20:00:10 <rbergeron> #startmeeting
20:00:10 <zodbot> Meeting started Tue Sep 22 20:00:10 2009 UTC. The chair is rbergeron. Information about MeetBot at http://wiki.debian.org/MeetBot.
20:00:10 <zodbot> Useful Commands: #action #agreed #halp #info #idea #link #topic.
20:00:22 <rbergeron> #topic roll call
20:00:31 <rbergeron> anyone, anyone?
20:00:41 * JonRob
20:00:53 * rbergeron
20:01:22 * stickster
20:01:41 <rbergeron> anyone else? :)
20:02:21 <rbergeron> well. stickster: it's you and me, it appears
20:02:30 <JonRob> and me
20:02:33 <JonRob> :)
20:02:35 <rbergeron> excellent
20:02:37 <stickster> 3... is a magic number
20:02:51 * stickster sorry for distraction, trying to get travel details sorted out for FAD ~30 days out
20:02:58 <rbergeron> #link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_meetings#Agenda
20:03:04 <stickster> Go ahead, shout at me if needed! :-)
20:03:06 <rbergeron> i think that's how i'm doing that.
20:03:09 <rbergeron> yargh!
20:03:10 <rbergeron> okay
20:03:16 <rbergeron> #topic status updates
20:03:36 * rbergeron is cutting and pasting a bit from mchua's email to herself
20:03:48 <rbergeron> Task status: we need to focus on release deliverables for the next 3 weeks, because Beta is coming up - so I made the two high-priority tasks meeting topics all their own:
20:04:01 <rbergeron> and the first one is:
20:04:07 <rbergeron> Brief Ambassadors about F12 talking points
20:04:18 * stickster notes Talking Points are more or less done
20:04:35 <rbergeron> The talking points are done (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_12_Talking_Points) and now it's time to help Ambassadors use them.
20:04:37 <rbergeron> The thread here has some suggestions: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-ambassadors-list/2009-September/msg00193.html - please respond to that message on the Ambassadors list with some material that will help Ambassadors use the talking points (pick your favorite suggestion from the email to put into action, do it, and then use that to respond to David's email).
20:05:09 <rbergeron> so_solid_moo: is that going anywhere with the ambassadors at this point?
20:05:16 <rbergeron> whoa.
20:05:23 <stickster> heh
20:05:26 <so_solid_moo> :)
20:05:27 <stickster> sorry so_solid_moo
20:05:29 * rbergeron not so sure about that
20:05:41 <rbergeron> so, sorry, so solid moo :)
20:06:10 * stickster wants to make a few points about Talking Points if OK
20:06:16 <rbergeron> go ahead
20:07:06 <stickster> 1. Talking points are written in part to help lay audiences and press understand some of the new featuers in Fedora 12. Because some new features require an understanding of underlying architectural stuff (i.e. lots of technodetails), not everything is appropriate for a Talking Point
20:07:41 <stickster> It was good for us to discuss those things and work up the Points through the list and meetings, so the current TP's seem to fit the bill and have been around long enough for people to consider them in that role
20:07:42 <rbergeron> right, otherwise the talking points start to become of war-and-peace length :)
20:07:44 <stickster> yup
20:08:03 <stickster> or more like Release Notes or other release docs that have the ability to address a more technical audience, as well as current Fedora users/developers/admins/etc.
20:08:26 <stickster> 2. As we address some of the materials for Ambassadors, we need to be aware that not every TP is about a feature that any particular Ambassador will find appealing
20:08:53 <stickster> It's not required that an Ambassador refer to all TPs, of course
20:09:18 <stickster> What we're doing hopefully can help them talk to people who might be outside our core contributor profile
20:09:36 <stickster> They are always free to add in other details, or leave out something they think isn't helpful for a particular person or audience.
20:09:52 <ianweller> is this mktg meeting?
20:10:11 <stickster> That's why they're Ambassadors. We trust them to deliver information on message and in a digestible way for their audience :-)
20:10:14 <stickster> ianweller: yes :-)
20:10:18 <stickster> <eof/>
20:10:19 <rbergeron> and an overwhelming list of TPs overwhelms the ambassadors.
