05:03:13 <tagoh> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/I18N/Meetings/2012-04-12
05:03:28 <tagoh> hi, time to have i18n meeting
05:04:03 <epico_laptop> hi
05:04:12 <anish_> hi
05:06:14 <dueno> hi
05:06:18 <dingyichen> hi
05:06:31 <paragan> hi
05:07:26 <tagoh> okay, let's get started.
05:07:39 <tagoh> #topic F17
05:08:45 <tagoh> for schedule updates, as you may know f17 beta has been slipped a week again. current schedule is April 17 for beta and May 7 for final change deadline.
05:09:29 <tagoh> and RC4.1 is available it seems.
05:10:19 <tagoh> also pending packages for f17 seems pushed to stable this morning.
05:11:19 <tagoh> well, any more updates and concerns on f17?
05:13:14 <tagoh> nope?
05:14:52 <tagoh> okay, better move on then.
05:14:59 <tagoh> #topic Input Methods
05:15:30 <tagoh> fujiwarat: do you have any updates for ibus?
05:16:34 <fujiwarat> input-pad's problem is fixed in upstream. Now I'm working in the enhancement of ibus gtk switcher UI and upstreaming ibus xkb.
05:16:54 <tagoh> cool
05:18:47 <tagoh> anything more updates for IM?
05:20:06 <anish_> ibus-hunspell is now available for Nepali language
05:20:15 <tagoh> BTW nice activity on bug fixing for IM last week
05:20:34 <tagoh> anish_: aha. nice
05:20:43 <epico_laptop> pushed new ibus-pinyin bug fix for f17.
05:20:47 <anish_> tagoh, thanks
05:21:16 <tagoh> epico_laptop: cool
05:21:26 <paragan> I have fixed all the reported bugs from i18n test day for m17n keymaps and they are just now pushed to f17 stable repo.
05:21:37 <epico_laptop> tagoh: thanks
05:22:05 <tagoh> paragan: great
05:22:25 <juhp> tagoh: cool
05:23:34 <tagoh> FWIW ibus-unikey is in testing now. so builddep issue should be gone shortly
05:24:05 <tagoh> anything more?
05:25:02 <tagoh> if not, let's move on.
05:25:13 <tagoh> #topic Fonts and Rendering
05:25:37 <juhp> (wow can logout and in again in Desktop Live now)
05:26:40 <tagoh> paragan: how's google-croscore-fonts comparison to alternative fonts going on?
05:28:19 <paragan> I have looked google-crosecore-fonts and liberations fonts
05:28:47 <paragan> I used fontmatrix compare tool and glyphs have some slightly difference when kept on each other
05:29:05 <tagoh> aha
05:29:24 <tagoh> how about coverage?
05:30:21 <paragan> guess almost same
05:31:27 <pravins> hi
05:32:07 <tagoh> hm, so is it better giving higher priority to google-croscore-fonts than existing alternative fonts? what do you think?
05:32:18 <tagoh> maybe good to bring this up on the list though
05:33:28 <paragan> I am not yet concluded anything on it. Will do some more rendering testing.
05:33:38 <tagoh> okay, thanks
05:33:40 <paragan> sure will discuss further on the list
05:33:47 <pravins> tagoh: "The Liberation(tm) Fonts is a font family which aims at metric compatibility with Arial, Times New Roman, and Courier New."
05:34:01 <pravins> so unless someone else claim same thing we can not replace Liberations
05:35:21 <paragan> pravins, yes croscore fonts also claim same thing
05:35:39 <tagoh> pravins: sure. it's just a preference matter. if more people thinks it's better than existing one, no reason to stop moving.
05:36:01 <tagoh> that's why I think it would be good to discuss on the list too.
05:36:11 <juhp> paragan, also would be very interesting comparison of coverage
05:36:12 <pravins> paragan: aha, thats good.
05:36:32 <juhp> s/interesting/interested in/
05:36:43 <paragan> will see if I can draw some table from comparison of both fonts.
05:36:59 <pravins> tagoh: yes agree.
05:37:38 <tagoh> okay, anything more for fonts and rendering?
05:39:17 <pravins> nothing from my side
05:40:13 <tagoh> wondering if I should submit a feature for enabling autohint by default on f18. doing that way may be spotlighted more. dunno
05:41:07 <tagoh> need more feedbacks for that
05:41:48 <pravins> tagoh: as i replied, IMO for properly hinted fonts bytecode interpreter gives better output
05:43:50 <tagoh> pravins: well, the question is how many fonts we have "properly hinted fonts" in Fedora :) if it's less than the amount of the font packages that enabling autohint gives better output, that may be a good idea to enable it by default. this is what I'm thinking of.
05:44:47 <juhp> aha
05:44:47 <pravins> hmm yeah, i have not seen any indic fonts hinted manually yet
05:45:31 <tagoh> i.e. what is better default behavior in fedora.
05:45:57 <pravins> autohint is better anytime
05:46:28 <pravins> in that case properly hinted fonts maintainer need to do corresponding changes in fontconfig file
05:46:49 <tagoh> pravins: exactly
05:47:14 <tagoh> may be good if we can have any test suite to check which one is better though
05:48:29 <pravins> yes
05:49:27 <tagoh> okay, anything more?
05:50:40 <dingyichen> BTW, zanata-util is now in testing, so feel free to test it.
05:51:10 <tagoh> dingyichen: sure. thanks :)
05:51:15 <juhp> dingyichen, how to use it?
05:51:22 <tagoh> #topic Open Floor
05:51:46 <paragan> Can someone please find some time to review my package from their busy schedule? I need package review for bug 807566. It's been reported since last 2 weeks.
05:52:00 <tagoh> .bug 807566
05:52:02 <zodbot> tagoh: Bug 807566 Review Request: gnome-shell-extension-iok - gnome-shell extension for iok application - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807566
05:53:14 <tagoh> would be nice if someone can take it who is familiar with gnome-shell..
05:54:48 <dingyichen> juhp, it has man pages. :-)
05:54:59 <tagoh> juhp: does this help? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730237#c5
05:55:25 <dueno> paragan: wonder if it can be a subpackage of iok? but let me try
05:55:55 <tagoh> dueno: thanks
05:56:15 <dingyichen> juhp, basically it has 2 major program: zanata_zanata_xml_make which generate zanata.xml, and zanata_pom_xml_make which generate pom.xml or insert zanata plugin in existing pom.xml
05:56:56 <juhp> okay
05:57:15 <dingyichen> The 3rd program just shows what locales are supported by specified zanata server.
05:59:18 <tagoh> okay, anything more topics we are missing in the agenda?
06:00:54 <tagoh> if not, stop here then.
06:02:37 <tagoh> okay, thanks everyone for the meeting!
06:02:43 <tagoh> #endmeeting
