02:06:23 <zodbot> masta: #67 (Fedora booth at USENIX LISA) – FAmNA general trac - https://fedorahosted.org/famna/ticket/67
02:06:56 <kk4ewt> event box and banners arrived on friday
02:07:49 <masta> kk4ewt: thanks for supporting the logistics for that event =)
02:07:57 <masta> much appreciated
02:08:48 <masta> looks like jzb is not here, so we can move on to Open floor
02:09:04 <masta> #topic == Open Floor ===
02:09:39 <sgallagh> Hi, I have a topic for open floor
02:09:40 <masta> kk4ewt: I believe stabymc was in here a week or so ago proposing to purchase more ink pens
02:09:58 <masta> sgallagh: please go on
02:10:22 <sgallagh> As you mentioned, we brought some of the Ambassadors onto the WGs in order to keep everyone in the loop.
02:10:54 <sgallagh> As well as facilitating our "story-telling" about the changes and how we present the new products to the world
02:11:17 * ParadoxGuitarist wanders in.
02:11:36 <sgallagh> I'd like to ask the Ambassadors to start talking about this plan wherever possible, asking people to come back and contribute ideas (not just technical ideas but marketing and use-cases)
02:12:36 <masta> Perhaps in social media, and/or events?
02:12:54 <sgallagh> Anywhere you can think of.
02:12:57 <ParadoxGuitarist> Sorry I'm a bit late, can I get a cliff notes on what the plan is?
02:13:19 <masta> it would be great to increase exposure for Fedora.Next
02:13:21 <sgallagh> This is a big event that's going to affect pretty much everything, so best to get as much input while the snowball is still only a few inches in diameter :)
02:13:38 <sgallagh> *as much input as possible
02:14:24 <masta> sgallagh: speaking for myself, agree 100%
02:14:44 <kk4ewt> sgallagh: and what is this plan?
02:15:16 <sgallagh> kk4ewt: The three products: Fedora Workstation, Fedora Server and Fedora Cloud
02:15:35 <sgallagh> As well as the Base Design and Stacks/Environments that support them
02:16:08 <sgallagh> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora.next
02:17:32 <masta> The times are changing, and we really do need to have talking points on all that is new, and pay attention to new developments ... several balls up in the air right now
02:17:43 <ParadoxGuitarist> Wow
02:19:04 <masta> for example, at LISA we could focus the booth towards more the server offering... other events balance between workstation, cloud, and server....
02:19:18 <masta> focus where appropriate
02:20:22 * sgallagh nods
02:20:26 <masta> however I sense that what sgallagh is proposing is more of a two-way thing... we talk about this with the community and bring back ideas
02:20:41 <sgallagh> That's what I (speaking for Fedora Server) would like to see
02:21:18 <sgallagh> I'm looking for answers to two questions: 1) "What does Fedora do well today that we should be careful not to break?". 2) "What should Fedora be better at?"
02:21:29 <Award3535> Lots of things going on that looks exciting
02:21:32 <sgallagh> Yes, these are highly-subjective and open-ended.
02:22:35 <masta> #info Server WG would like Ambassadors to talk to the community about Fedora.Next
02:22:43 <masta> #link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora.next
02:23:13 <ParadoxGuitarist> What format do you prefer the feedback in?
02:23:20 <masta> #info get ideas about what the community thinks about the new changes, and have constructive talk to bring back to the WG's
02:23:25 <inode0> I wonder if ambassadors/marketing/wg reps should get together and figure out a broad plan for dealing with events as well?
02:23:43 <Award3535> Count me in
02:24:03 <kk4ewt> sgallagh: i hope we dont loose our identity as a good desktop for people to use as that
02:24:21 <sgallagh> kk4ewt: Fedora Workstation should be focusing on that.
02:24:47 <masta> kk4ewt: we also risk losing our identity by being all things to all people.
02:25:30 <kk4ewt> also i would love to see anaconda updated throughout the release so updated DVD media could be produced
02:25:35 <sgallagh> There's a fair amount of discussion over whether Fedora should be focusing on "casual users" vs. "doers"
02:25:44 <sgallagh> ParadoxGuitarist: No specific format; emails to the server@lists.fp.o mailing list would be fine
02:26:22 <ParadoxGuitarist> thanks sgallagh. There's a couple of venues I have locally here in So Cal I can check.
02:26:26 <sgallagh> kk4ewt: That's one thing I'm proposing for the Server (respins of the installer every six months with an 18-month span). We'll see if that survives scrutiny :)
02:27:03 <kk4ewt> sgallagh: i would like the same for desktop-workstation
02:27:13 <dramsey> +1
02:27:23 <masta> yeah, Linus is out in the community and we can count on his ideas trickling into our ears... such as the updated installer image
02:28:04 <sgallagh> I can't promise it more often than six months; I'm trying to tie server releases to the base design, even if it's just by doing update roll-ups on the same schedule
02:28:18 <sgallagh> I need to put those thoughts into a more coherent proposal, but that's a topic for elsewhere.
02:29:20 <kk4ewt> sgallagh: i am a Fedora Unity founder we used to do respins on release untill fighting anaconda was not worth the effort
02:29:35 <masta> yep, and we in the Base design are still getting organized... looking at Server and Workstation to see what we need to provide... so the call for information is a great idea.
02:30:31 <sgallagh> kk4ewt: I think it becomes more achievable if my Server lifecycle proposal goes ahead, but that's probably not a mechanism that will make sense for the Workstation group.
02:30:37 <sgallagh> Or maybe it is, I'm not sure.
02:30:57 <sgallagh> I am chiming in on those discussions, but I don't have a vote on them.
02:32:29 <masta> perhaps if the base design has a faster turn around, say 3 months... the down streams WGs can be more agile or NOT according to their own agenda
02:33:28 <sgallagh> masta: That's probably too aggressive, in my opinion. There's no time to QA anything
02:33:36 <masta> the surface area of the ring-zero should in theory be much easier to manage since alot of the action happens in the WGs
02:34:02 <masta> but yea the rel-eng and QA probably get busy
02:34:14 <sgallagh> masta: I hope that's true, and FESCo voted to give a couple months of down-time to the QE and rel-eng folks to spend automating before we fully ramp-up on F21/Fedora.next
02:34:21 <sgallagh> But that's only going to get us so far
02:36:35 <masta> ok, well we the NA ambassadors will certainly spread the word, and bring back anything the community has to say
02:36:57 <masta> sgallagh: I would suggest we get this request over to EMEA and APAC too
02:36:58 <sgallagh> Very much appreciated. I'll stop derailing your meeting now.
02:37:02 <dramsey> +1
02:37:31 <sgallagh> Certainly, I just happened to be awake and lurking in this channel when the meeting started.
02:37:34 <masta> oh and LATAM
02:37:58 <masta> cool
02:38:13 <masta> so does anybody have anything for Open floor?
02:40:17 <masta> ok then
02:40:29 <masta> thanks for attending this weeks meeting all!
02:40:32 <dramsey> Great meeting. :D
02:40:33 <dramsey> :) masta, thank you for chairing and sending positive Fedora energy to everyone's computers now. :)
02:40:37 <masta> you rock!
