
21:59:38 <croberts> let me look at logs
21:59:39 <stickster> good advice
21:59:49 * stickster is going to close meeting but let's carry on in #fedora-mktg
21:59:50 <ryanlerch> croberts: :(
22:00:00 <jflory7> Sounds good, stickster
22:00:03 <stickster> Thanks to everyone for coming AND CONTRIBUTING!
22:00:16 <stickster> #endmeeting