20:10:19 * ianweller rolls in
20:10:21 <rbergeron> indeed
20:10:42 <rbergeron> stickster, any action to be taken here :)
20:11:08 <rbergeron> wrt to what you just said
20:12:19 <rbergeron> okay. well then
20:12:41 <rbergeron> i'll just repeat what mchua has in that particular ticket
20:12:48 <rbergeron> #link https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/72
20:12:51 <stickster> rbergeron: I think we'll want to respond to David's and any other questions that come up
20:13:00 <stickster> I can make that response
20:13:31 <rbergeron> #action stickster to respond to david on ambassadors list wrt helping ambassadors use talking points
20:13:39 <stickster> Thanks rbergeron
20:13:51 <rbergeron> #topic Matchmaking for Feature Profile interviews
20:14:00 <rbergeron> #link https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/73
20:14:14 <stickster> rbergeron: I wanted to offer this as far as feature profiles go
20:14:30 <stickster> We could hook "podcast or print interview" to each feature profile
20:14:45 <stickster> And we could probably pick, say, four features from the TPs to treat that way
20:14:50 <stickster> So it's not an overwhelming amount of tasks
20:14:58 <stickster> And if anyone stepped up to do an additional one -- super!
20:15:08 <rbergeron> okay
20:15:49 <rbergeron> maybe half-and half between podcasts / print
20:15:55 <rbergeron> or whatever people are comfortable with
20:16:29 <rbergeron> stickster: do you have any thoughts offhand on pairings?
20:16:42 <rbergeron> or anyone else have thoughts... i love all thoughts.
20:16:53 <stickster> rbergeron: Sorry again for delay
20:16:59 <rbergeron> np :)
20:17:08 <stickster> rbergeron: So I was thinking we could center in on about 4 TPs for this treatment
20:17:11 <rbergeron> i'd have more feedback myself but i'm still kind of new to all this.
20:18:00 <rbergeron> and i'm guessing 2 from the desktop users category, one from the admin category, and one from the dev category would probably round out and please everyone?
20:18:04 <stickster> rbergeron: To me, the first-stringer features are Ogg Theora, NetworkManager improvements, virtualization improvements, and SystemTap
20:18:32 <rbergeron> and the ogg stuff would probably be awesome to do as a podcast :)
20:18:58 <stickster> That doesn't mean the other TPs aren't awesome features -- it's just a way of finding (1) TPs that are wide appeal, (2) a good samplilng, (3) not the same as what we've had before, and (4) something that comes off as heavy-hitting
20:19:03 <stickster> rbergeron: Agreee
20:19:06 <stickster> *Agreed.
20:19:31 <stickster> So what I could suggest is that I could take one of these -- SystemTap for instance
20:19:59 <rbergeron> and find some possible interviewers and try to whittle it down to someone.
20:20:07 <stickster> And I would work up a print and/or podcast interview for it.
20:20:34 <stickster> I don't think the pairing is important unless someone has a particular knowledge about or interest in a specific TP
20:21:11 <stickster> rbergeron: Essentially, we want to do something like this, which was for F11:
20:21:11 <stickster> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:F11_in-depth_features
20:21:23 <rbergeron> #action locate interviewers for print / podcast on ogg, networkmanager improvements, virtualization improvements, systemtap
20:21:41 <stickster> Note that's a category page, which links to individual in-depth feature pages
20:21:52 <rbergeron> right.
20:22:31 <rbergeron> so stickster: are you officially volunteering for systemtap or was that hypothetical :)
20:22:33 <stickster> rbergeron Can you take the action of setting up a category page like that, and some shells for those 4 TPs as in-depth features?
20:22:54 <rbergeron> indeed.
20:22:57 <stickster> rbergeron: I'm officially volunteering -- if no one takes it off my hands before I get it done, I'll take care of it
20:23:34 <rbergeron> #action rbergeron to set up a category page, outlines for 4 aforementioned TPs as in-depth features
20:24:02 <rbergeron> okay. kosher there?
20:24:03 <stickster> Thanks rbergeron!@
20:24:07 <rbergeron> moving on
20:24:13 <rbergeron> #topic Fedora insight status
20:24:29 * stickster fades into background since he's not as up on the FI thing
20:24:33 <rbergeron> To slip or not to slip - that is the question. We need the red blockers cleared in order to get into production; if we don't make it into production before 9/28, we have to wait until the day after Beta release. What do we want to do? (Make a decision and announce it!)
