19:05:38 <zodbot> Useful Commands: #action #agreed #halp #info #idea #link #topic.
19:05:54 <jforbes> I suppose if no one else will, I will get us started
19:06:06 <jforbes> #Topic Roll Call!
19:06:25 <mdomsch> late but here
19:06:37 <russellb> here
19:07:09 * Southern_Gentlem has an announcement
19:07:14 <jforbes> I haven't been around the last few weeks, so looking for topic suggestions
19:07:21 <rbergeron> WOW, i suck
19:07:26 <rbergeron> sorry guys!
19:07:28 <jforbes> #chair rbergeron
19:07:28 <zodbot> Current chairs: jforbes rbergeron
19:07:35 <rbergeron> thanks jforbes :)
19:07:40 <jforbes> over to you :)
19:07:44 <rbergeron> anyone else around?
19:08:19 <rbergeron> okay, well then.
19:08:24 <rbergeron> I'll just jump into fudcon stuff i guess
19:08:27 <rbergeron> #topic FUDCon
19:08:46 <rbergeron> mdomsch: i know you want to do openstacky things. do you have a plan fo rthat or just searching for interest?
19:08:59 <mdomsch> I was searching for interest; got little response. :-(
19:09:05 <rbergeron> yeah.
19:09:09 <rbergeron> russellb: ?? ^^
19:09:23 <rbergeron> are we just talking about packaging of things, or ... what's the possible plan?
19:09:27 <jforbes> mdomsch: I am sure more people will pipe in when they are there and hear about it
19:09:28 <mdomsch> I need to look at markmc's last "state of openstack" email
19:09:37 <mdomsch> to see what works and what needs work
19:09:43 <russellb> I talked to an openstack guy that works for Rackspace and lives in Blacksburg, he's going to attend and mostlike do a talk (that I'll probably do with him)
19:10:36 <mdomsch> also interested in helping ke4qqq get the rest of cloudstack in, though I'm clueless about java packaging
19:10:41 * rbergeron knows that perhaps we have a few other things that need packaging love / help as well, i don' tknow if we just want to do something more general like that, or .. not really, or if we want to do a "here's how to get it installed" workshop type of thing (that would be beyond just plain old overview)
19:10:57 <Southern_Gentlem> !
19:10:58 * rbergeron is guessing maybe mgoldmann might be able to help out with that java packaging
19:11:01 <rbergeron> Southern_Gentlem: yes
19:11:07 <Southern_Gentlem> *** If you are attending Fudcon Blacksburg Please sign up for wireless access at https://guest.cns.vt.edu/apps/home.action, if you have signed up and unable to attend please contact jbwillia@math.vt.edu
19:11:22 * jforbes is signed up
19:11:36 * russellb expects that 90% of people will not have done it
19:11:37 <russellb> heh
19:11:49 <Southern_Gentlem> for instructions on signing up see the Fudcon Blacksburg wiki page
19:11:51 * mdomsch signed up weeks ago
19:12:16 <Southern_Gentlem> at the moment i have 45 people who have signed up
19:12:24 <jdarcy> Does that include the values for sponsoring department and VT contact?
19:12:49 <kkeithley> it does, I did it already
19:13:27 <Southern_Gentlem> jdarcy, yes it cost us .38 per day each to provide wireless for the attendees
19:13:46 <Southern_Gentlem> us (the sponsoring Dept)
19:13:49 <jdarcy> Wow, that's some tight accounting.
19:14:06 <rbergeron> indeed
19:14:15 <rbergeron> Southern_Gentlem: thanks for the reminderping.
19:14:16 <jdarcy> Maybe I'll just use my MiFi.
19:14:26 <rbergeron> okay, so, anyone else with fudcon plans?
19:14:33 <rbergeron> gholms: do you know if euca has anything planned?
19:14:45 <gholms> I do not.
19:14:53 <Southern_Gentlem> jdarcy, sign up for wireless we dont mind paying(we dont want to overpay)
19:14:57 * gholms attempts to summon obino
19:16:23 <rbergeron> is obino coming?
19:17:02 <rbergeron> #info please sign up for your wireless access for FUDCon.
19:17:06 <rbergeron> #link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Blacksburg_2012#Wireless_Registration
19:17:07 <gholms> No idea :\
19:17:10 <russellb> signed up!
19:17:14 <gholms> I wouldn't wait for him.
19:17:23 <rbergeron> okay, well i know we have you and gregdek and mull so ... i expect something, yo :)
19:17:44 <gregdek> rbergeron: see Planet.
19:17:49 * gholms is distracted while he branches a release
19:17:50 <rbergeron> jdarcy: you just planning on doing a barcamp session or were you planning on doing something beyond that?
19:18:47 <rbergeron> gregdek: i saw. i was thinking more specific to "hack on getting euca packaged (and cloudstack and whateve ris new in openstack if anything)"
19:18:50 <jdarcy> rbergeron: Dunno yet.
19:18:56 <rbergeron> jdarcy: okay
19:19:06 <rbergeron> jdarcy: i'll flog johnmark to make a grand plan
19:19:07 * mdomsch pushes python-passlib, which keystone needs, to stable for f16 and el6
19:19:21 <rbergeron> gregdek: nice post, btw.
19:19:33 <jdarcy> rbergeron: Yeah, I'm happy to let him drive the decisions, I just execute.
19:19:43 <gregdek> rbergeron: thx
19:19:58 <rbergeron> jdarcy: someone's gotta do all the work, right? :)
19:20:10 <jdarcy> rbergeron: Yeah, Kaleb. ;)
19:20:13 <rbergeron> LOL
19:20:20 <kkeithley> I do some work occasionally
19:20:41 <rbergeron> okay, so, do we want to block off time for a openstack thing aside from barcamp, mdomsch, russellb? :D
19:21:01 <rbergeron> or does mdomsch want to assess what theere is to do first
19:21:23 <mdomsch> curious where gluster sits in fedora right now... - ah, completely up-to-date. sweet!
19:21:42 <russellb> between barcamp and hallway discussions ... that's probably good for me. Are there BoF sessions perhaps? could do that to gather interested folks to meet maybe
19:22:11 <kkeithley> mdomsch: I live to do fedora updates ;-)
19:22:11 <russellb> guess that's what hackfests are
19:22:20 <mdomsch> rbergeron, I think you're right there are at least two aspects to any specific cloud tech in progress: packaging/maintainership, and user-focused "how do I install and use this?"
19:22:42 <mdomsch> kkeithley, rock on!
19:22:50 <rbergeron> Also: I found a place called 622 North in Blacksburg that has a bar inside it called "Frank's", and they serve, you know, like... 10 different types of .. franks.
19:22:53 <rbergeron> Hot dogs.
19:23:08 <rbergeron> russellb: yeah, that's sort of hackfesty, basically
19:23:27 <kkeithley> chilidogs?
19:23:40 <rbergeron> mdomsch: so i see packaging/maintainership stuff as being hackfesty, and "how can i do this" (in a hands-on way) as being more workshoppy.
19:23:50 <rbergeron> kkeithley: http://www.622north.com/menus/franks-bar-menu/
19:24:06 <mdomsch> .whoowns cloud-init
19:24:06 <zodbot> mdomsch: gholms
19:24:12 <kkeithley> wow, tablecloths
19:24:22 <mdomsch> wow - how'd zodbot get so fast?
19:24:23 * gholms hides
19:24:26 <rbergeron> i think that's the restaurant, not the bar
19:24:34 <rbergeron> frank's is the bar attached to the restaurant
19:24:51 <rbergeron> mdomsch: do we need a cloud-init hackfest? :)
19:24:51 <kkeithley> Robinson- A grilled frank topped with house made chili and cheddar cheese. An instant Hall of Famer! $6
19:25:40 <gholms> I have no idea how to run a hackfest, but if people are interested in holding one I would be happy.
19:26:12 <jforbes> rbergeron: I would be interested in a cloud-init hackfest, since I need to get the version expiration bit done
19:26:45 <mdomsch> rbergeron, gholms: I haven't used cloud-init myself yet to know, but sounds useful. I do wish there was an easy way to solve the new host init problem too. Dell's openstack dev team has been working on crowbar, but its dependence on being the DHCP/PXE controller makes it tricky to use.
19:27:18 <gholms> New host init problem?
19:27:23 <gholms> Oh, never mind
19:27:46 <mdomsch> there are several parts to a good hackfest. 1) get everyone up to speed; 2) brainstorm needed tasks; 3) divvy up tasks; 4) do it
19:28:03 <rbergeron> okay, so, hackfest on cloud-init. 2 hours? does that seem reasonable?
19:28:05 <mdomsch> 1) and 2) can take a long time w/o preparation ahead of time
19:28:47 <Southern_Gentlem> congrad rbergeron you found a place i didnt know about
19:29:37 <rbergeron> gholms: sunday morning?
19:29:54 <rbergeron> i'll see when folks are around / checking in/ out, i guess.
19:30:26 * gholms checks his calendar
19:31:20 <gholms> I think that would work. cloud-init is made of lots of plugins, so perhaps we could divvy up testing and/or bugfixing.
19:31:55 <gholms> I'd like to talk to someone beforehand to get some idea of how hackfests usually work.
19:31:58 <rbergeron> okay
19:32:08 <gholms> (and to see if my list of stuff to do is reasonable)
19:32:12 <rbergeron> does someone want to give gholms a little rundown outside of the meeting?