20:24:54 * rbergeron notes link for blockers
20:24:57 <rbergeron> #link https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/query?status=new&status=assigned&status=reopened&component=Fedora+Insight&order=priority
20:25:07 <rbergeron> is anyone present in the FI loop :)
20:25:24 <JonRob> lol, apparently not... ianweller perhaps?
20:25:29 <ianweller> not really
20:25:53 <JonRob> rbergeron: it seems though, that since there's packaging tasks left
20:26:04 <JonRob> as well as all the others,
20:26:12 <JonRob> it might be a push to do it all before 9/28?
20:26:32 * rbergeron notes that it is less than a week
20:26:33 <JonRob> 6 days...
20:26:44 * stickster notes that Mel was going to circle in on this on Saturday, but will probably be needing some help
20:27:12 <rbergeron> not to be totally obvious about my lack of knowing what's going on, but what is the date for Beta release?
20:27:15 <rbergeron> :)
20:27:21 <pcalarco> rbergeron: I had chatted with mchua to do more testing with FWN content as the next step for FWN on FI; I need an admin account on publictest6 for that Mel said
20:27:31 <stickster> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Schedule
20:27:42 <rbergeron> stickster: thank you
20:27:44 <stickster> October 13 is F12 Beta availability
20:28:09 <stickster> pcalarco: Also, I think the publictest instance there is having a problem of some sort
20:28:22 <rbergeron> pcalarco: like an admin-admin account, or a zikula-app-admin account
20:29:09 <pcalarco> rbergeron: not sure.
20:29:20 <stickster> I think the server may be missing php-phpSmarty
20:29:20 <rbergeron> okay.
20:29:43 * stickster shuts up about technical stuff for now.
20:29:57 <pcalarco> rbergeron probably a zikula account with rights for posting and such'
20:29:59 <stickster> September 28 is the freeze date for Infrastructure
20:30:13 <stickster> So that's why Mel notes that deadline in her latest notes
20:30:26 <rbergeron> pcalarco: i think i may still have the permissions to do that. i'll look into it and ping you.
20:30:40 <pcalarco> rbergeron: thx
20:30:56 <rbergeron> if i can't, i'll ping itbegins, mchua, mizmo, someone with the fun permissions.
20:31:14 <rbergeron> #action rbergeron to look into pcalarco getting some zikula admin privs
20:31:25 <rbergeron> and so to make a decision on slipping or not:
20:31:54 <rbergeron> do we want to circle for 24 hrs and see where all these admin-related things are at
20:31:57 * stickster notes that the publictest6 instance is working again, and is sorry for noise earlier.
20:32:11 <rbergeron> packaging, php-stuff stickster mentioned, etc
20:32:23 <stickster> rbergeron: Ignore my previous comment, OBE
20:32:28 <stickster> (Overtaken By Events)
20:32:33 <stickster> :-)
20:32:34 <rbergeron> stickster: noted
20:32:56 <rbergeron> basically we have a bunch of blockers and no owners here :)
20:33:11 <rbergeron> so we should probably ping itbegins on whether or not these things can be fixed.
20:33:25 <rbergeron> and find out in the next day or so
20:33:48 <rbergeron> and i'm going to turn that into an action unless anyone else feels otherwise :)
20:34:18 <stickster> +1
20:34:42 <rbergeron> #action ping itbegins, mchua on specific blockers and what chances they have to be resolved to determine if we go on 9/28, or after beta release, on Fedora Insight
20:35:11 <rbergeron> #topic marketing research
20:35:19 <rbergeron> that's me.
20:36:15 <rbergeron> and there's not a lot of excitement here. :) I'm working on a list of questions to send out to some of the mailing lists we discussed last week, so that I'm not sending them a blank canvas and asking them to make me a picasso.
20:36:24 <rbergeron> I like to have something for people to throw mud at, so to speak.
20:36:37 <stickster> *nod
20:36:48 <rbergeron> and I've been fooling around with limesurvey which seems pretty cool
20:36:55 <rbergeron> (and makes me wonder why nobody did it years ago)
20:37:15 <rbergeron> so hopefully I can get that out this week and a roadmap of sorts as well
20:37:38 * rbergeron notes that it is parent-teacher conference week so the kids get out of school about 26 minutes after i drop them off which is making for serious unproductivity
20:37:46 <rbergeron> so
20:37:58 <rbergeron> #action rbergeron to keep plugging away at mkt research
20:38:07 <stickster> Yikes :-D
20:38:23 <rbergeron> hah
20:38:56 <rbergeron> um. now, i'm not sure about this. on the agenda, there is a little box that says "coming up next" - is that for next week?
20:39:33 <stickster> I think that's the "next deadlines on horizon" from the marketing schedule
20:39:48 <stickster> Finishing in-depth feature profiles should be happening... now, yikes!
20:39:56 <stickster> Press kits starting next week
20:39:56 <rbergeron> well. I'll post that really quick
20:40:00 <rbergeron> #topic coming up next!
20:40:06 <rbergeron> Finish in-depth feature profiles Tue 2009-09-22 Tue 2009-10-06
20:40:06 <rbergeron> Final (Beta) Freeze: Development Code Complete Tue 2009-09-29 Tue 2009-09-29
20:40:07 <rbergeron> Update press kits Tue 2009-09-29 Tue 2009-10-06
20:40:15 * stickster has just emailed around to find a SystemTap victi^Winterviewee
20:40:23 <rbergeron> doh
20:41:18 <rbergeron> stickster: in-depth feature profiles, is that on track
20:41:28 <stickster> Well... "Finish" makes me think we're a little late
20:41:37 <stickster> But it can be done.
20:41:37 <rbergeron> starting to finish :)
20:41:53 * stickster notes that part of the work is simply badgering your interviewee to cut you some time :-)
20:42:05 <stickster> And then editing the podcast as needed
20:42:14 <stickster> rbergeron: I have a "How to make a podcast" wiki page
20:42:35 <stickster> It's a bit too complex for me to be happy about it, but it does work pretty well
20:42:51 <rbergeron> stickster: is that posted somewhere where people can find it :)
20:42:54 <stickster> I've been working on an application to make it a lot easier, but as usual -ENOTIME to work on fun side projects
20:42:57 <stickster> rbergeron: Of course!
20:43:07 <stickster> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_make_a_podcast
20:43:10 <stickster> voila!
20:43:14 <rbergeron> excellent
20:43:35 * stickster advises people to read the page carefully before starting, for best results
20:44:17 * rbergeron makes a note of that
20:44:31 <rbergeron> #topic open floor
20:44:52 <rbergeron> well. i've gone through the agenda that mchua so graciously hooked me up with
20:45:08 * stickster thanks mchua_zzz for providing it
20:45:17 <stickster> and rbergeron, nice job running the meeting too in mel's absence.
20:45:19 <rbergeron> does anyone have any other topics they'd like to address
20:45:30 <stickster> rbergeron: I wanted to note one thing
20:45:34 <stickster> rbergeron: if I may
20:45:37 <rbergeron> stickster: i just have to remember to cut and paste the log information. ;)
20:45:41 <rbergeron> stickster: take it away
20:45:52 <stickster> As always, Red Hat Marketing/PR will be helping a bit during the release cycle with some internal rock-rolling
20:46:30 <stickster> We should have a release video ready for release day
20:46:44 <stickster> I'll be recording that video when I'm down in RDU in October.
20:47:02 <stickster> I am currently working with PR and our Creative people to see if we can have a couple feature videos ready in the weeks leading up to release.
20:47:22 <rbergeron> ...to be featured on FI, i hope :)
20:47:35 <stickster> If it's up, soitanly!
20:48:01 <stickster> Having them done depends, of course, on their request pipeline, but the good news is the raw content is there, because we planned way ahead and I arranged for interviews at some key events over the past few months
20:48:22 <stickster> More news on that as I get it -- I have a meeting scheduled for next Monday and will know more after that hoepfully.
20:48:26 <stickster> <eof/>
20:48:54 <rbergeron> very good. media = goodness
20:49:41 <rbergeron> we do have other outstanding tickets of course I'll just add
20:49:48 <rbergeron> #topic other outstanding tickets
20:49:51 <rbergeron> #link https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/report/3
20:50:03 <rbergeron> if anyone wants to click and comment on anything else that's open right now :)
20:50:34 <rbergeron> and if not, that's okay too. :)
20:51:28 <rbergeron> okay then.
20:51:43 <rbergeron> thanks everyone for coming and your patience with me and your input as always :)
20:51:51 <stickster> rbergeron: Great job!
20:52:02 * rbergeron takes a bow
20:52:19 <rbergeron> yes yes. we'll see after we actually look at the meeting minutes if I remembered to do things :)
20:52:30 <rbergeron> #endmeeting