19:32:32 <rbergeron> #info cloud-init hackfest planned, likely for sunday morning, possibly 2 hours, by gholms
19:32:46 <jforbes> awesome
19:32:56 <mdomsch> gholms, as a rule, assume network bandwidth = 0 when choosing tasks to tackle
19:33:02 <rbergeron> #info possible openstack hackfest, depending on list of things to do, mdomsch to look at markmc's last status mail (??)
19:33:09 <gholms> That is really hard to do when you're working with EC2.
19:33:33 <rbergeron> #action rbergeron to harass johnmark about any gluster activities
19:33:39 * gholms will ponder some more later
19:33:52 <jforbes> gholms: don't need network to write code, just to test... It can be a decent start
19:36:48 <rbergeron> okay, sooooooooooo
19:36:53 <rbergeron> anyone else with fudcon things?
19:37:04 * rbergeron reminds yet again to ut your stuff on the wiki page(s) as needed, etc.
19:37:12 <rbergeron> coordinate rides if you can, etc etc
19:37:30 <abadger1999> (wireless sign up)
19:38:21 <rbergeron> yeah, we already covered that one :)
19:38:28 <gholms> Anyone happen to be travelling from the airport to the hotel at around 5:30 on Thursday? :)
19:38:28 * rbergeron is about to send a mail to announce-list as well
19:39:43 <rbergeron> gholms: did yo utry the travel planning page yet?
19:39:43 <mull> gholms, I will be driving, just haven't decided what time I'm leaving here yet
19:39:58 <mull> so I _may_ be able to pick you up
19:40:02 <jdarcy> I think I'll be getting a car, BTW.
19:40:12 <rbergeron> I'll have one as well
19:40:30 <russellb> i'm driving there, too
19:40:40 <kkeithley> I've got a car reserved. I'll be there around 11h00 on Friday
19:40:52 <kkeithley> s/there/at the airport/
19:42:40 <mdomsch> markmc's last status note: http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/cloud/2011-December/001039.html
19:43:19 <russellb> main updates since then i think would be ... F17 feature pages started: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/OpenStack_Essex
19:43:21 <rbergeron> mdomsch: i thought he sent one more recently... maybe i'm craaaazay
19:43:25 <russellb> a test day has been reserved
19:43:32 <rbergeron> russellb: you know that deadline for feature pages is quickly approaching :)
19:43:36 <russellb> openstack-nova has been updated with about 50 patches from the upstream stable branch
19:43:41 <russellb> rbergeron: rawr, when
19:44:05 <russellb> so i can make sure we're as close to it as possible
19:44:10 <rbergeron> #info Feature Submission deadline is quickly approaching on 2012-01-24
19:44:15 <mdomsch> rbergeron, not that I can find
19:44:41 <rbergeron> #info Feature Freeze (testable/substantially complete) is 2012-02-07
19:44:55 <rbergeron> mdomsch: it's entirely possible that i'm insane
19:44:57 <rbergeron> :)
19:45:02 <rbergeron> time was in a vacuum over holidays
19:45:44 <rbergeron> mdomsch: ah, i was just thinking of his email about needing karma
19:47:01 <rbergeron> okay.
19:47:05 <rbergeron> #topic Open Floor
19:47:07 <kkeithley> When are they going to branch the fedora-scm repo? I thought that it was going to happen a while ago. Just curious.
19:47:11 * jforbes is still decompressing from that vacuum
19:47:16 * rbergeron looks around
19:48:18 <kkeithley> whoever "they" is. When are they going to branch f17 in the repo?
19:48:31 <rbergeron> oh. that's also 2012-02-07
19:48:42 <kkeithley> also?
19:49:09 <rbergeron> branching and feature freeze are the same date
19:49:21 <kkeithley> okay
19:49:35 <rbergeron> http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Schedule
19:50:09 <rbergeron> policy links and so forth are on there and can probably answer if you have any scary questions :)
19:51:06 <kkeithley> TMI
19:51:17 <gholms> Heh
19:51:28 <rbergeron> :)
19:51:40 <rbergeron> okay, if there's nothing else, i'm gonna close out in a momento.
19:52:00 <gholms> That's like halfway between a moment and a memento.
19:52:27 <kkeithley> there's a meme in memento. Okay, I'll stop being silly now
19:52:34 <mull> mmm, you can always use mo' mentos
19:52:49 * gholms wonders if mizmo is here :P
19:53:07 <gholms> Mo's Mentos
19:53:17 <gholms> Or mmorsi.
19:53:20 <gholms> I'll stop now.
19:54:46 <rbergeron> :)
19:54:56 <rbergeron> okay. I'llllll end this thang, then.
19:54:59 <rbergeron> thanks for coming.
19:55:03 <rbergeron> SEE MANY OF U KIDS NEXT WEEK
19:55:05 <rbergeron> #endmeeting
